I know this thread is all about teh whiskey, but if I’m in a ‘standard’ bar or restaurant I usually order nothing but beer out of bottles…all this talk about rubbing alcohol, etc…about 15 years ago I made this decision after drinking margaritas with She Say at some place near the beach…we each literally drank about 20 margaritas and no buzz…you couldn’t tast the booze and we kept telling the waitress there was no booze in there and she’d say, “Oh it’s in there, just you wait”…we were like we’ve had 20 each we should be fucking dead ya twat.
Tru story.[/quote]
Yea fuck that order a margarita then a shot of tequila.

Wild Turkey Rye, neat, for me. For my cheap whiskey anyway. Although for just a few dollars more the Bulleit Rye is much better.

That Bulleit Rye is pretty good, I cracked open a bottle a couple weeks ago.
If you’re into Rye (I actually am just starting to get into them), Whistlepig is one of only a few 100% ryes on the market and is supposed to be great. I saw some a few weeks ago and picked up 2 bottles just based on this guy’s review (this guy has tastes that align very closely with my own, although this guy has a ridiculous palate).

So does Herb Kelleher, founder of Southwest Airlines. From first hand accounts, apparently quite a lot - to the point that his tolerance is quite impressive.
One of my Econ professors was with Herb when he polished off about 1/2 a bottle before a speech. No one could tell. It may have been his secret to polished public speaking.
Sorry for the hijack. Speaks to the power to whiskey.
I’ve had some whiskey before public speaking, I mean maybe 1/2 of one of the glass hip flasks…and it doesn’t get me drunk at all, but takes the edge off so you don’t feel any jitters.
I mean if I had the same amount at home I’d likely feel it, but the public speaking “anxiety” cuts that back to where you feel at ease.

Ha! I don’t mean then…I don’t consider teaching to be public speaking.
I was the host of a series of shows with audiences of about a thousand and had a few sips beforehand. It’s the sort of thing where only people right next to me would tell I’d drunk anything from the smell.
O.k , been real busy with work-training-coaching so I havn’t got around to trying whiskey untill today. I have a bottle of Woodford-and a small bottle of Jameson and Gentleman’s Jack. Tried the Jameson 1st ( hated it ) I really can’t describe why but I think it had a fake taste to it almost metallic? Then I tried the GJ ( I liked it a lot better than Jameson ) I then poured some Woodford… OMG pure butterscotch like everybody says. That stuff IMO is dangerously good. Kinda hard to describe but it just flows down your throat. I really liked it. I drank them all neat. I also waited a good while between each one and drank some water. I put a little ice in the Jameson to see if i’d like it better. I think it made it worse. I know alot of people said Jameson is a good start but it wasn’t for me. Glad I bought the small bottle. My wife can use it for Irish Coffee or some kind of cocktail. My wife spit out the GJ ( which was funny as hell ) She then tried the Woodford and said, " That’s not bad and not as harsh." She kinda laughed when I told her the Woodford is actually more potent at 90 proof. After I drank about 3 fingers of it…I smelled the glass after it was empty and it smelled like pure butterscotch even more. Didn’t really pick up any other flavors ( being a rookie ) Nice little relaxing buzz was also a nice bonus. So this was like 2 hours ago and I have since ate but the smell and the taste of that Woodford is still lingering around ( does this happen to anybody else?)
I’m so glad that I like American whiskey/bourbons so far. Something about drinking are own is just kind of cool. A few pages back I had a bad experience with Knob Creek so I thought I might not like any bourbons. I’m glad I was wrong. I think I’ll finish the Woodford and the GJ before I branch out anymore. I’d still like to at least try a wheated bourbon and a rye. I have a friend who has a nice little basement bar so maybe I can try scotch over there. If anybody has any whiskey suggestions for a guy who doesn’t like Knob Creek or Jameson but loves Woodford would love to hear them.

Good to hear you’ve found some stuff you like, man! I’d keep drinking the Woodford and trying new things, in a year or two give Knob Creek another go and you may be surprised. Knob Creek is straight up caramel in my opinion, just not quite as easy to distinguish because it’s 100 proof.
Also, Elmer T. Lee is something you’ll want to try.

I think after I finish the bottle of Woodford I’m gonna try the Knob Creek again. I think there’s something about Beam product that remind me of a sick/drunk experience in college. I also wonder if when I tried Knob Creek maybe it was food coloring and rubbing alohol lol.
