Just finished my bottle of Woodford. ( loved it ) Kinda don’t know where to go from here. I don’t like Jameson at all or ( so far ) Jim Beam products. I would like to try Scotch. Suggestions? should I try different Bourbon’s for a while before I try Scotch. I have never tried a wheaty Whiskey like Makers maybe try those? I can tell you I loved every drop of Woodford and I will be making my way back to that one eventually. I have a smal bottle of Gentleman’s Jack and I would say I like it but it tasted weak compared to Woodford IMO. I’m not much of a bar guy so I’ll probably be buying the 375? ml bottles to try at home. I also like to just buy 1 bottle at a time to give the whiskey a chance. Scotches I was considering…Glenlivitt 12–Glenfiddich 12. Bourbon’s considering…Elmer T Lee- Makers–Bulliet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My Costco has a Glenlivitt sampler right now containing a 12, 15 & 18. That might be a good one to get. It’s pretty affordable if I remember right. I think it was in the 30’s. Each bottle is big enough for you to “give it a chance”, though I don’t remember how big. They’re probably 500mL but that’s just a guess.
Of the whiskey’s I’ve had, Maker’s is the smoothest. I’d say it’s kind of a sure thing. It’s not as flavorful as something like Woodford so it might not be your favorite, but it’s so smooth there’s really nothing to dislike.
Drinking whiskey straight is like smoking cigarettes and gay sex.
Not a chance in hell that anyone thought it was good the first time but I guess the start to enjoy it over time.

It’s this way for most of the things us humans put great craftsmanship into. Beer, Coffee, Wine, Cheese, Hard Liquor, Cigars, I’m sure there’s more. Stuff people like right off, us humans ruin. Kids love Mac & Cheese the first time they have it and what do we do? We make it as cheap and terrible as possible. Kraft Mac & Cheese. Things that are an acquired taste like whiskey, we go to great lengths to make as good as possible. Triple distilled, aged for 18 years in a charred cask etc etc. Ya gotta appreciate the dedication that goes into it.

That was almost a great analogy.
I was so tempted to italicize part of that last word.

Are you talking about combining the two or each on their own?

Indeed. I’ve become a fan. Been drinking it onboard Delta flights. It’s complimentary in first class. Flight attendant keeps on pouring. I’m happy.
An ode to Temperance:
We never eat cookies because they have yeast,
One little bite turns a man to a beast.
And have you ever seen a sadder disgrace,
Than a man in First Class with crumbs on his face?!

An Ode Against Temperance:
Sup we must at kind nature’s ample provender?
Then quaff spirit spiked violet with lavender.
If in flight the stewardess a drink suborn,
Then hoover, if you must, from malt or rye or corn!
Got a bottle of this while I was at the store. Smells like pears and almonds. Tastes like buttered pears and almonds. Fucking delicious!! Totally different than Bourbon IMO. Not better…just different. No burn whatsoever. I think after this bottle I might go up on the Scotch smoke scale…Something like Oban 14? The pic has my new Glencairn glasses along with the Glenlivet.

Tried Talisker?
No. Glenlivet is my first Scotch. Is Talisker smokier/stronger than Glenlivet?
