What Now? Dead End?

Hello everyone ,

its been quite some time since i started to train for the first time in my life(~1.5 year ago).I began extremely fat (130kg of pure fatness) and i started training like crazy at 18(I THOUGHT I WAS BACK THEN LOL).I lost some weight made it to around 90kg not even knowing anything about working out and following other peoples advice(kinda like Schwazzeneger going nowhere training).

I remember myself wanting to change my body after a life eating candies and chocolates looking like shit and after some rough exams i had participated into to become a part in the medical field.(i made it by the way  ).Then as time passed by i said f*** this ,it is going nowhere and really it wasnt!I then learned about how the â??prosâ?? training was pure BS for a begginer like I was.

It was then when i started searching all over the net for information and i learned some thing about â??bodybuildingâ??.It was when i took the bar on my shoulders and started to squat (i learned it all by myself) where i began to see some gains. Now,today after some time off from serious training,im very fat and weak as always :frowning: .I weight 107 kg with 30-32% bodyfat 43 inch waist and look and feel like shit.

I can squat around 150kg8reps(best pr ever set) but the upper body doesnt seem to respond so well to training (82kg10 bench,50kg10 standing overhead press and 120kg10 cheated bent over rows). Now the reason i write this is â??what now?â??.I am so weak i have to build a foundation of strength+muscle but also i m very fat and cant afford more bodyweight.

I cant even find any decent clothes for my lower body.I forgot to tell i am kind of short (1,7m) and i was always fat (since 6-8years old and i am 19 now turning 20 soon).Should i go on a diet now and until what bodyfat to start gaining again? The other problem i have is that as i got stronger i cant find a place to squat now!

The gym i go now has 170kg max for the olympic bar!(lol)The only solution would be to go to a weightlifting gym and tell them to let me train with oly lifters but there are only olympic bars and squat stands there. So if anyone could help me on what to do now i could be grateful.

PS I can give any other info you like +pics of bodyparts.
PS2.Damn you Americans! Those gyms of yours are perfect! In Europe i cannot even find a gym with a squat rack.I learned what a squat is from the net.Wtf is going on here?

some various pics Imgur: The magic of the Internet

  1. It has not been “quite some time since you started lifting.” A year and a half is not a long time.

  2. Gains in the gym take a long time, but they will always come (especially to someone out of shape) if you keep eating right, and lift consistently and with intensity. I don’t know what your workouts look like, but all your PR’s are listed as 8 and 10 rep PR’s. If you’re looking to get stronger, do less reps per set sometimes.

You can also add in some Oly-type lifts, starting with cleans. Power cleans are not that difficult to learn. You could also do front squats, 170kg is MORE than enough for that to be difficult. As far as dieting down now, that’s up to you and your priorities.

One other thing: since you said you taught yourself to squat, I’d recommend posting a video. This is nothing personal AT ALL, but nobody squats well without help. Nobody. Ever. If you’re not going deep on squats, you should be able to lower the weight you’re using and get more out of it. This would help with your gym issues.

Hope this helps!

I would go to the weightlifting gym. Bench pressing isn’t that important.

Something you need to realize, it’s not that your upper body isn’t responding. It’s that your squat is going to be a lot stronger since you are short and have a big gut. This gives you a lot of leverage. As you lose weight, you will lose this leverage, and your squat will suffer.

As for advice, you need to get on an intellegent lifting program, learn how to eat, and take conditioning seriously.

Lifting programs: any kind of 5x5 program, 5/3/1, Juggernaut method, WS4SB, or search the “do this routine instead of that dumb one” thread.

Eating: at every meal, eat a large piece of meat (or eggs), a serving of vegetables, and a piece of fruit. If you are still hungry, have a healthy carb source. Drink a lot of water.

Conditioning: sprints, hill sprints, prowler/sleds, pushing cars, running (like a timed 1 mile run), suicides

Don’t forget to stretch. Good luck.

Where in europa are you from?
