So I am wondering if I am wasting my time drinking a protien shake in the morning (9:30) instead of trying to get something slow releasing since I lift in the evening between 4:00 and 5:00.I know its not a waste but am I wasting my protien when I should be taking something like Metabolic Drive instead.
I’d focus on a good, solid meal with protein.

Depends. Do you wake up at 9:29?
Generally if you are using protein to aid muscle growth the goal is a certain amount per day. Such as trying to get 250 grams of protein in a day. So for example in six meals spread thru the day that would be an average of forty grams per meal. It’s hard to eat the much protein hence the powder supplement. So, use it to help get in extra protein whether at breakfast, between meals, in the afternoon, around training, and at bedtime.
Metabolic Drive is a blend of both fast and slower digesting proteins so it’s ideal. But if all you have is whey by all means use it. It’s better then not using anything.

I usually drink a balanced protein blend (50gm) in the AM with a fat source (ie sesame, olive, walnut oil) added. If it’s the day after training I may have oatmeal w/ cinnamon and honey, instead of the fats. Either way this stays with me until about 10:30, then I reach for a snack (usually a tablespoon of natty pb, or a couple of handfuls of trailmix).

Two of the best times to get fast digesting proteins is peri-workout and upon waking.
If you can get some protein in about 2 hours later I would take whey. If you aren’t going to eat for 3 hours or so I would either do a slow digesting protein or solid meal. IMHO
just EAT!
OK hears the deal,I get up at 5 eat a bowl of cereal and take vites then work starts at 6.At first break at 8:30 I eat a large portion of unsweetened oatmeal and yogurt (not together) then at 9:30 I drink the shake.

Bad, bad, bad.
Get the whey first thing in the morning, and throw in some eggs with your oatmeal.
