I’m so happy to have started this thread. It’s very impressive to see where everybody comes from and where they’re at. It’s great for a beginner to see these progressions, and I think it’s also nice for you guys who have been lifting a long time to reflect where you started at and how far you’ve come. Very cool.
Fuck what other people think dude one of the best things about powerlifting is that the entire lifestyle is centered around not giving a fuck what other people think.
Started- Age 15 6’1 190
Bench 155x3
Squat 315x3
DL Didn’t even deadlift til I gained much more weight was like 365 @ 220 and an ugly motherfucker
Lifted sporadically throughout high school and college (D-1 bball player for a year so had the mandatory training program) but none of that carried over much and I didn’t do a lot else in college except drink and chase skirts…
Picked up the weights again back in March 2009 (with the V-Diet) and was weak as fuck…probably around 265 pounds at 6’5 and fat as hell…My first training log shows that in my first couple workouts I deadlifted 185 for 10, DB bench pressed the 65’s for 9, and squatted 200 for 9 (in the squat machine lol)
Hit a 550/375/563 in my last meet and aiming for 600/405/600 in my next meet in June.
Work hard and you can achieve a lot. To be world class it sure as hell will take a long time, but to lift respectable numbers, it takes 2-3 years and some hard ass work!
I train the Olympic lifts mostly… 4 months after I first started, these were my numbers:
Body weight: 130
Squat: 180
Bench: 137
Deadlift: 308
My progress hasn’t been as good as I wanted it to be. Right now, after 3.5 years of training, my 1 RMs are
Squat: 270
Bench: 190
Deadlift: 400
@ Body weight 155
200 bench and 285 deadlift 3 months after you started is quite impressive (after 3.5 years, my bench is still 190)… I guess you switched from Boxing to Powerlifting because you enjoy lifting… Keep training, don’t bother about the weights unless you’re not progressing at all…
