Why Do You Hate Crossfit?
Mettahl wrote:
MOST people don’t dislike Crossfit for the workouts. Their workouts that have been around for decades, so Crossfit really isn’t anything new anyways. Just a fancy name for circuit training.

Most people hate Crossfit because of people like “mmllcc.” People like this, who have some super-heightened sense of importance for no reason at all. They think that their fitness goals are more important than everyone else’s, so they don’t hesitate to scoff at someone doing low rep work.

I work out at one of those “fitness super centers” where they don’t allow chalk, oly lifts (which is why you have to go at night if you want to do those, so there’s no one to catch you), and tends to be filled with circuit guys. I have no problem with these people’s way of training, because they have their own goals. What I do have a problem with is their attitude. People like “mmllcc” are so fucking stuck on themselves and everything that THEY do, and everything that THEY like, that everyone else’s views are irrelevant and stupid.

I kind of want to shit on this guy’s face. Not because he’s a crossfitter, but because he acts like one.
You obviously have a reading comprehension problem…I don’t have a problem with anyone’s personal goals. My whole original comment was to show how people that whine about CFr’s are the pot that calls the kettle black. You help demonstrate this…thanks dumbass.

mmllcc why don’t you post a pic for us so we can see how “huge” you are.

It’s hilarious that you think crossfit workouts are superior to bodybuilding workouts for stimulating hypertrophy.

But…of course you won’t post a picture, they never do.

Crossfit Football ftw.

Everyone that complains on here just sounds like a pansy.

“Oh you might get hurt” Then don’t fucking do it!

“Glassman is an asshole” then don’t fucking talk to him!

DebraD, and the squabble about them worrying about bodyfat? EVERYONE cares about appearance, in one way or another they do. Some people believe train for performance and aesthetic will follow, performance may be the priority, but they care.

Everyone just put on your big boy pants and stop bitching. I for one don’t like the attitude either, so I don’t subscribe, but I still like the workouts and do them on my own. But the fighting that goes on about this topic is ridiculous.

People have done the workouts with good results, face that fact and co-exist.

I like it because the Marine Corps likes it. Moreover, I work some of the different routines in as HIIT sessions and it is very effective at metabolic conditioning. Different strokes for different folks.

False. Your original comment competely danced around the only issue with crossfitters (the massive “my way is better than yours” attitude), and named a bunch of self-constructed reasons to try to make it seem like everyone else was in the wrong. Your last two sentences were pretty irrellevant , because you’re comparing two different things: 1. the person who bashes others because of their goals and training methods (a terrible reason to bash someone), which describes the majority of the crossfitters that I’ve ever met (I’ll even give CFers the benefit of the doubt and say that I just happen to run into some oddly self-important CFers), and 2. the person who bashes others, because they act like those in number one. In this case, your metaphor doesn’t work. Way to be wrong again.

Like I said, I don’t have issues with people or how they train. As long as they’re cool with everyone else, then they’re okay. It’s the holier than thou attitude that ruins it.

Which isn’t that different from what I said…

Anyway, I’m one of the few here that likes crossfit and does some of the WOD regularly so I’m not really complaining about it. In fact, I credit crossfit, their website and the many videos of women lifting for getting me to move weights to begin with–so definitely no complaints here.

But it’s not for hypertrophy, it’s for fitness. But if you are starting with very little then of course there will be some muscle gain.

We don’t have to face that fact. They’ll be the first one dancing around you while wearing a sleevelss shirt with a puking clown on it while you walk to the gym telling you all about how awesome their results are.

Good homo. Now leave me alone and go crank off to Frank or Charlene or whatever the fuck the workouts are called.

A comment, in response to a link to “The Four Pillars of Strength Training” on the Crossfit football site:

“…you guys are so confused. citing an article by dan john, whom glassman has both scorned and banned. don’t overlook the bit in john’s article about stupid programming. see if you can imagine what he might be referring to. thanks for the unintentional comedy.”

I’m pretty sure that in one of the Q&A vids Glassman says that the workout is pointless if the at the end of a workout your form remains good, he says your form should be crap towards the end, and says you cannot make gains without seriously fucking up. Backs it up by saying you can’t drive fast until you have a serious car crash.

Just sounds like a path to injury to me. Still, great program for females.

The xfit women are hot,
AND they like to lift weights,
The xfit guys are pussies…

where do I sign up?

the one thing i think is cool about CF ( dont flame me ) is that a guy i know who’s done it for some time, weighs like 140 but can deadlift 315 like its a stick now.

Number one reason why I and most people don’t post pics is because we can’t be bothered. An internet chat room argument is hardly worth much more time than this. The other reason is that we realize people like yourself probably get off to such pictures and we neither want to be party to your reprobate habits nor the object of them. Men that ask to see the naked bodies of other men, unless they are doctors, are a wee bit on the gay side.

And I have said nothing about the inadequacy of the Muscle and Fitness BB workouts that almost every author on this site has not said about them at one time or another. So take it up with them.

Riiiigghhhtttt. All that time to post, but doesn’t want to put a picture up. Probably because his Crossfit body is just too impressive.

Still a douchebag. And a crossfit douchebag at that, which is a million times worse than your standard douchebag.

Take this for what its worth, but i have a friend who is a competitive powerlifter. That is what he trains for, and is the limit of his training.

His first time trying crossfit, he did a sub 4 minute fran. He said it was because kipping pull-ups are easy, and thrusters are easy cuz 95lb doesn’t feel like shit.

I think the most successful athletes at the crossfit games are those that have build up a level of strength and fitness over the years using strength based training.

This is truth. For the most part all the top guys or girls in CF were collegiate wrestlers/sprinters/softball players/football players etc. There is alot of discussion, even within CF, whether the totally untrained should even consider doing the WOD. A certain base of strength is required to do unscaled workouts, which is why Rippetoe’s Starting Strength is highly suggested to be done before even trying a scaled down WOD.

Some suggest being able to do a parallette hand stand pushup, free standing hand stand, strict muscle up, 20 dead hang pullups etc. before looking at the WODs.

What most schmucks do though, is come in off the street because they saw Chris Spealler or OPT do a sub 2 minute Fran on YouTube, and think 'O man, this is the only training I’ll ever need!" when in fact those guys were highly trained athletes before starting the CF training. Those aforementioned schmucks are the goombas who make all Crossfitters look like d bags.

So suffice it to say, there are assholes in any training doctrine, Crossfit is GPP and nothing more, and there’s nothing quite like a good snatch.

Their price is like $100-$200 per month… crazy.
All their exercises are well-known old exercises, like in gymnastics conditioning, etc.
Any of them one can be done on your own, for free.
As to motivation… having to work out in a crowd is a demotivator for me, just kills concentration.

I prefer to work with weights, not just throw a kettle bell around forever.
Considering what most people on this forum are going for (size, strength, etc.), CF wouldn’t be too tempting. It seems like an average guys way of staying in shape. (not saying CF is easy)

I will say I enjoy looking at the nicely developed ass of the woman trainer at the local CrossFit gym. However, while the guys may be “in shape”, they don’t look built at all.

I’m dabbling in CrossFit for the next month just to try something different. I’ll do a couple lifts for strength and then either do the WOD or a circuit I learned at their gym. Today’s WOD is really going to suck.
