When Are You 'Big Enough?'

He has at least admitted to having poor calf genetics. Either way it’s a legitamate question when someone looks THAT big at 6’ 205. All that aside though, half the insults were backhanded compliments. Anyone who can’t read and understand that is either dumb or just a sensitive sally.

I would bet someone a million dollars that if OP put that picture up and asked experienced lifters how much they thought he weighed, at 6’. There would not be one response that got down to 205. Most would be north of 230 and I’d hazzard a few would put him over 250. Now hows that for a backhanded complimnet. OP just so some people realize that I am giving you a compliment, I think a few expereinced people would look at you and say, Wow, dude must be pushing 250, so for what it’s worth, you look big dude. No get on with the leg shot.

V
I beg to differ. I see guys on this site all of the time claiming to be 200-210 yet their “210” looks nothing like when I weighed 210lbs. It is about genetics and while the OP is in shape, do you understand how big 250lbs ripped is? He would look like he could stand next to Phil Heath and not look small at all. He looks every bit of around 210 to maybe 220 though, but again this is based on muscle shape.

LOL at “250 ripped”. If you think this guy looks like Lee Haney you are either very inexperienced at seeing bodybuilders with decent genetics or you need glasses. He has big arms. How the hell does that cause some of you to see an extra 50 fucking pounds?

I mean, shit, I may just now be big enough to look that lean at about 240-250 yet you think the OP is about my size in terms of muscularity and bigger?

Personally, I would have put him at about 230, also before he mentioned what his bodyfat was I didn’t know it was about 8%, granted his arms are “rippped” but with a shirt on, I can’t see what his abs look like, etc… I’m just saying if someone said 230 or 240 or 250 I wouldn’t have been surprised, I am surprised with 205. And you are right, Genetics does play a role, but at the same time, I would bank on my legs being bigger than his, seeing as his upper body is so much bigger than mine and we are same height/weight.

And what the comments boil down to, about wanting to see a leg shot, is because I would love to offer constructive criticism. Legs are my strong point and my upper body, Esp my chest is a weakpoint. So if I put my picture up and asked, When is big, big enough, I would expect seasoned vets to say, "well dude, the wheels look nice, but your chest is lagging, so bring that chest up and you will look large AND proportioned. Then we can see if thats big enough. Now if he posts up a leg shot and his legs match the Upper body, All I’m going to say is damn nice work, keep up the good work. However, if his legs look like toothpics, I’m going to say, dood, take a break on every other day arms and chest and focus on your legs for about a year or two. Also then my head won’t explode because I looked at him and he said 6’ 205.

Also just for a frame of reference, the kid who got me into lifting, is a big sumabitch, 6’ 250-280 depending on his bulk/cut cycle. OP looks bigger than my buddy, at least from an upper body standpoint. So it’s not like I’m sitting in a bubble here just looking at myself in the mirror and comparing this guys physique to mine. I have other frames of reference of people I know very well.

All I’m saying X is that at least for me, I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful when I asked for leg shots, and I don’t think anyone else was either, he just doesn’t look 205 at 6’.

Once again, you haven’t seen too many in shape 230lbs bodybuilders if he looks that heavy to you. Most guys competing at 230lbs are weighing over 260-280 in the off season (with some over 300lbs). The op has big arms but he does not look that thick elsewhere. Your perception is off.

But…this thread was not started for you to critique the OP, to question his legs or anything else. That had NOTHING at all to do with this discussion. It boils down to ignoring the thread topic and taking it upon yourself to look for fault with the OP simply because it bothers you on some level that he looks like that at 205lbs. I doubt his arms are over 18" so why not just engage in the actual discussion and leave his legs alone?

That just means they have weaker genetics for muscle shape and size. Once again, I have seen many guys who claim they are 210lbs on this site and even if leaner do not look as muscular as I did at 210lbs. I mean, look at Lewhitehurst on this site. I see few who look that filled out at his body weight.

You just need to get out more. He looks like he does weigh what he stated.

I have also posted pics (once again) of a guy who competes in NPC at 185lbs but LOOKS 220lbs.

That’s all well and good…but most of the people asking that in this thread do NOT look developed themselves to any degree above “mediocre” or “average”…which causes me to ask why the hell they care about whether his legs measure up when their entire bodies don’t.

I’ll state it again…on a site like this where we SHOULD be encouraging the guys who stand out, the first reaction around here seems to be to look for a fault instead of congratulating.

They did it to Gifted on this site (Brandon Curry). They act like I am obese at all times even if some are just joking…then you all wonder why bigger guys avoid this forum like the plague.

Those people are why.

If you ever wonder why there aren’t bigger lifters in the T-Cell…the reason is the rest left because of the funky attitude of weaker fuckers on this site.

Woah dood, relax. First off, if you are considering OP to be “one of the bigger guys” then throw me in there as well. Or, does weight not matter, and only how big someones arms are? If his arms are 18 and mine are 16 but my thigh measurement is 28 and his is 25 who is bigger? What if my calves measure 18 and his measure 14? If OP is asking what is big enough and he posts a 20+ inch arm (there is no way that is under 20) and he then lists his height and weight at 6’ 205, then I’m going to say, Your ARMS are big enough when your arms are as big as your thighs, your thighs need to get bigger and your calves need to get bigger, etc…

I know you are a medical professional, so there is only a few ways he could look THAT much bigger than I do, and weight the same. #1, he is smaller in other areas we can’t see. #2 I am more dense than he is, be it bone and or muscle, for whatever reason, my density is higher than his. #3 he is an alien wearing a human exoskeleton and his insides are hollow except for a little green guy pulling levers.

Granted, the line of questioning isn’t exactly 100% in line with what the OP asked, but who fucking cares, it wasn’t a total hi-jack, and like I said before, the OP should take it as a compliment and potentially criticism. We are saying we are shocked that he ONLY weighs 205 for the exact reasons you said. How many guys post up a pic, 6’ 210 and look average. When someone posts a pic where they look jacked and somehow have the same stats as the “average” guys people are going to question it.

His arms do not appear to be 20" at all. MY arms are over 20". Like I said, your perception is WAY the fuck off. This is also not about excluding you. It is about the reaction to bigger guys on this site. The first reaction is to question, degrade or act like steroids are the only reason they got that big.

Many of the people on this site are WORSE than any sedentary people in the general public.

Well, I am not sure the OP sees all of this as a “compliment”. Many of you seem to be very skewed in your perception…like you thinking this guys arms are over 20".

Well hopefully he takes an arm measurement and lets us all know. I’d say he do it right after arm training as in this picture he took so he has a good pump.

Lets agree on something here. If he posts his arm size and it’s 19.5 or over then I’m right, if it’s 19.49 or lower than you are right. (you said 18, I said 20 19.5 is the midway)

If I’m right you will apologise to me for saying my perception is skewed :frowning: “big meanie”

If you are right, I’ll apologize to OP for asking for legs, I’ll apologize to you and the rest of the forum for helping to hi-jack a thread. AND I’ll apologize to the little kid I knocked over because I was mad at you and just had to take it out on somebody.

Sound good?

I appreciate that. People seem to react to me differently now that I am trying to lean up. I get approached more lately. I think I scared people off before.

Either way, I still have a long way to go and it is quite a battle doing a 180 and going in the complete opposite direction in terms of goals than I have for the past 10 years. Now I often worry if I am eating too much instead of not enough.

Lean enough to look good at a pool party.

I am not trying to go for much more than that right now. I just don’t want to be as smooth as I was at this point in my life. It helped me reach a goal but I think it is time to truly look in a way that really shows the effort I put in.

I will probably put the breaks on if I end up near 250 though.

I agree with bodyguard, but that hat needs to go, lol.

What irritates me sometimes is when family/friends tell you that you are big enough and don’t need to get any bigger…that is something that I shall decide. I’m not doing this just to look in shape, or, to not be skinny. That was my initial goal. But now that I’m not skinny anymore, like the OP said, I want more.

It could be said that it’s the journey to a destination that’s the good bit, rather than just the outcome itself. Of course, I’ll be proud when I’ve reached 250ish pounds or so, but that won’t make me feel content.

Insecurity drove to me to start with, but it’s moreso an “obsession” now. Touching on what TheBodyGuard said, I do feel inadequate sometimes, and I probably show this in my bodylanguage, it’s just my nature. I don’t often workout in public gyms, and when I went the other week to one, and saw someone “that looks like they lift” (thanks for that saying PX lol), as usual I showed them a certain level of respect/admiration/aww and give them “plenty space”. When driving home my brother questioned my mannerism and said that I was a lot more developed than this guy (not that one shouldn’t just respect all people lol). So in that sense, I kind of understand bigorexia (feeling small around people).

Although to clarify, my type of insecurity is a form of inferiority (viewing others as better/bigger…etc), not the negative type that makes twats put others down just to make themselves feel better.

Sometimes it actually feels good to know that you are not the only one who has heard these types of comments or experienced these types of reactions.
