When I grow up, I want to be an Alicorn

Saw this and immediately thought of this log

That has filled me with absurd levels of unbridled joy.

Widowmaker set was many levels of awful.
Reps 1-8… Pause. I got this!
Reps 9-12… Pause. Breathe. Over halfway.
13… Pause. Oh no.
14… Air… Air…
15… Splitting headache began
16… Head pounding
17… Breathing control ended. Nausea began.
18… F
19… U
20… Done. Immediately sit down the safeties. Happy to be done. Then I realized I signed up to do those twice a week. Happiness evaporated.

Nausea and head ache kept me company through the accessory work. Thought I was going to lose dinner a couple of times. Very happy about the 6 reps of 200 on the squat though. Wonder if I can do the 20 reps with 2 plates by the end of the year. Is that too ambitious?

Anywho. I might start SS with 155lbs. Seems like a horrible weight to start at. Finished the book by the way. 5-10lb increase every time? Good hell, what have I agreed to?

This post should come with a warning label. ā€œThe surgeon general has determined the contents of this post to be EXTREMELY anabolicā€. I felt like I grew from reading it!

No such thing! Big goals are awesome.

Strossen gets in your head! I had ZERO intention of running the program before reading it. When I finished, I already had a 6 week cycle set up.

Big compliment coming from you, thank you!

Damn! you’re strong. I can only do 200 for 5 reps

I also out-weigh you by about 50lbs. With only 1 rep less, your power-to-weight ratio is a league above mine!

Legs are still sore from Monday. I haven’t been sore in weeks. Lats were burning on the pull downs. Bench was good, getting so close to a plate…

I am slacking on food pictures this week. Dinner last night: Keto lasagna and Italian salad

I really enjoy reading your log. Great squatting and pressing.

That meal looks awesome. Even the salad looks stellar!

I’m not very creative in the kitchen, but dishes like this always intrigue me. What recipe did you follow?

Thank you Bagsy! Reading your log was a big part of me getting up the gumption to start my own, I appreciate it!

As for recipes, there are a few food blogs I follow that keep my kitchen on a constant rotation of new things to try. I have a meal planning spreadsheet that I use. It’s a whole thing.

Lasagna:

I have made easily over a dozen recipes of his, have yet to find a bad one.

Salad:

Same here, have yet to try a bad recipe. This blog is more comfort food.
Big Man’s is more Keto/healthy.

That’s so kind of you! I am glad.

Interesting, I wondered if there would be any weird flours involved here.

So pretty! I am even too lazy to put that much effort into a salad, bahaha.

Thanks for sharing.

Legs were feeling stiff going into this, but they warmed up nicely. Everything except the lunges flew. Single leg stuff is not my jam, but I know I need it.
At the gym, there was a guy running on the treadmill in tall socks and Tevas. No matter what I go to this gym in, I will never be under dressed.

Press was great today. Getting close to three digits, that is absolutely a goal for this year.

That is a full six weeks folks. I enjoyed having to hit 4 solid sessions a week. Never done that before. Some weeks it did cause some stress, but I got them done. I feel like the mirror is showing noticeable improvements. Excited to continue the damage this year.

Pictures and weigh-in probably Monday. Off to play in the red rock this weekend.

20 rounds EMOM
Armor building complex, 35lb bells.

Lat pull downs
115lbs, 50 total reps

Cleans hurt with KB. Forearms now bruised. Other than that, I like that complex.

Photo time. I was thinking that I was looking pretty good in the mirror. Pictures do not allow you to lie to yourself. Not as much progress as I was hoping. Turned out more fluffy than intended. More conditioning is needed. I am wearing small shorts intentionally, they are my love handle gauge.

I find pictures don’t show much difference, even over months at times… I’m down 20lbs (about 10% total bodyweight) since Nov and pictures hardly show a difference lol.

This is the part to focus on IMO. YOU will see progress that pictures won’t do a good job of highlighting.

Do you intend to keep plugging away with 5/3/1? It seems to be working well for you

I do see progress, even in the photos. So I absolutely agree that Hardgainer did work well. And that was only 6 weeks. As for continuing, I am moving onto Super Squats after a week of deload. I will absolutely run another 5/3/1 template in the future, but not for many months.

After waiting for a month, and the item being here for weeks… it was lost and not delivered!
