What's your max bench?

Dumbell 120x8 (My gym only has 120’s)

damn, i bench like a third grader. at 170lb. 210X3. 18 years old. Last year i close gripped 220x2 at 150lb

I’m 5’5", 170lbs. When I was lifting heavy before I started muay thai a couple of months ago, I could get 250lbs for 4.

we all bench like a third grader when you compare us to someone else. Always remember there is someone out there faster, and stronger. Keeps you motivated. Keep up the good work you are doing well. You are right behind me.

What’s the accepted conception of a “pause” here? Just curious.

Before my entrance to MMA training: 425. Currently: about 320.

Bodyweight: 165, DB:95x4, BB: dunno, 220 or so. I feel like a pussy under the bar, I think my shoulders and tris are weak, so I generally only do flat or incline with dumbbells

Flat Bench - 330ib. at the peak of my last Mag-10 cycle. Bodyweight 192. Age 40. When I was 20 I could do 365 at a bodyweight of 235. Hey I’m not slipping that much…

Weight=190 Barbell=350 Dumbell=130

I’m in the Older Lifter Club: age 39, 6’2, BW-265, 24%bf(working on that). Last max bench day went like this:


135x10, 225x10, 275x5, 300x5, 315x3, 335x3, 355x1, 365x1, 375x failed


I was pretty happy with that as I just came off a 5x5 program. Oh yeah, it was raw, not wearing any gear. No bouncey Bouncey

Before I blew out my shoulder and wrists I got 385 on a barbell, strict at about 185 lbs

Now, I can’t do flat too well, use 120’s on inclines for a couple sets of 10-12 slow,… have hit 275 as a work weight on incline barbells, could probably do 315 if I weren’t concerned bout my shoulder… Getting old -lol

Bench Max: ~265 raw

Bodyweight: ~185 (usually 180, diets been lacking lately due to finals and what not.) :-\

Perhaps someone can tell me if this is a muscle imbalance, or just a technique problem. Even in HS, I was squatting 400+. My max bench in HS was 225. Even now, when I do work bench, I can use 225 for 5X5, but I know my max can’t be much higher then 260 or so. I workout by myself, so I don’t feel like testing, and I rarely do bench. Ussually oly lifts. Is there a reason for this huge imbalance between the numbers though? In HS, there were 2 other kids my age that could squat that much. But there were TONS of kids benching way more then me, but they couldn’t squat…

Hello - I did my personal best last night. It was 205 lbs for 5 reps. Im 6’ tall and a little under 200 lbs. I know its pretty weak compared to alot of those guys that posted. But im pretty happy with the result after 2 years, well 1 year since the first year I did HIT and never went anywhere.

Coming back from a shoulder injury. Lat night I was able to bench 6x225, 5x245,2x265 and 1x275 .Probably could have done more, but my bicep started cramping up as a result of MMA training the night before. Did incline flies 5x80 a few weeks ago, could probably go up to 90-95.

I know what you mean about imbalance in lifts. I am 38 years old. Training for 2 years. serious about diet, supplements etc. No drugs or pro-steroids. I have the same problem as you. I can deadlift 405 for 3 sets of 2, squat 385 for 3 sets of 3 yet only recently can I say that on bench day I will always get 225 for any kind of reps. The fellow that introduced me to training was of the opinion that everyone has a lift that seems more natural to them than certain other lifts. I have always struggled with bench yet the squat (deep squat at that) and deadlift seem to happen more easily for me.

Oh ya…max bench. Back in the spring did a very ugly single with 265. I have not tried it since.

Jason: how did you get involved in MMAs? I would like to start training . . .

Dr. D & Darkhand: Great numbers. I was curious to know if you have used or currently use any drugs (steriods, pro-steroids or pro-hormones)?
