The thing with a really expensive scotch like a 30 year old Macallan is figuring out which Gatorade to mix it with.

Anyone here into the Islay malts? I just discovered these recently and am absolutely in love with their rich, smokey flavor. I’ve gone through a bottle each of Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 12, and Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin being my favorite by far. I think that quote on the bottle, something like “Time takes out the fire, but leaves in the warmth” pretty accurately sums it up. Anyways, any other bottles you guys would highly recommend?
Also, try Garrison Brothers Texas bourbon if you ever stumble across it. Delicious.
I’m not a huge fan of Scotch, but Lagavulin is among my favorite Scotches.
Never heard of the Garrison Brothers, do you know if its widely distributed? I live in PA where our liquor stores are run by the state, so the selection is always terrible, but I live close enough to Jersey to visit the liquor store if something catches my fancy.
They are fairly new and, from what I have heard, have had some serious issues meeting demand. I would not be surprised to hear it was not available outside of Texas. The store I found it at in Dallas had it as an “off-the-shelf” special and said they only received 4 bottles per month.

Haha, it would be a lot more funny if it wasn’t so…cringe worthy.
Over the last few months, I’ve been trying a few new ones out.
Bulleit bourbon was very nice. Smooth start with a kinda sweet punch after. Funny, I picked up a bottle of this, then went to see Stallone’s “Bullet to the Head” flick a while back. In the movie, it’s his character’s drink of choice.
For some reason, they have him order it at two points in the film, and each time they make a point to say that no bar has it in stock. That was just odd. I guess because the word “bullet” is in the film title and the drink is pronounced “bullet”, they wanted to give him a reason to tell the bartender “Gimme a double bullet.” Weird.
Bulleit rye was also pretty nice, but has a little more sour note. I preferred the original.
Gentleman Jack was smooth, like the Bulleit. I’ve heard it has a bad reputation, not being as “tough” as original JD, but whatever. I liked it. That smooth start, just like the Bulleit, makes it a little too easy to drink, though. I can see myself going through it faster than I’d otherwise prefer to.
Jameson black barrel is on my radar to try out. Supposed to be aged in bourbon barrels for a different taste. Best of both worlds maybe? Worth a shot anyhow. Ha. Worth a shot. Shot, I said. Unintentional liquor pun. Hehe.

I knew there was a reason I like you Chris
Glendronach 12, Oban 14, Aberlour 10 are some of my favorites. Just bought a bottle of Jura 16 that I plan on popping open with a friend this weekend along with some Nicaraguan stogies.
Scotch + Cigar = WINNING! <<>>
Last year I smoked the last of a case of Cubans I had bought while on vacation in Mexico. I actually think the Nicaraguans I have now are better than those Cubans from last year, but that could just be one of my personality quirks coming out.

X2
I’m a fan of the Bulleit myself. And, here in DC at least, bars ARE beginning to stock it.
For those of you whiskey fans who ever make it to DC, Jack Rose is a MUST STOP.
They literally have more than 1500 DIFFERENT BOTTLES of whiskey and bourbon. Seriously. It’s like a temple to the whiskey gods. That being said, it’s overpriced. But seeing that wall of bottles is worth a $13 drink, IMHO.
Another article on Jack Rose. I’d have edited my earlier post, but given the fact that I’m moderated like a mutherfucker these days, I don’t feel like waiting for it to show up.

You’re not alone. Nicaragua has been producing some of the best tobacco for years now. If I had to guess, I’d probably say that 7-8 out of my top 10 favorite cigars are from Nica.
That’s not to say that all Nicaraguan cigars are great, there is crap from every country. But personally I think Nicaragua is producing the best tobacco these days.

So you’re saying I’ve got a drinking buddy now? Cool. I’m not cut out for drinking alone, Thorogood tune or not.

Sarcasm or is it really worth considering? I keep seeing this on the shelf but pass it by because, meh, no particular reason.
