When Are You 'Big Enough?'

I m 6’ tall. When I started lifting I was 160lbs. My goal was 175lbs. I was a strong 175lbs benching 375lbs, squatting 405lbs and deadlifting 405lbs for 10 reps. I thought I was something but realized I was nothing special, got bored and set the goal of 195. Got to 195 got bored now Im 205. Bored again now Im reaching for 215.

My question is when do you think you are big enough to stick with a certain weight. I dont want to stop! Some people call this “Bigorexia”, I call it being dedicated and always wanting more! What are your thoughts?

Never

SHUT THE FIZZY FUCK UP!!!

For me, I don’t want to have to wear XXL shirts.

230 @ 6’1" is cool for me.

I was going to make some obnoxious joke about chicks refusing anal…

But if that is you in your avatar, I would feel bad.

Good work dude

are you an upper body whore or something? you look bigger than 205 in that pic

Stop thinking about the end of a journey that will never end. It doesn’t work that way, and I think that’s why a great deal of people will give you shit if they dont understand lifting. It’s about testing yourself and seeing if you can handle the challenge.

I dont go into the gym and think “soon as i hit 220 ill just “maintain”” or “soon as i get a 500 squat ill maintain”.

That kind of mindset wont even get you past the first step of a long journey.

Maybe for a while you might get sick of lifting and pursue some other goal, like doing a one arm pullup or a backflip or some shit while trying to keep your strength. But never is the big picture laid out like a short story with an end page where your physical stats become static.

This mentality is why people fail diets. So many time i get the question “im doing X and X, how long will it take to lose 20lbs” implying that once they lose that 20lbs, they can go back to being shitty.

doesn’t fucking work that way, never will. And if you can’t get past that then try some other hobby out.

First, let me say I am glad someone finally started a thread like this…WHO ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO BE BIG. Anyone talking shit to you is probably just jealous.

As far as this topic, I doubt there really is a finish line, but “big enough” for me is purely about my comfort level. When I weighed 150, my goal was just to get to 180. Once I got there and realized I was still small, my next goal was 200 and so on. I kept going after that because I wanted to see what I could do. I think what I would hate more than anything is waking up over the age of 50 saying, “I wish I would have…”.

All you really have in life are experiences.

Interesting that you - given your attitude elsewhere - think 205 is big at 6’. Does look heavier IMO tho.

I have this theory that people are always 2 years away from their goals…not just in bodybuilding…people always seem to be looking about 2 years into the future…

I think a good majority of people who lift have a distorted perception of their size thinking they are smaller than they are. Also too actually look big at an average height you need to be over 240-250 IMO.

Never.

Your comment makes no sense. You can look at the guy and see he has made more progress (at least as far as his upper body) than even most posting in this thread or even this site apparently. Also, if he is less than 10% body fat, then his “205lbs” is not the same as most average lifters hitting that in body weight alone the first time. My first pics posted here were when I was only 210 so again I am lost by your comment.

My “210” doesn’t look like most of the skinny dudes claiming over 200lbs either.

If you are lifer I think you spend your “able” years trying to get bigger and bigger…and stronger. Then once you reach a certain age you get old and just try to lift what you used to be able to, and try to do your old exercises without it hurting so much.

Its 6am and I havent slept yet so excuse me if I dont make sense.

I like the ‘journey that will never end’ comment. I think for most guys that actually achieve something in the way of results, it’s a back and forth between seeking size and then seeking more definition. The end product being a larger, albeit much more polished ‘stone’ than you originally started with. The downside is that too many people try to polish a smaller stone, only to end up with a shiny pebble, then they become to fascinated by the ‘shiny’ that they never want to continue to seek the change (progress) of becoming larger overall because it will involve getting a bit tarnished.

If Kai Greene is still getting bigger then me too.

Well put.

In the end, I’ll let my comfort level decide.
But to give you a ballpark figure: with my 5’6", I guesstimate it to be somewhat 220-ish, albeit pretty lean.

It’s not gonna happen overnight, though, so I’ll have a few years to work on that.

After that, I’d like to keep the size, increase my strength levels in a certain rep range and improve in terms of endurance and mobility. Maybe pick up Karate where I’d left it more than a decade ago or learn some other martial art.

That’s what I envision for myself.

Sure it makes sense, you generally chastise anyone who isn’t hyoooooge, which makes your comment surprising, and in my mind 205 isn’t really big regardless of bf% at 6’. Yes he looks good, his arms and chest look well developed, but if he really is 205, then he is not big enough yet, as there are other areas to bring up to speed in relation to these good points.

In regular clothes - if you want to look big walking around the general population- I think you need to be 240-250+ at 12% bf or less if you’re around 6’

You don’t understand anything I type if you think people are being “chastised for not being huge”. To go even further and tell me the way I am responding is out of character when you don’t even understand my character is the height of arrogance and ignorance on your part.

How about you actually try understanding exactly what I type from here on out instead of listening to only part of it and making up the rest on your own?

My response here is exactly how I would always respond. If you didn’t know that or understand it, then you clearly haven’t understood shit about what I’ve typed ever.

Better yet, I’ll wait while you find a quote of someone being chastised simply because they weren’t my size or bigger.

The OP is weighing about what I was when I first came to this site only much leaner and a little older. The real question is, why you are trying to down play the progress he’s made. Where are YOUR pictures?

I looked at your profile and for someone so caught up in making it seem like the OP isn’t big enough, you have NO pictures available of how huge you are.
