I AM a happy man.
Dear ol’ bosom buddy Lanky done sent me a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel bourbon
and
five fine cigars
all of it packed
in a Playboy centerfold.
Could a guy have it any better than me? Not a chance!
I’m very thankful.
He’s a good egg
Glad the package got there safely, Push! Truth be told, a couple trips to the local wine and spirits shop did not yield the bottle I wanted to send you, so the FR SB was kind of a consolation prize. But I also bought a bottle for myself and it’s not bad, so hopefully you enjoy.
just a note.
two 20’ tanks came in yesterday each with 48000+lbs of “Bourbon/Whiskey 90-120 proof.” one was from Jack Daniels and the other Jim Beam. Jack to Germany and Jim to Japan.
stuck a “Release to Nards” note on the Jim.
Push, you bastard, I said no need to reciprocate!
Pretty excited to try this. I’m surprised they can label it bourbon considering its origin.
This just moved to the top of my “next to open” list, thanks Push!
Fuck you all I am on the wagon until May.

Im on day 4
But honestly I needed the break and cut/detox myself.
Im down 12 pounds in 3 days sucks balls
Depends. Normally I like single malt whisky (note the spelling means it is from Scotland, whereas whiskey is from Ireland, seriously). There are any number of them I enjoy but probably my most recent favorite is this gem from Glengoyne. Can’t get it any place but the distillery though.
Otherwise I tend to make my own. I just finished off a currant sherry that was to die for and once I save up enough I’ll make another maple syrup and blueberry mead. The mead is one of those you just can’t seem to quit drinking but the syrup costs a fortune. Been vinting for 35 years and have gotten pretty darned good at it.

I haven’t tried that stuff yet so tell me what you think. My main goal was to get you a Montana spirit and hopefully a decent one.

It’s funny, earlier in the thread I mentioned I didn’t see the bottle I really wanted to get you after a couple trips to the store. I had this PA Rye whiskey in mind:

On the other hand, I do still have your address, so you never know.

Quitters.
Push - I tried Big Horn and you should pick yourself up a bottle, it’s really good! It’s very unique, it’s got the sweetness of bourbon but the kick of a good Irish Whiskey. My palate isn’t super refined but that is the best way I can describe it, and I’d recommend you pick some up.
In all honesty, the flavor is good enough to warrant a higher proof. Sometimes the not so great whiskies get a bit watered down to hide the fact that they are not so great, I don’t think that’s the case here.

I don’t understand that either. I’ve seen it many times with whiskies from several states.

So Big Horn came from Willie’s Distillery, and I decided to ask why that was. I received an email, presumably from Willie himself:

Andy-
Glad you enjoyed our Bighorn Bourbon and got to try it!
Only Kentucky Bourbon can be made in Kentucky. Bourbon is America’s whiskey and can only be made in the U.S. It can be made in Alaska, Hawaii, Montana etc.
Strict Federal guidelines on how it’s made (grain bill, distilling process, barreling etc).
Scotch can only be made in Scotland, Canadian Whiskey can only be made in Canada, Tequilla can only be made in Mexico, Tennessee Whiskey can only be made in Tennessee etc.
In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed an Act of Congress to designate Bourbon as The Official Spirit of America.
Hope you continue to enjoy and spread the word!
Cheers!
So it appears each state can have its own bourbon so long as it’s prefaced with the state in which it is distilled. You learn something new every day.

I was waiting for that…lol… Trust me I’ll be back!!
Well, the weekend is here and so is Jameson’s. Enjoy your weekend T-Nation.
I have 3 new ones to try when I get home next week for a brief leave period - Knob Creek 9yo, Bulleit Rye, and Noah’s Mill.
