KFB Whiskey

Has anybody tried this stuff? I just saw it at my Trader Joe’s for $5.99 and was tempted to try it but honestly I’m too scared to try 5.99 whiskey without hearing from someone else first.

For those who happen to be “whiskey young” and are learning the impact this glorious liquid could have on your character and lifestyle, the following is a sixty-two year old comment that will always apply:

WHISKEY

In 1952, Armon M. Sweat, Jr., a member of the Texas House of Representatives, was asked about his position on whiskey. What follows is his exact answer (taken from the Political Archives of Texas):

"If you mean whiskey, the devil’s brew, the poison scourge, the bloody
monster that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home,
creates misery and poverty, yea, literally takes the bread from the mouths
of little children; if you mean that evil drink that topples Christian men and
women from the pinnacles of righteous and gracious living into the
bottomless pit of degradation, shame, despair, helplessness, and
hopelessness, then, my friend, I am opposed to it with every fiber of my being.

However, if by whiskey you mean the lubricant of conversation, the
philosophic juice, the elixir of life, the liquid that is consumed
when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and the
warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas
cheer, the stimulating sip that puts a little spring in the step of an
elderly gentleman on a frosty morning; if you mean that drink that
enables man to magnify his joy, and to forget life’s great tragedies and
heartbreaks and sorrow; if you mean that drink the sale of which
pours into Texas treasuries untold millions of dollars each year, that
provides tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our
deaf, our dumb, our pitifully aged and infirm, to build the finest
highways, hospitals, universities, and community colleges in this nation,
then my friend, I am absolutely, unequivocally in favor of it.

This is my position, and as always, I refuse to compromise on matters of
principle."
I know I’m late but I love this post. Thank you. Another reason for me to go to Texas when I retire.

Hey, I do have a cousin though who I won a bottle of Buffalo Trace from on the Super Bowl. It should arrive any day now.

I drink it straight. I like it a little cooler than room temperature so I keep it in the basement. If I had one of those wine cabinet things I would keep it in there 'cause I think that would probably be about the right temp for me.

Guys, I jumped on a grenade for you and bought this stuff. Just took my second sip and it’s not bad. I’d say it’s basically flat with nothing particularly good or bad standing out. It’s like someone intended to make the most neutral whisky they could possibly come up with.

Typically I like a whisky they 1st time I have it. I tend to start noticing things I don’t like the 2nd or third time so I reserve the right to change my mind. It’s definitely not raspy like typical cheap whiskey.

Home Depot and Lowes sell a small fridge for your whisky and wine, etc. On the southwest central coastline of Florida these small fridges will go on sale for less than $70.

FWIW, I like my whiskey warm. I doubt I’ll ever drink it on the rocks again.

In fact, I keep my house around the 60 - 62F degree mark in the winter (I’m hot blooded, check it and see, hot blooded, got a fever of 103) and THAT is a little too cool for my whiskey.

I think you get more flavor with a warmer temp, just like with beer.

(C’mon baby, do you do more than dance?)
I pour a glass and stick it right underneath a lamp. And when I say lamp I don’t mean a mercury filled, hippy loving CFL, or an overpriced LED. I mean a good old heat generating incandescent.

If I had to guess I’d say I drink it at 75-80 degrees.

Probably the best way to warm it would be put it in a warm water bath. Or, maybe put hot water in a glass for a few minutes, pour the water out and add the whiskey and let it sit for a few minutes.

How do you do it, Push?

LOL Okay, now we know Tedro is an alternate account for Pushharder.

I missed this comment about the beer earlier. As you know I can’t drink beer but before I developed an allergy to it I absolutely hated it warm. I don’t see how the Germans, and now you, can drink it that way. I miss Ice Cold Beer.

Straight rye whiskey gives you the “pop” of bourbon without the sweet taste, or at least with it noticeably diminished.
Tried rye for the first time recently and am falling in love with it. I started as just a scotch only person but am finding some bourbons I like, but rye whiskey is really catching my attention.

If you can find it, give Whistlepig a try. It’s one of only a few 100% ryes on the market and it really distinguishes itself from bourbon. Highly recommended (I think I mentioned this a few pages back, so sorry for the repetition).

Edit - And I’ll hop on board with the “whiskey is better enjoyed warm” train.

You may like High West’s Double Rye. I mostly drink SM Scotch (Lagavulin) but recently started on American Bourbon and Rye. Best drink to make with Rye is a Sazerac hand’s down! Also tried this Gin last week at the St. George Distillery. Its a rye instead of a neutral grain. As I don’t usually like gin, I was pleasantly surprised by it and it was quite good.
