Why Train for Strength If Size Is Wanted?

And no, you’re not allowed to say anything that agrees or sounds remotely similar to any of the ‘vets’ on here…
The thing is I can back up every single thing I say. I’m not sure you can say the same. There are subtleties in your posts that show you what the right information is supposed to sound like but dont know exactly why certain things are more important than others. Believe me when I say that I’m not making it up. And I clearly don’t follow you around picking apart your posts or else my post count would be a bit higher. Just let it go.
Here I’m going to have to agree with C_C and BONEZ… Whenever you make a statement like that about 5/3/1 or any other concept/program/methodology it shows absolute ignorance (talking to its_just_me)… How do you expect people to respond? I’d like you to email Jim Wendler and tell him 5/3/1 is a “cookie cutter” program. Please! He’s one of the most respected coaches in the industry. You have done exactly what again…?

I think the personal insults about Brick are out of line. I know the debates got heated and I think its fair to call someone out on their physique if you doubt what they say, but its gone beyond that into insults.

As a boy I loved MMA when it was an underground “human cock fighting” of sorts. Now in this Tapout generation, where every frat boy with money to buy an affliction T and dish $$$ on some lessons is an “MMA fighter” I can barely stand to turn on Spike yet alone order a PPV event…

Digressing I read this thread at first and didn’t even reply because I thought it was one of those “lift heavy to get stronger” obvious, but still need to be stated-statements. Somehow some have managed to argue with training for size when size is the goal…
I hope you are not referring to me… I’ve been passionate about BJJ for years. I’ve done the Worlds twice, Pan Ams once (and getting ready for Pan Ams in April now), numerous NAGA, Grapplers Quest and other tournaments. I’m not a black belt. I’m a purple belt but I still compete at the highest level in my sport. Where do you compete? I don’t spew crap out of my mouth. I’m also passionate about strength training. I’ve never done a powerlifting meet but I intend to. My best lifts at a body weight of 163 are: Bench: 285 (video is on another thread)… Not great by any means but for me PERSONALLY is very good. Squat: 315. Deadlift: 400. Military press: 185. I know it’s totally irrelevant but I feel offended by your post, simply because you have no clue about me. I’ve been doing martial arts/wrestling since i was 13… There are pictures of me on this site. I don’t have the best physique but I’m also not afraid to show it like some here. Now, if this qualifies me in your eyes as being a “Tapout generation, frat boy with money” then fuck yourself. Why don’t you read what I do for a job and tell me somehow I’m a frat boy with money. Plzzz!!! End of rant. Sorry about the hijack…

Agreed. It is one thing to call someone out for making claims that aren’t true or acting like a guru when you look like Dankid, but Brick does NOT look like someone who has never touched a weight before. He isn’t very big, however.

This is not the same as the crap dankid is selling.

I will be the first to say that people who give advice need to have a picture somewhere of either themselves or the many huge people they personally trained to get big.

Brick had pics up long ago.

That way, it is now up to the reader who to listen to.

Didn’t he say he was around 250 at 5’11"? That’s not too shabby.

X, you should just use your mod powers to do something about the little bastard. Lol.

I was ONCE 250 at 5’10" - TWO years ago at my biggest! I was kind of chubby though, but I hold my weight well, which is why when I used to tell people back then, “I gotta cut down a bit” they’d reply, “Why? You don’t look fat.”

I did NOT take pics from back then. When people ask me, “Why didn’t you take pics?” my HONEST answer is, “I DON’T KNOW”. If people on here DON’T BELIEVE what my stats were and what numbers I put, that’s fine with me. This is just a forum where I talk about hobbies that I had a deep involvement in at one time.

And what’s wrong if I still follow bodybuilding and powerlifting? If it actually took REAL baseball players and basketball and football players to be fans of the sports, we wouldn’t have MILLIONAIRE ball players! Perhaps if there were millions more ORDINARY JOE’S like me who love looking at and reading up on and viewing cult sports like I do–bodybuilding, powerlifting, O-lifting–we’d have a LOT MORE well-off and professional bodybuilders, not guys that have to get lucky enough to get sponsors in order to sustain themselves or resort to stuff I don’t want to talk about on here (eg, sex work).

I’m 220# now, fairly lean, with much less weight training than I used to.

There are factors and desires I have and developed in life that conflict with a huge investment in bodybuilding requirements. Is that bad? I once wanted to take even further than I did, perhaps entering a powerlifting or bodybuilding show. But I ADMIT, other things in life-things I’ve explained before-- conflicted with that aspiration.

What does this mean? That I can’t still attend bodybuilding shows? Read bodybuilding mags? Can’t socialize with my bodybuilding buddies anymore or be part of an online forum about something I still have love and total respect for? I can’t share some the knowledge and thoughts on nutrition and exercise that I’ve accrued personally, professionally, and academically?

Back to the main subject of this post.
Train for Size by Following the Principles for Hypertorphy. Let that be the sole focus of your current size workout program and you’ll make gains. Eventually you will need to periodize your program by incorporating strength phases which in turn will help you lift more weight when you go back to hypertrophy and make more gains in size.

I used to only due olympic lifting for track and field. Now that i’m a working stiff I had to start training differnetly. I started with a hypertrophy program, made good gains then started to plateau, did a strength phase got stronger on it, went back to hypertrophy and the gains started going again… well my calves are still on vacation but the rest of me body is growing.

It’s illegal to claim rights to my pics on FB, but you can have fun through PMs on here, through FB and private email with pics of me, none of which depict a “Papa Smurf” look-alike. Have at it. You can only do it for a few days because soon I’ll be adjusting my FB settings so that I don’t have jerkoffs defaming me with false statements.
Actually, it’s entirely legal. And remember, you started the personal attacks by calling any and everyone who disagreed with you “jagoffs”.

I was going to take the high road with this one but since you seem intent on daring me to post something, have at it.

So then I had that wrong then. You’re allowed to. I really don’t give a flying fuck that you post a picture of me.

I’m done speaking to you. You have a problem with me. It’s just unfortunate that you don’t live in the five boroughs over here.

And you actually think I give a shit about a picture in which I’m smooth and by that time, gave up the goal of being a bodybuilder. I really don’t!

Since TD and Purple have already thoroughly vetted Dankid, here’s Brick in a picture posted 2 years ago, when he claims he was “at his peak”.

You guys have fun, I’m done.

Three ladies around him. Yeah, how embarrassing.

So… is that pic at 250, or is it current?

Lol @ this thread such childish shit…

I don’t get this one. It’s impossible to tell exactly how big he is in that picture. He’s certainly not small, though. Plus the chicks like him.

Again, I ask, why the hatred for Brick? Is it really just over his posts, that were so bad you pulled FB pics, or is there something else? Also, SH, I assume your size dwarfs Brick’s?

I didn’t realize getting your picture taken with a couple of 6’s had anything to do with knowledge of bodybuilding. I’ll have to keep that in mind.
That’s not the point. Has C_C posted pics? Unless you are going to show the same amount of gusto for him as well, then you have to admit that this is about more than him not being big enough for you to take seriously.

It is one thing to post LOGICAL information that actually follows what experienced larger trainers know to be the case, and quite another to post crap just to antagonize people who have made more progress.

Brick does the former.

I thought you were done?

It had damn sure better after all of this.

I make no claims of ever being a bodybuilder, and I therefor avoid posting advice on anything but the most common sense issues pertaining to bodybuilding. I do, however, have recent pictures of myself posted in the 18" arms thread as well as pictures in various places around this site. Some are several years old of me when I started lifting and others are more recent. I am currently 210 and 15% bf at a height of 5’6".

I’ve already explained my issues with Brick several times in this thread.
