Anyone have any BP tips for guys with long arms? I’m 72" tall and 76 1/4" from fingertip to fingertip. Please keep the orangutan and ape jokes to a minimum LOL.
Wider grip. Be sure to have your chest pushed out w/ a slight arch in your back.
I have the exact same problem. For the training, I use a closer grip because nothing is going to change the long arms/simian mechanics, and take a wide grip for the heavy lifts. You gotta work extra hard on your BP muscles, that’s all.
I’ve been researching the same thing. Just mentioned in one of my other posts about the video tapes I ordered. I’m hoping they’ll shed some light on this.

I haven’t seen that article yet.
Thats pretty funny because my buddy I lift with is 6’6" we call him lurch sometimes.
I am 76 1/4 inchs tall and have a 79" finger tip to finger tip reach. I can not bench press at all.
Reality for myself is:
To do bench cycles with only a pound or two increase with each cycle. We are not Ted Arcini who increased his bench about 5 lbs a week for a year.
A tall guy I lift with uses the elbows tucked, land the bar right at the zyphoid process(where ribs part),and move the bar in an upward arc.Almost like a decline press, but the plane of movement is rotated to zero degrees. The moderate grip allows more use of his tris and front delts rather than pect.Shortening distance through wide grip may reduce the ability to use these groups to a greater abvantage. That and the one through five board press, and practice getting off bottom. thats where he has the least mechanical advantage.
good luck and keep us posted.
