Whiskey!

Been drinking a glass of Woodford occasionally since I discovered I really like it. The bottle is already half gone. ( wife actually likes it too ) Having a glass every once in a while really relaxes me. I tend to be really hyper most of the time. Also, compared to beer, I tend to not overdrink whiskey. Also, lately I’ve been setting some nice PR’s in the gym so it hasn’t effected my training at all.

Lanky, I've been reading about your Elmer T. Lee suggestion. I read that he recently passed away. The man lead a very interesting life. Fully plan on trying his whiskey. Cheers

By all accounts he was an icon in the industry. The good thing is he has left a legacy with a namesake product that is great and very affordable, it should be around for a long time to come.

I paid 30,000 yen for it. That would be $310 at today’s exchange rate.

I think…I think I like you!

What do you do that you speak before a thousand? I’d pee your pants.

Finally got on the Islay whisky. Laphroig (sp?) 10yo.

Tastes like I’m drinking smoking charcoal. Love it.

Now you know why I drink before…to give myself whiskey dick so I won’t show how excited I am.

Oh man…that looks good…is that 20 or 30 years old? How much does that cost ya if you don’t mind me asking?
Lanky got it right, it is the 25 year old.

I paid 30,000 yen for it. That would be $310 at today’s exchange rate.

Im really hoping that the old man is feeling generous and sharing ;)
My Dad would be super cheap to buy for. Last time I was visiting he had two brands. DeWares he described as nice and smooth for drinking, and Old Smugler he said was for mixing because it’s rougher. I figured for my well being I should start with the DeWares, first noting it was in a plastic bottle - and not nice plastic, it was like recycled plastic. I took one sip and thanked my lucky stars I had stopped at an indian reservation on the way there picking up a bottle of Woodford for really cheap. I also picked up a bottle of Maker’s in Utah for way than I can get it in Washington. Anyway, point is I could get my Dad a bottle of Old #7 and it would be the best whiskey he ever had.

My buddy in Canada says we’re going to split a bottle of this when I go home next month. That is if we can find a bottle.

Well, I would look at that as both a blessing and a curse. Certainly is cheaper, but you miss out on drinking some nice whisky

I just got back from visiting my parents and my dad decided to open a bottle of Macallan 12 year old. Bloody nice drink, but considering some of the stuff he has got, pretty run of the mill.

Im 35 this year and I started buying scotch for my dad when I was 18. Always at least a 12 year old, and two bottles a year (xmas and birthday).
That works out at 34 bottles of good scotch at least ( I think my brother sometimes does the same).
The sad thing is that he has hardy put a dent in it all!! he always says “Im saving it for a special occasion” so it just sits there. Im tempted to give him more grandkids so he’ll have an excuse to drink the bloody stuff!

What can you tell us about that bottle? I’ve never seen it and now you’ve gone and peaked my interest!

I don’t know…he sent me the pic saying we need to find some next month.

He said “we’d need to split the cost” which makes me think it’s going to be over $100 a bottle or something. He said he’d tried a shot at a bar and it made him weep.

More Woodford today for me. I know it’s too early but I don’t give a shet! About 3 fingers worth…neat every drop butterscotch and smooth. Deload week coming up and I’m damn set on finding a scotch I like. Might pick up a Glenlivet 12 seems like a good start. Want to try a wheat Bourbon to see how I like it also. Thinking of W.l Weller ( I think that’s the name ) Can’t believe 3/4 of my Woodford is already gone… Damn good stuff!

I also ordered a pair of the glencairn? glasses so I can go all whiskey snob. I don't have any good glasses around for drinking and got a good deal on Amazon. Also, here is a noob tip for drinking whiskey that I found out the hard way.. Don't ever use mouthwash and brush your teeth and then drink whiskey. I did exactly that on accident a few days ago. It was like a 1/2 hour after I brushed I poured some Woodford and tasted terrible. I was like did it go bad or something? Then I figured it out. Don't do that!!!! Waste of a great tasting Whiskey!! Cheers

It feels like they went for flash. Four Roses and Makers 46 are Top 10 bourbons? The writer likes pretty bottles.

Thanks for posting. Angel’s Envy will be my next purchase. It might be another Brown-Forman show horse.

Agree completely. And Angel’s Envy is well worth the price of admission.

Edit - but so it goes with just about all lists that get put out. The same thing can be said of Cigar Aficionado’s top 25 cigar list every year. I feel like the magazine editors know that everyone wants to feel like they’re smoking a top 25 cigar so they put something in there for everyone, even though half of the cigars on the list are pure crap. I imagine the goal of this list was similar.

I guess the Century Sam’s that I used to smoke were called that because they could only reach 100th place.

Just finished my bottle of Woodford. ( loved it ) Kinda don’t know where to go from here. I don’t like Jameson at all or ( so far ) Jim Beam products. I would like to try Scotch. Suggestions? should I try different Bourbon’s for a while before I try Scotch. I have never tried a wheaty Whiskey like Makers maybe try those? I can tell you I loved every drop of Woodford and I will be making my way back to that one eventually. I have a smal bottle of Gentleman’s Jack and I would say I like it but it tasted weak compared to Woodford IMO. I’m not much of a bar guy so I’ll probably be buying the 375? ml bottles to try at home. I also like to just buy 1 bottle at a time to give the whiskey a chance. Scotches I was considering…Glenlivitt 12–Glenfiddich 12. Bourbon’s considering…Elmer T Lee- Makers–Bulliet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
