What's Your Ape-Index?

I don’t know who started the ape-index. Something tells me it was a rock-climbing thing.

Anyway you measure your wing-span from finger-tip to finger-tip and compare it to your height.

So I have a +4" ape-index because I am 72 inches tall and my wingspan is 76 inches. I’m a fockin gorilla.

I’m betting that this is bad leverage for a bench and good leverege for a DL.

So what’s your ape-index?

I’ve got 77.5 from tip to tip and 75 inches tall. Or 1.0333…

Time for my .9 banana now.

This orangatan has a 4-1/4" surplus and yes, velly, velly bad for bench press.

I’ve heard it used in reference to olympic swimmers. Their wingspan is something like 6 inches greater than height.
Mine is almost dead even at 69.5 inches tall, and 70 inch wingspan.

“…Olympic Simmers”

That’s interesting. I was always a good swimmer. Even as a chubby 12 year old I was scoring gold medals.

My bench has actually been getting better these days though. I used to not do it because of shoulder pain, so instead I did dumbell presses with 70lb d-bells.

But I recently learned how to bench without shoulder pain in one of Robertson’s articles and now I can probably max like 220lbs at 200lbs bodyweight. It’s exciting cause I feel like I still have a lot of growth potential.
