What's Everyones Sporting Background?

Started Judo when I was eight and transitioned to a variety of styles as I got older.

Soccer and swimming until HS

Football (LB, DE, TE), Wrestling (135, 145) and Lacrosse (long stick middie, goalie) in HS

Went to Prison and got in a lot of fights - only stabbed five times (I think the guards considered it a sport) and then did the Boot Camp program which pretty much consisted of six months of having sadistic “drill instructors” try and PT you until you quit. Outside in shorts and t-shirts. In February. I didn’t quit.

Rugby Union every spring and fall from age 23 to 31 with a few summers of League and Sevens thrown in for good measure. Started off in D3 as a winger, got on da 'roids (t-mag showed me how) in my late twenties and ended up weighing 245 and playing on the front row in the D1/Superleague.

Multiple broken bones, sprains, stitches, three knee surgeries and two screws in my shoulder and I finally hung up the boots.

I still do Martial Arts (Koryu styles) and I sail competitively with the Annapolis Yacht Club. My weight is down to 190 to 200 - any heavier than that and my knees hurt all the time.

I suppose one could consider my pursuit of the fairer sex to be “sport” at certain phases of my life… LOL

What class? I neglected to list competitive sailing in my previous post, maybe because I don’t consider it a sport in the same class as field hockey or rugby. Although I’ve taken some hard knocks from the boom, and tore my right trap setting the spinnaker pole. Here’s my J24 in action:

badminton.

I did gymnastics from age 5-12. Got too tall, apparently gymnastics isn’t meant for guys 6’2".
Played basketball from about age 7-16.
Ran cross country from age 15-18. 18:30 5K
Ran track from 13-28. Continually debate on whether or not I should start again.

Track PR’s
100m = 11.10
110HH = 14.59
200m = 22.42
400m = 47.5
400mH = 53.54
1500m = 4:30.3
Long Jump = 23’ 2"
High Jump = 6’ 9.5"
Pole Vault 15’ 5"
Shot Put (16lbs) = 41’ 10.75"
Discus (2Kg) = 128’ 3"
Javelin (800g) = 168’ 11"

Whoa now!!!

I live in Europe and we don’t really have high school programs here.
We just get 2 hours of physical education here per week, so we do our sports outside of school.

I played basketball from 11-14 years, then got lazy and stopped with sports for a year orso.
15/16 years old started with thaiboxing and went on to do MMA after 2 years of 5 days a week thaiboxing.

I got to know Brazilian jiu jitsu through MMA and now I get 3 BJJ training sessions each week and 3 times I go to the gym.

MMA and BJJ have been the hardest things I have ever done and still do, BJJ gets me more physically (in terms of power) while MMA really wears me out conditionally.

i was on the high school swim team in 10th and 11th grade.

it was awesome

oh yeah I forgot… I’m a pretty bad ass skier. thats kind of like a sport right?
I don’t ski or snowboard often but when I do I know I feel it in my legs the next day. Definitely can be a sport when you don’t fall down every 20feet.
and by bad ass I mean I can go without falling down ever 20feet :)
I was clocked at 40 mph on a snowboard, that was the scariest events in my life.
Soulja874 wrote:
I’m always the darkest human on the mountain when I go snowboarding.
I go blacked out, even my goggles are black, and so is my ski mask I hate cold on my face. Although I know that is dangerous, if I get hurt, so I had the liner of my jacket the brightest neon orange I could get. However, when I snowboard I am the largest human being except when those gross blobs decided to rent some ski’s and eat shit and do the slips all day.

I must be going to the wrong mountains (not that it really matters). All I’ve seen is the occasional Hawaiian.
20 years on the slopes and I’ve never seen one of those. Then again, our slopes here are some of the worst in the world.

Down hill ice rinks with trees.

You should come to Flagstaff, we got Samoans on snowboards and shit, those guys are good. I didn’t figure the snowboard would have a good carry over, but it does.

Shit! Me thinks you should start again. How many points is that worth? What’s up with the Discus? 128 doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the marks.

No offence AC, but you sound like one tough, mean SOB. Rugby, MA and prison, that must be the trifecta.
