Been lurking over this awesome website for a long time. It’s strange that a whiskey thread brought me out of the shadows. This is my first post. Anyway, I like a drink as much as the next guy but up until now it’s was mainly just beer or occasional mixed drink. Beer sorta bloats me up which I don’t like. I’m gonna start trying whiskey’s neat. Don’t particularly like JD. From watching this thread, I think I wanna start with Buffalo Trace or Woodford Reserve. Do you guys think this would be a good start?
( off topic sorta ) I train very hard on 531. Trying to strike a balance between drinking and training without going overboard. Just wanted some drinker/lifters perspective on how much the whiskey effects their training.
Crowdhater, you’re busting me up. Six months ago you were a rank amateur, now you’re breaking them down for us. LOL

Damn it’s only been 6 months…maybe I’m a natural.

Had a few drams of Laphroaig 10 tonight before dinner. Dinner was creole catfish with wild rice and mushrooms. I will remember this night. Alas, my bottle of Laphroaig is now gone. I will be getting another real soon. My favorite to this point. Even beating Talisker. Really want to try Laguvulin ( spl ) 16. Still enjoying my Bowmore legends for any everyday peated whisky though.
Looking for cheaper peat bomb whisky. Anybody ever try this one. Is it as peaty as Laphroaig or Ardbeg?
Enjoying Laphroaig but always looking for value. Some experts online think its a 5 yearold Ardbeg.
Edit: Disregard, it costs the same where I live. I’ll just stick with Laphroaig.
Editx2. I bought 4 bottles of Laphroaig today I’m good for a while cheers
Also drinking knob creek single barrel last night. Push, you’d be proud. 120 proof and no splash of water necessary. :-)
I have a bottle that I’m steadily consuming. It is one of my favs.
Got some of this for Christmas and I agree. I think it’s a poor man’s Bookers with kind of a unique dusty undertone. A splash isnt necessary but I think it’ a bit better if you knock it down to 100 proof or so.

Nice. My wife snatched up another bottle of the 12-year Special Reserve Lot B, and I say without a doubt it is still the best I’ve ever had. I’d love to get my hands on one of the Family Reserves.
I just picked up a bottle of that. My liquor store has that and lagavulin 16.
Laphroaig reminds me of smoked Patron. It goes down so smooth and I could probably chug the whole bottle in one go if I wanted to get crazy. It’s definitely my favorite, even just for its drinkability as a scotch.
My brother got me a bottle of Glenlivet 18 for Xmas. Every sip felt like a swift kick to the nads, which while not unpleasant, did detract from the experience slightly.
