Whiskey!

Never mind whiskey, I a number of years ago tried a shot of Jamaican rum. J. Wray and Nephew, the stuff was labeled 160 proof. One of my friends poured some onto a ceramic dish and put a match to it, a blue flame came up. I figure you could run a car on the stuff. I mixed it down with eggnog and I was still just about stupored after a couple of minutes, I just went to bed.
As much as it pains me to tell you this, we never accepted you into our little whiskey club to begin with. You came in here, acting all out of sorts about craft whiskeys and getting taken and it really put us all on edge. We were all uncomfortable from your mere presence in this thread.

Then you go ahead and try to nudge the discussion towards rum and we all knew it right then and there - this guy has got to go. You’re the sort of menace that leaches onto a thread with barely an interest in the topic at hand, constantly trying to shift the attention to something of more interest to himself, though not at all related to the original topic.

You’re the kind of guy who goes to a bible study session to discuss the newest Superman movie, because hey, they were both written, right? Trust me, sen, you’re not wanted here. Not now, not ever.
Geez, sen, that was a bit harsh.

So…hold off on telling him no refund on the membership fee?

This is really great whisky series.

Has anyone on this thread tasted either of the four offerings within “The 1824 Series” recently released by The Macallan?

This whisky is matured in 100% sherry casks and retains it’s natural color (these being known as Gold, Amber, Sienna, and Ruby) range, while also describing naturally occurring mineral and metals.

Unfortunately, the Gold is scheduled for release only in Canada and the UK. Got a Canadian friend to purchase a few bottles of the Gold for my collection; and hold same, until the opportunity presents itself.

THIS IS A WHISKEY THREAD

You want to start a gin thread?

Careful - Orion might start talking about Hendricks Gin.
Bombay Saphire you unwashed barbarian.

Do you guys prefer a specific proof? I know push likes that 120 proof (which explains the hair on his chest).

I prefer somewhere in the 90 - 100 range, although it’s been inching up over the past couple years as 80 proof was my standard before I got more into the hobby.
I’m like you. I’ve had 120, but its alcohol starts to slightly overpower the um, Bourbonity…err, um, I mean the whiskeyness of it.

I can never be one of those tasters.

I prefer 90-100 proof. Wild Turkey 101 is about as strong as I like to go. My Woodford is a little over 92 proof - and I think it has the right burn-to-flavor ratio.

Lower proofs can be decent as well, though. I like Gentleman Jack and I think it’s right around 80 proof.

How about cap versus cork?

Cork for the look and feel (which is part of the overall experience), but cap for long term storage if I don’t plan on opening something for a long time, haha.

I’m cork all the way. Too many years of enduring Jim Beam and Jack Daniels to ever want another screw cap.

I am still boycotting Maker’s Mark for going to a cap.

Costco (of all places) has this on sale right now and it’s some of the tastiest I’ve had. It’s really smooth though so if you’re looking for a bite then this isn’t for you.

That’s a great price for that bottle. I still have an unopened bottle I got for Christmas last year, haven’t tried it yet. But I know it usually runs $90 or so.

Open that bad boy up and try it.

Too many open bottles right now, I’ve got to finish what I started first!

I always buy more than I drink, keeps the collection on the upswing.

I’m that way with cigars. I gotta start smoking more.

Whisky and cigars make for good company.
