What's the Deal With Diet Drinks?

hey im new to the forum, but some what experienced when it comes to working out and nutrition but something that has always been on my mind is diet drinks. let me give you an example
Diet 7up

calories 0
fat 0
sodium 45mg
carbs 0

per can

could anyone let me know the deal with these drinks, thanks

What’s the deal, as in, should you avoid drinking them? They aren’t the worst thing in the world and are better than regular soft drinks, but given all the artificial crap in them and the effect they can have on your teeth, you are better off sticking to plain water and green tea. Or milk, of course.

The deal is they are probably one of the last things you should worry about.

I drink them all of the time and have never had a problem getting leaner.

I’d much rather have a diet soda than milk, too.

So long as your not slugging a few litres a day don’t sweat it. They are a nice treat. I love me some diet cherry coke!!

people say the aspertame is bad for you and gives you brain tumours and shit but tons of crap is bad, maybe like 3 cans or so a week, wont be a problem whatsoever

since aspartame is actually metabolized, i’d avoid aspartame (especially large doeses of it) when insulin sensitivity is heightened (this is post-workout). Sucralose on the other hand is poorly metabolized if at all, so it’s the preferred artifical sweetener. of course, stevia is better, but it isn’t as tasty as sucralose (splenda).

I cut out all diet softdrinks a few months ago.

I’ve being hearing some really nasty things about sodium benzoate lately and don’t really want to take the chance.

Once I stop drinking them, I lose the taste for them anyway.

i totlay agree, i just can’t pallet fizzy drinks now, feels like i’m drinking liquid sugar. yuc

If your diet is so dialed in that diet soda is the only bad thing left in your diet, then maybe it’s time to think about cutting it out. Until then, there’s plenty of other shit to worry about rather than a calorie free drink. Look at the bigger picture.

I drink 2-3 cans a day, and I still drift in and out of ketosis at will. Four cans of Diet Mt Dew = more caffeine than a dose of old-school ECA. Keep in mind, it’s not a replacement for water. You still have to drink your gallon.
