When it comes to meals for when you just wake up i’ve heard its best to drink a shake and have some oatmeal because the protein will be absorbed quicker after basically starving yourself all night rather then having eggs or steak or something like that which needs to be broken down first. Or does it not really matter?
The oatmeal is for as far as I know to serve as fuel for the rest of the day. The shake (a whey shake I suppose), is to get your cortisol down as soon as possible and thus your body anabolic. BCAA’s have a faster rate of absorption, but it’s still not incredibly fast.
A steak or so delivers a whole other kind of protein, which takes longer to digest.
Come on man, just eat some friggen food. I’m sure your body will do fine with the slow digesting proteins provided by that measly steak and eggs.
Yeah bro, don’t overcomplicate something as simple as eating as soon as you wake up. My breakfast selection comes down to convenience and prep time. EVery morning (for like the past 3 years) I’ve had the same damn thing (at least on work days). Bowl of oatmeal with 2 scoops of Metabolic Drive thrown in, a few tbsps of natural peanut butter as well, and occassionally a handful of flax seeds.
2 minutes in the microwave, a minute mixing all that crap in the bowl, and done eating in under 10 minutes.

Every morning for breakfast I fry up half a package of Canadian Bacon, and scramble 4 eggs in a decent amount of olive oil. I eat that, wait a few minutes for it to settle and then spread peanut butter liberally on a large banana and eat that.
About 65g protein and 800 calories.
This kind of breakfast has been giving me MUCH better gains than a protein shake and a couple of pieces of fruit.
I even make pasta when I have the time, but a shake, some bread and two handfuls of cashew, almonds and brazil-nut usually suffice when in a hurry.
Upon waking i do water+whey and workout 15 min later. After my workout its always 2 cups oats, 2 tbs ground flax, 1 tbs coffee grounds, cinnamon and at times 1 tbs cocoa powder all mix in the oats and nuked. I drink 12oz skim with it.
Great breakfast and works for me, quick and easy also
Ahhh…if you are worried about absorption why are you eating the oatmeal which has a lot of fiber and will slow digestion?
Monday through friday mornings I am a boring person. Get on the scale, 45minutes on the bicycle, get cleaned up. Breakfast is Oatmeal with a teaspoon of raisins, and hardboiled egg whites. I am considering adding a protein into the oatmeal. This has worked well for me for some years.
For my own breakfast, I use about 150-200grams of oats, half a litre of 1,5% skimmed milk, 30grams of whey, 20 grams of broken flaxseeds and some brinta (I don’t know if you guys even have it in the stores, it’s wheatflakes) for thickness. Please do note I’m bulking, for cutting I wouldn’t advice such a big breakfast.
Ya i have never been worried about absorbtion and dont even use a pwo shake. I believe a good overall daily diet is more important than a pwo shake. I like my oats and there benefits outweigh any of the negatives
