Shucks it looks like you’ve already polished off half a bottle.
A friend brought it to a party last night, it was half gone already and we finished the rest. May that bottle RIP.

It’s very good, among the best I’ve had and definitely the best finish I’ve had.

Also drinking knob creek single barrel last night. Push, you’d be proud. 120 proof and no splash of water necessary. :-)
now ya only gotta wait till oct/nov to try to get a bottle of Pappy. if you get a chance try the Four Roses small batch. I think you’ll be very happy.
I’ve been on the lookout and had family members in several states on the lookout for each of the last 3 fall seasons! Being that the state runs all liquor stores in PA, I probably won’t be the one to find it but I’m still hopeful!

I’ve had a bottle of FR Small Batch. Good, definitely worth the $30ish price tag if I remember, but not spectacular. I haven’t been able to get my hands on FR Limited Edition Small Batch or FR Limited Edition Single Barrel, which are both supposed to be even better, so I’m still looking out for those as well!

What is everyone drinking for the game? I’ve got a few too many open bottles so I won’t be cracking anything special, but will probably polish off the bottle of Blanton’s I have open.

Not sure what shipping would be, but I’d buy some bottles here and ship to you if it made it easier for ya. I wouldn’t want location to stifle anyone from drinking their whiskey!

I will take you up on that. Montana has got to be a long ways from where you are so your feelings of philanthropy can still be realized.

Thank you for your support.
Not sure how I missed this before - Push, you have no issues getting Booker’s! That being said, I have a nice little care package I’d send you if I ever got a hold of your address!

there’s a Total Wine in Cheery Hill NJ. don’t know if that’s close or not but look up their locations. that’s where I get my FR and Pappy. they have tastings and such. decent selection of cigars and ginormous selection of wines and beer.
shows FR single barrel there but didn’t see the Angel. remember that when you get a single barrel or small batch write down the barrel or batch # on the bottle before heading to the liquor store. that way you can try to find the same or if the last wasn’t you try another.
on another note if you like Vodka try Firefly as it’s a local SC product.

Hanging out with my buddy Johnny Walker black for the game. Like you I’m drinking the open bottle. I’m also trying to save the Laphroaig. I stress TRYING! Hope everybody enjoys the game.

Are you telling me the Total Wine in Cherry Hill gets in Pappy?! I’ve been there a dozen times over the years, do you know if they have a waiting list or is it just first come first serve?

I just checked the website and noticed they have FR Single Barrel, which, confusingly enough, is actually different than FR Limited Edition Single Barrel.

Also, as an aside, FR Limited Edition Small Batch comes in 10 different mash bills, further adding to the confusion.

If there is 1 brand that annoys me more than anything, it’s FR and all of their different brandings/mash bills. I read nothing but great things about all of them, but just hard to keep up with.

You local to the tristate area, silverblood?

Pitiful game. Hopefully the JW treated you right.

I ended up drinking the last of my bottle of Russel’s Reserve instead. After the Blanton’s is gone, I’ll feel better about opening up a new bottle.

I know the local TW gets Pappy in. it comes out once a year in oct/nov and your limited to 1 bottle of each. they take your name off your license so you don’t buy up the limited supply.
trust me, there are other bourbons that are just as bad as FR on the bills.
no, I’m in SC(77 deg today) but just trying to help you find that perfect bourbon.

For those who happen to be “whiskey young” and are learning the impact this glorious liquid could have on your character and lifestyle, the following is a sixty-two year old comment that will always apply:

WHISKEY

In 1952, Armon M. Sweat, Jr., a member of the Texas House of Representatives, was asked about his position on whiskey. What follows is his exact answer (taken from the Political Archives of Texas):

"If you mean whiskey, the devil’s brew, the poison scourge, the bloody
monster that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home,
creates misery and poverty, yea, literally takes the bread from the mouths
of little children; if you mean that evil drink that topples Christian men and
women from the pinnacles of righteous and gracious living into the
bottomless pit of degradation, shame, despair, helplessness, and
hopelessness, then, my friend, I am opposed to it with every fiber of my being.

However, if by whiskey you mean the lubricant of conversation, the
philosophic juice, the elixir of life, the liquid that is consumed
when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and the
warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas
cheer, the stimulating sip that puts a little spring in the step of an
elderly gentleman on a frosty morning; if you mean that drink that
enables man to magnify his joy, and to forget life’s great tragedies and
heartbreaks and sorrow; if you mean that drink the sale of which
pours into Texas treasuries untold millions of dollars each year, that
provides tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our
deaf, our dumb, our pitifully aged and infirm, to build the finest
highways, hospitals, universities, and community colleges in this nation,
then my friend, I am absolutely, unequivocally in favor of it.

This is my position, and as always, I refuse to compromise on matters of
principle."

My understanding is that the color and (most of) the taste come from the aging process, I’m more than a bit skeptical. If you try them, let us know how it goes. I’d be surprised if you tasted anything other than rubbing alcohol.
So, some five months later I finally had a chance to pick up some Jim Beam “Jacob’s Ghost”. Supposedly it’s a “true” white whiskey, as it’s aged “for at least one year in white oak barrels”, it does have a very faint pale yellow hue instead of being crystal clear.

19 bucks. 80 proof but doesn’t have any bite or punch at all. A kinda dull caramel/vanilla-ish flavor (dull as in flat, not sweet, no real pop to it).

Underwhelming and seriously not worth the wait. Better over ice than neat. Might be decent with club soda or Sprite. I’ve also read some people simply use white whiskey in place of vodka for mixed drinks.

I envy you! I know even without trying it that if I were given the chance to choose one case of free booze…any booze…I am to pick this.

In the article it said he died 3 weeks later.

And the bet was for who would pay the 7 dollar tab.

Never would have happened if he would have drank some better stuff. I expect a 47 year old to know good stuff from bad stuff.

just for grins
had to check in a flammable hazmat 20’ tank today. it was carrying 48000+lbs of “Bourbon Whiskey 90-120 proof”. didn’t get a chance to see which distillery it was from.
