In his first post, he said that he believes abusing women is wrong and he doesn’t do it himself. But he wanted to question the men of T-Nation about their opinions of abuse and whether men who hit women are cowards?

Personally, I know that he posts threads like this for two reasons:

  1. Because he’s young and doesn’t know any better. Which is funny to me, so I’ll read it.
  2. Or he’s a major troll who likes posting threads like this to get people talking. That is also funny to me, so I’ll enjoy reading people’s opinions on the issue.

I’m going to say that I think from reading this thread you can see who grew up/went to school/spent significant time in the inner city and who is born and raised in the suburbs. I’m not going to tell all the white nights here not to jump into a situation if that’s what you really want to do; I’m just saying be prepared to either get your own ass beat over it or have the woman who you “saved” testify AGAINST you in court.

I think that if anybody; man or woman, child or elderly, intentionally attacked and harmed a member of my family, I would react with violence. I’m pretty protective of my sister and I think that if another girl seriously hurt her that I would react violently. That may be wrong or right, I’m just saying that’s what probably what would happen.

I think (and hope) that nobody here is advocating legitimately “beating” a woman which I think most people would define as a relatively unprovoked and repeating striking of a woman. It seems the debate is rising out of the standard people apply to self-defense. Obviously, this is the internet and you are going to get the Jedi warriors who are able to disarm armed opponents (and also apparently convince them to not come at you again when you aren’t looking?) without the possibility of striking them. However, at 6’3" 200ish, I’m a fairly big dude and I have met women who I think could probably drop me if they caught me with a lucky punch. If a woman like that came at me (or especially at my sister or mother) with intention to harm, I’m not sure I could just “hold” them down until “help” (not sure who “help” is but alright) came.

I found the Robin Givens clip the OP posted to be interesting. Sadly, I think it is those sorts of video clips that make many men unsympathetic to the domestic abuse problem in this country. First of all, 1 in 4 women are victims of domestic abuse? I have worked and volunteered in youth sports (in a wide variety of programs and sports with different racial, social and economic makeups) so I know a ton of married or living-together couples and, either the wife-beaters don’t have children who play sports (possible, I suppose) or they are doing a very good job of hiding it. Or they have a very loose definition of domestic abuse. Second of all, you have a woman who was generally known to be a gold-digger who married a boxer who had been arrested 38 times as a juvenile and it was pretty well known that the only reason why he wasn’t in jail was because he was an athletic prodigy. Now she wants to come on TV and cry about how she was in this abusive relationship for a year and she couldn’t get out? To me, that is akin to bringing a tiger in your house and complaining when it eats your kids. And it is sad, because I watch that clip and just think, “bullshit” and now I am mentally a little biased so maybe I am less likely to believe or care about a real victim.

a little of subject last summer at a party this girl walks up and punches my friend in the face as hard as she could (for cheating on her friend), he was obviously was pissed but wasnt going to do anything about it and didnt even make a big deal over it, just let it go as another stupid drinking situation. Ive seen this before. I think it depends on the situation. And the woman. My sister is a lttle under a 110 pounds at 5’7 I think. So its safe to say that shes weaker than most full grown, able bodied men. So if a man beat her up, even if she hits first, I would be upset because a hit from her wouldnt do much damage. The only way she could physically hurt a man is if she had some kind of weapon.

Now if its a 300 pound woman lumbering at you, the only way to stop her may be with a closed fist. In ordinary situations, I think the woman should be restrained and the man should leave if possible.

I would also probably heckle the shit out of both of them, the severity of said heckling would depend entirely on how much I’d had to drink.
