You can lift explosively, like you’re describing, but it’s not an explosive movement like a jump or Olympic lift.
Think of it like this, you can squat a slow rep but have you ever tried to jump or power clean slowly? It just wouldn’t work.

Oh I see. That makes sense.
Maybe that’s something I should put in my program. Only thing is I suck at power cleans and they make my wrist and elbows hurt pretty bad that’s why I quit doing them. I used to do box jumps when I was running wendler 3 day beyond 531 1.1 1.2 1.3 program. Went great until I got extremely sick 3/4 through the program.
I’m talking about the speed of the movement. If you want your training to transfer to improved performance such as being faster or jumping higher then you have actually move fast. I like to superset squats with body weight jump squats.
I think you might want to try spacing out your workouts more.
A trainee who is relatively well conditioned and is going to true failure should perform high intensity strength training once every seven days. There are exceptions: a person who is not capable initially of performing enough mechanical/metabolic work to make that seven-day recovery a requisite may initially benefit from slightly more frequent training. Each time you train, you should see increases in strength and endurance.

Ya I think I might have to train less or only go heavy once every 6 to 7 days and keep the other very light or not train at all.
For example I shouldn’t squat heavy Monday and then deadlift heavy Thursday. I think that is part of the problem right now.
I’ve actually been in the same boat as you since about your age, and your pics look just about exactly like I did at the same point in time.
Eat, Look into CAT style training (Hatfield), and avoid max effort but for re-evaluating maxes maybe every six months or so.
By eat, I mean that it took me about 5-6K/day to go from 155 to 165 over the course of several years. Not everything can be great (clean) food to hit that type of caloric intake. And yes, it gets expensive.
