Yeah, compared to Irish whiskey bourbon will have a sweetness and kick that you may not like.[/quote]

Yeah, I was at a steak place that had a full bar. I asked the waitress for a list of Bourbon’s. She came back and said, " Maker’s Mark, JD , JB , and Knob Creek. I ordered a double neat Knob Creek. Anyway, I drank about 3/4 of the glass and decided I had enough. The waitress came around and said, " You didn’t like your drink?" I said, " not really " When I got the bill she didn’t charge me for the drink. I mean how much money is that? I gave her a good tip.

Like I said earlier, I didn’t like the Knob Creek at all except what you guys call the " finish ". It felt like Wow I just drank something. I wonder if I ordered the Maker’s if it would have been different. I think Knob is 100 proof maybe it was a bit much for starting out. Most of the places I go to eat have Jameson’s. I think I’ll give that a try

JD isn’t bourbon…from their site: Jack Daniel’s is not a bourbon - it’s a Tennessee Whiskey. Jack Daniel’s is dripped slowly - drop-by-drop - through ten feet of firmly packed charcoal (made from hard sugar maple) before going into new charred oak barrels for aging. This special process gives Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey its rare smoothness. It’s this extra step - charcoal mellowing â?? that makes Jack Daniel’s a Tennessee Whiskey.

Jamesons is ‘smoother’…just keep trying different ones…and pretty soon you’ll love them all…it’s not necessarily an acquired taste, but…it takes a while…

I like crown and diet coke drank it for years now.

So I bought this reserve to drink over ice.

I am very happy with this so I will stick with this.

 I like both but Jack makes me mean so Maya will not let me drink.

Someday we will clink glasses my friend.

Looking forward to it.

I never have been a fan of drinks over ice. Makes me feel like I need to drink it fast before it gets that watered down flavor. The only whiskey that I like over ice is Wild Turkey 101. Tried Jameson and it just made it to sweet.

I prefer this Frost one with a nice 20 year old Macallan. The Frost part really sets off the parts of the whiskey that go with the Gatorade part.

It was a long time ago when I had Jack, I’m gonna try it again on my quest to find a whiskey or whisky I like. I forgot that I had a bad super drunk/sick experience with Jim Beam to this day I can’t stand the smell of it. Since Knob Creek comes from the same place I wonder if that was what turned me off. Anyway, I’m not giving up. Cheers

Have you tried Irish or Canadian whisky? I really like bourbon but both of those are not quite as harsh and have a slightly different flavor so it might not trigger that stomach churning sensation.

I have that same experience with vodka by the way.

Just found this pic on a whiskey review site I was reading recently. Seems appropriate.

Think about trying Gentleman Jack. I tried it a few months back and, while I haven’t picked up another bottle because I’m still trying new stuff, it’s definitely coming back into the rotation. It’s very smooth and doesn’t have that punch in the face/nose/throat like classic JD.

I picked up a bottle of Concannon Irish whiskey the other week. Pretty nice. It’s 80 proof but doesn’t even seem that strong. Has a nice, almost lemon-ish, slightly sour note. Definitely not bad for $20.

I read some WEB Griffin a few months ago and then went out and bought some Famous Grouse…
I be enjoying

Grouse is ok, it’s probably my preferred house blended on a night out but its still rather mundane.

I’ve not drank in months, and not had whiskey in even longer.

Thankfully I will be visiting the Ol’ Pultney distillery next month and will pick up some that awesome shiz.

I liked Gentlemans Jack a lot, even though I am not really a fan of Jack Daniels. However I didn’t like it that much more to justify the extra price.

Thats exactly what I like about OLD NO. 7 Its the perfect blend for me.

I’m gonna have some Irish real soon prob Jameson’s or Bushmills. My wife just bought me a bottle of Woodford. I’m gonna leave it sealed untill I get more used to whiskey or whisky.
The Knob Creek I tried has a real bite that I think I wasn’t ready for. I read other reviews on Knob Creek and they mostly said it did have quiet a kick. Most Online sites and a few people on this thread recommended Irish or Lower proof smooth Bourbons like Basil Hayden’s or even Maker mark for a beginner like me. Anyway, just started deload week so I’m gonna get my drink on!

Jameson is my personal choice of drinking whiskey. I like 100+ proof bourbon for shooting or when I am in the mood for something stronger. As I have gotten older my taste in whiskey’s has def moved away from the bite of bourbon though and more towards the smoother whiskeys.
