There is no need to spend a penny for a CDL these are not large trucks. And a starting pay for a young person of $12.00 per hour for an unskilled job is not an unfair wage. With overtime (and there is a lot of that) a driver can make 30-k to 35-k per year. Not a lot of money but then again for someone’s first job not bad. It seems though that many young people want to start out at the top, not all but many. And if they can make close to this wage on unemployment they usually either don’t come in, or we never hear from them after the interview.

Now tell me Pitt what’s wrong with an 18-22 year old starting out making the kind of money that I pay for that one position? If they want to improve they have that opportunity through training or more school, or switching jobs which is a possibility once they have shown a good work ethic and done well in the position that they’re in.

No, it’s more than just a comma. Your sentence structure is incoherent. Just stop and take a minute to read your post before you hit the send button that should solve the problem.

This in a nutshell.

Not enough time in the lead up to Christmas (and having to work it) to delve deep into this with you.

But why make this kind of a blanket statement? I do not hate children, it is one of the best parts of what I do.
I don’t think the rank and file workers hate anyone, but their Union reps are more like Mafia leaders.

When we can’t fire a teacher who fed kids cookies covered with his semen, and filmed roaches crawling all over his students, there is a huge problem.
Fortunately only about 17% of US workers are in a union.

As for union bosses many are no more than organized thugs. They stop short of sticking a gun in your ribs. But they certainly tell you what to do. I used to be in a union years ago and I hated it!
Chevron announced that 800 jobs left California for Texas, with more jobs to flee next year.

It seems the friendlier business climate and taxation is responsible. Governor Brown said he would audit them, Chevron said fuck you to him

Tirib, I was up in the D last night for the Wings game, and I have to tell ya, I’m constantly blown away and shocked at how that city resembles a third world country in parts. Amazing and sad.

Now I hear that an EFM was just appointed by D’bag Snyder to “fix” the city; LOL…good luck to all the Detroiters, they’re gonna need it.

It is like New Orleans after Katrina, but with no Hurricane. That is a really sad video.

Although I feel the need to add, that Bookies Bar and Grill, was fantastic. Great food, good prices on drinks, and free shuttle service to and from games. If I hadn’t had my 12 year old son with me, that would’ve turned into an overnighter for me and the other guys. lol

Always a good time when we’re in Detroit.

Zero exaggeration in that video. Like I said to Tirib, I was witness to that just last night. Sad indeed, and almost surreal that this is what Detroit has come to. Fire and police services have been DECIMATED in that city. FD goes from house fire to house fire to house fire on most shifts according to some of my brothers from there.

Like you said, really sad.

What happened there? Too much being paid out and no tax dollars coming in? is it the typical Welfare Nanny State?

In a couple minutes I’m going to be headed past some of those very neighborhoods on my way to church. Another sad thing is all the missing people who turn up every so often in a pile of junk or in a field or a burned out building. We have hundreds of missing persons that the authorities figure are dead and dumped around the ruins somewhere making finding them a matter of accident.

Sparky we’re gonna have to bump into each other for a handshake one of these times you’re over here.

The problems with that city have been, and continue to be, so multi-faceted, that it would be a crime of intellectual laziness/dishonesty to pin it all on just one of those facets. Your comment is correct I believe, however it is extremely general. Yes, on the top of it, what you said is true; too much going out and not enough coming in, but what were the REAL catalysts for that?. My hope is that the city gets leadership that can figure that out, meet those challenges, and bring that city back from the depth of its current misery.

I know this however, without a core of civic function that is effective, then that city will not rise from the dead. Public safety needs to be addressed by whomever comes in as a first priority IMHO, but like I said, the job overall will be monumental.

This, however, I know for sure; nobody wants to raise their children or bring their business to a city that can’t enforce it’s own laws, put out it’s fires, maintain their roads and water systems, educate their children well, and generally provide for the conditions that make people want to live and invest there. Right now, Detroit is BAD investment, for both families AND business.

Twenty years from now, I would LOVE to be reading an article on how Detroit was reborn.

That would be great; one of these days we’ll have to make that happen.

Fixed it for ya

Detroit looks like a paradise! Just look at how one building looks no nicer or worse than the next! THAT’S THE AMERICAN DREAM!

One was a natural disaster the other caused by liberals not knowing what they were doing and did it to themselves. As bigflamer said earlier there is more to this than just liberals being dumbasses, but they had a lot to do with it. I hope they can turn the city around, but it is going to be hard.

It is caused because there are no jobs for the masses and the jobs that are there are minimum wage .There is no tax base for infrastructure

The reasons for the decimation of high paying jobs are policies that Ronald Wilson Reagan endorsed . Specifically opening the door to steel imports .

Look at the tractor trailers in Michigan the trailers have 10 axles and more . Do you think they were meant to haul heavy loads ? Iron Engine Blocks and Steel period.

I just read through this thread again and feel the need to ask why Zeb’s fairness to his employees was under question? Why did Zeb need to list the pay and benefits he provides his employees in order to be seen as a fair employer?

Is the fact that people voluntarily work for him not enough to make that obvious?

If that’s not enough, then how could it possibly be argued that his employees deserve more?

If someone can’t even decide for himself whether or not he’s being treated fairly by him employer, then how can he possibly be expected to perform the duties of his job?

After checking, the city’s government is almost 90% Democrat. With that supermajority should they not be able to fix this problem fairly quickly?

Maybe Zepplin can educate them on using a stimulus to fix the problem.

And if the problem was steel imports…would the rest of the rust belt not look like Detroit? Pittsburg does not seem to be 3rd world.

It was under question because he pays his truck drivers $10 an hour a CDL can cost $6000
