When Are You 'Big Enough?'

I was about to write that I was wondering if there is an inherent fragility to the male ego that make some wonder about size and then I stopped myself because I know the answer. Yes, there is. …Why are you worried if you’re “big enough”? Me thinks the male ego is indeed very fragile.
Here is what can only be interpreted as you looking down on those attempting to gain muscle mass.

And that part you wrote about “those that protest the loudest”…wow, I have to say, what a mature and well thought out argument supporting your position (sarcasm)

Obviously you can’t understand the pursuit of muscle mass, so why try to discuss it? Just to mock those that follow this pursuit?

How about you? You’re pursuing strength, maybe you’re just too insecure, so you need to be the strongest guy in the room to validate yourself? If pursuit of size is indicative of insecurity, why not pusuit of strength? It works both ways
And by the way, pursuit of size is not necessarily indicative of insecurity - that’s for each to determine on their own, if they dare - that’s why I tossed that grenade out there. But if you think that every man that toils away in the gym is a secure rock of a man well then I have some little blue pills to sell you that are GUARANTEED to add inches to your pecker. You sound as if you believe every bimbo with a breast implant “did it for herself” or, “so my clothes fit better”. LOL.
That isn’t the point. What I hear OFTEN is that the only reason someone gets really big is because of being insecure. This usually comes from people who are out of shape completely, not very attractive and not very successful. I am not sure how the hell bodybuilding ever gained the notoriety for people to question the insecurities of all people involved the way they do. No one ever says, “The only reason that guy became a brain surgeon is because he was insecure about his intelligence”.

I’m big enough to hear all of this shit, good and bad. You get the people congratulating and coming up to speak to you just because of your size as well as the snide remarks every once in a while.

I do not lift weights to fit in. I do not lift because of some deep rooted insecurities. If anything, I doubt I am doing worse in life “generally speaking” then any of the people being so judgmental about how I look.

So the question is, why ON A BODYBUILDING FORUM would someone even question why we get big? Why relate that to a negative?

You can find insecure people in ALL FIELDS yet bodybuilding seems to be the only one where people ASSUME that every guy with 20" arms has a mental problem.

Does it scare people to find out that big guy is very secure, very intelligent and very accomplished? Does their head explode if they find this out?
X2. I was about to say something, but Prof X already said it all…

That you protest this simple fact so loudly is very interesting and too transparent to even mockingly lable it “freudian”.

Ah, resorting to false personal attacks. A sure sign of a weak argument.

No, I’m just smart enough not to repeat something thats just been said.

I’m not sure why you feel the need to keep on with personal attacks, perhaps you’re very unhappy with yourself and feel the need to lash out? Seems like someone your age (45) would be more mature than to engage in a “No, you are!” on the internet.

In anycase, even though you’re twice my age, it looks like I’ll have to be the grown-up here. So in that spirit I say that I’m done with this apparently pointless argument.

Keep attacking me if you will, but I will not be checking in here. If you chose to attack me while I’m gone, I’m sure everyone will see what you’re really made of.

I just wanted to chime in and say that OP has the best damn 6’ 205 pound physique I’ve ever seen, based on the avatar of course. Like waylander said, much hate!
Where the hell is the hate? I think he looks great.
The hate is in the people asking for leg shots when they have no pics of their own…as if his accomplishment isn’t good enough and they are looking for the error. Way too many in this thread tried to turn this back on the OP for no reason when the truth is, we should be happy another 120lbs kid didn’t start another thread about how girls are saying their 14" arms are huge.
Just to clarify, my “much hate” comment (as well as waylanders) is a compliment. The guy looks awesome, and I’m fucking jealous. Lol.

Wow - looks like we missed the point of this thread. And it really had potential op.

I saw this posted already but too big is when your quality of life is affected. I like to shoot hoop and at 240-245 I struggle to get up the floor and dunking is barely out of the question. I can however fix this (just choose not to/ goal vs a nice to do). Once I reach my goal 245-250 lean, then we’ll re-access.

Too big is when you can’t wipe your own ass. lol - that was funny.

Shouldn’t have to spoon feed people info even if they are a beginner. There’s a vast amount of information here, if you can’t sift through it, assess it, and learn from it, then you’re never going to learn anything anyway and probably won’t have the dedication to lift weights since you’re too lazy to even perform any critical thinking on your own. I can count on one hand the number of posters here I’d be willing to take advice from in regards to my training.

The problem is that just because someone can log on here you think we should be reading everything, by everyone, and hope to find something useful amongst the 99% bullshit…no thanks.

I’ve got my BOI, I’ve got CC, I’ve got X, I’ve got TD, a few other guys here, and I’ve got Dorian Yates (in spirit!) that’s all I need and I don’t feel the need to sift through randoms posts to find something new.

You’re awfully sensitive Spritle. Did you just threaten to take your ball and leave because I wasn’t playing the way you want me to play? LOL. It appears you did jus that. And I never claimed to be a grown up. Your bad. I’m entertaining myself.

Fuck you, you skinny bastard. I’ll tell you what to do, and you’ll like it.

Lol…

Really thou, I agree with you.

The post could read like…

“I’m 6 inches long. When I was 10, my penis was 4”. My goal then was to have 7" because I overheard some older girls giggling about how “big” 7" is. I started jelquing and applying creams, weights and various concoctions and taking pills. Puberty set in and a year or two later, I was a strong and veiny 6". It was nothing to brag about, but it was a strong 6". I soon became exposed to porn and realized my strong and veiny 6" was okay, but it was nothing special compared to those porn stars, so I set a goal of a solid 8". I think I’ve grown a little more and I was wondering…

when do you think you are big enough to stick with a certain size? I dont want to stop! I want to have the biggest dick - functional or not! Some people call this “Bigorexia”, I call it wanting to have a big dick and always wanting more! What are your thoughts?"

LOL just kidding.

hahhaha!

Here is a question that I have been thinking about as I am now on the wrong side of 34. How does a person, who has lifted since his teens with the goal always to get bigger and/or stronger with every workout, handle the inevitable fact that at some point things are going to start going backwards?? I realize that things like this are gradual and one would not notice anything dramatic, however we all know this is out there for each of us…anyway just something to think about. My joints are already telling me that I am probably creeping up to the inflection point…Also maybe this little post will motivate the younger ones to stop farting around. As you were…

Be HAPPY with where you’ve gotten, but dont ever be SATISFIED.

That is why people with foresight know the strategy would be to get as big as possible so that if you do lose size later on due to some “age related” issues, you are STILL bigger than most.

I personally wouldn’t worry. Leave that to the guys who thought they had so much time they could “slow gain” their way to huge.

Lol. You know you will keep checking in on the thread; you just won’t post. Also, there’s no need to appoint yourself as the “grown-up”. If you’re half of his age, you are grown-up by default, unless you see yourself as a child.

To answer the OP, that’s the wrong question to ask. If you truly enjoy getting bigger, you will just keep going until you can’t, or until you lose interest. No need for validation.

I’m 45…I still make strength gains (“unaided”). Size is still the same as far as I, the scale and my clothes can tell. If you’re taking care of yourself and training intelligently, you should have a ways to go before you need to worry. The only thing that’s been a real issue for me the last few years is a nagging knee injury that killed my deadlift and especially squat. I was stubborn and haven’t had it fixed but that can happen at any age.

I’m not seeing all the “hate” for the OP? There was a couple requests for leg shots and thats about it. I can’t see how that is hate? Especially since for me personally, if he stood next to me at essentially the same height, he would look FAR bigger than I am, yet we weigh within 5-10 Lbs of eachother. He has at least admitted to having poor calf genetics. Either way it’s a legitamate question when someone looks THAT big at 6’ 205. All that aside though, half the insults were backhanded compliments. Anyone who can’t read and understand that is either dumb or just a sensitive sally.

I would bet someone a million dollars that if OP put that picture up and asked experienced lifters how much they thought he weighed, at 6’. There would not be one response that got down to 205. Most would be north of 230 and I’d hazzard a few would put him over 250. Now hows that for a backhanded complimnet. OP just so some people realize that I am giving you a compliment, I think a few expereinced people would look at you and say, Wow, dude must be pushing 250, so for what it’s worth, you look big dude. No get on with the leg shot.

Well in that case, why stick around reading 99% bullshit, make real friends with the posters mentioned above and jog on, whilst we all try and chat about our experiences whether they are good or bad ?

I believe its called a community right ?
