Looking to add sandbag training into the home gym.
Does anyone recommend any specific sites or companies in which to buy the sandbag training kits from?
I did find an online source the discusses how to build your own.
Anyone have exerpiance buying a kit? And or building a kit?
A canvas duffle bag will be much more challenging to use than anything you buy from Iron Woody Fitness and the like. Cheaper too.

find a budget/dept store with a canvas duffel bags.
go get contractor bags from home depot(thick ass plastic).
get play sand.
get zip-tie cords.
double bag the sand (up to 100lbs but use multiples in a single duffel if it is big enough) in contractor bags, tie with two cords, place sandbags in duffle bag.
own.

I bought the Iron Mind kit in 2005. It sucks! Worst thing I’ve ever seen for sandbag training.
If you’re not going to make them yourself using an old duffle bag or the navy bags from an army surplus store, then I highly recommend these by Josh Henkin:

I have two of these bags (medium and small) and made my own filler bags using contractor’s bags, Duct tape and play sand.
I have some Iron Woody bags, but they are not nearly as good as the Josh Henkin sandbags.
In the pic above, you can see one of the Josh Henkin bags and one of the Iron Woody bags.

Anyone got any experience with them? I’ve tossed one around for a couple of minutes at a meet I was at last year, but wanted to know if anyone had used one for a while?
If you don’t need handles just go to Target or Walmart and buy some cheap rubber balls in the toys section. Let the air out and fill them with water. Diffent sizes = different weight.
To fill with water easily go to a hardware store.
In the lawn care section they should have water hose repair kits. Buy one that will tread on to your hose and has a small nipple.
Then go over the air tool/compessor acessories. Get a needle for an air hose that is used to fill up basket balls, ect. Glue the air needle into the hose fitting. Attach to hose, insert needle into deflated ball and fill with water. I guess you could put this inside a canvas bag as well. I just carry a large one around the yard and curse at it.
Also useful in making medicine balls out of basketballs, soccer balls, etc.

yup and to figuret he weight
a gallon of water is about 8 pounds
I use dirt in a duffle bag and also garbage bags
I agree with Nate Dogg, I got the ironmind kit and it is pretty shitty. Its just a huge blue canvas bag and it comes with some filler bags. You end up with a huge bag, with a couple sacks in that don’t stay together. Its better than nothing, but there is no real way to cinch it down so everything stays nice and tight.
I would get the Josh Henkin ones if I had to do it over.
And some words of wisdom, make sure you don’t overfill your filler bags or you end up with the equivalent of sand bricks. A little looser is better.
