Whiskey Advocate’s Craft Whiskey of the Year 2013
“Straightforward rye crisps out of the glass in no-nonsense style; dry grain, sweet grass, and light but insistent anise almost wholly drown out the barrel character. It?s backed up on the palate, where you?ll get more rye, some tarragon and dry mint spice, and then some oak in the warming finish. That light barrel character is hardly surprising in a young rye, and we?re not going to see much but young whiskey out of craft distillers for a while yet. So high marks to Few Spirits for making a very good young rye, one I?ve been using as a benchmark ever since I tasted it.” - Lew Bryson, Whiskey Advocate

I like Bourbon but the sweetness of it turns me away a little. CHEERS and Happy Holidays!

Straight rye whiskey gives you the “pop” of bourbon without the sweet taste, or at least with it noticeably diminished.

Tried rye for the first time recently and am falling in love with it. I started as just a scotch only person but am finding some bourbons I like, but rye whiskey is really catching my attention.
If you can find it, give Whistlepig a try. It’s one of only a few 100% ryes on the market and it really distinguishes itself from bourbon. Highly recommended (I think I mentioned this a few pages back, so sorry for the repetition).
Edit - And I’ll hop on board with the “whiskey is better enjoyed warm” train.
Grabbed a bottle of WhistlePig on the way to NH for a ski trip. Really liked it. It will become a regular in the collection.
Anyone had angel’s envy rye? It tastes like marshmallows or almost egg nog. I really like it, it’s finished in Jamaican rum barrels, a little pricey at 70 bucks but the cask strength is like 180 dollars and that one is finished in port wine barrels.
Talisker, 18 yrs is obv a slightly nicer drink but I have 2 bottles of 10 year old in my house just now, brilliant stuff. For a bottle that’s not too expensive it tastes beautiful

What’s your best cheap whiskey? Say under $25.
I have to go with the Old Weller 107. Just bought another bottle today. $22.90. 53.5% ABV. As good or better as $50 a bottle stuff IMHO.
Bowmore legends about the same price. IMO a decent Scotch. 4 more days and I’m gonna be drinking some Laphroaig. Took a month off the sauce. I do that every once in a while just to prove I can.
