I am doing 531 for strength mainly so is it better to do low bar squats which people can usually do more weight on, or high bar squats as deadlifts already train the posterior chain a lot which low bar squats focus on.
Are going to compete in PL? Which squat style feels stronger?
Maybe I will try PL but the main goal is to compete in Strongman.
When I did do low bar squats a few months ago it felt uncomfortable for on the wrists and it felt like the bar was going to fall over sometimes. So high bar does feel more comfortable but I don’t want to in the future realize I left a lot of weight on the table by only doing high bar and not training low bar because supposedly you can lift more with low bar.
For strongman the HB is geberally more useful. But do which one feels better. You can train pretty fucking strong legs with either.
It really doesn’t matter. Train one until you stall or get bored with it and swap out to another style.
I doubt Jim would give a damn if you use his rep scheme and training philosophy on any variety of front squats, SSBs, High Bar, low bar etc. as long as you squat.
That’s the beauty of 531. Once you know you 1RM you can set a TM on about any lift and use 531 programming to progress it.
There’s no reason to pick only one style. Use a variety.
A good advice.
So like using low bar for heavg sets then high bar for the bbb part?
Or some training cycles all high bar, some all low bar. Powerlifters in the prior eras used to do all their training high bar and then switch to low bar during meet prep. Can also play with food width too.
fixed that for you, but now I am thinking about what wide food I can eat.
sounds like 5/3/1 building the monolith
Personally, I’ve used all kinds of styles: Front squat, Zercher, Pause squats, pin squats. Go wild.
Burritos if you do then awesome style
