second that, only clean would be 1.5x just like bench. i can clean my bw easy, and jerk it, but nowhere near a 1x strict press.
1x press, snatch
1.5x bench, clean
2x squat, dead

A lot of people are putting the same value for Squats and Deadlifts, but I’ve never seen someone squat (below parallel) as much as they deadlift. To me a 2x bodyweight squat is far more impressive than a 2x bodyweight deadlift.
Well I am 5’8" 185lbs and consider myself to be strong. In the gym I have pulled 525 raw w/belt, squatted 525 raw w/belt, and benched 355 raw. The bench was a touch and go, not a pause, the squat was legit depth, and the pull was not hitched. In powerlifting gear of course all those numbers are inflated. I consider myself to be strong for height and weight. I am switching from doing geared meets to raw ones because I believe my raw numbers are better on average than my geared numbers. If I see someone in the gym around my height and weight do within 25-35lbs and with good form then I am pretty impressed. I have seen much better than myself and it does not help that I have lived with Ashley Awalt. She sure can humble a male powerlifter.
There was an imbalances article on here i cant find, that compared strengths per lift - ie. if you can squat x lbs, your DL should be x lbs. anyway, i converted it all to excel if anyone wants it

Here is a good gauge of what I believe most people would consider a STRONG person. these numbers are not eye popping but to the average joe these would be impressive:
15 pull ups
315 bench press (something about that magical 3rd plate in most gyms will turn heads)
405 squat
405 dead
115 lb dumbell rows
100+ lb dumbell incline
curls are a bad exercise to judge since someone using much less weight could be working much harder than someone jerking around a lot of weight.
well to be honest If I saw a 185lber lifts these weight I would be impressed
250+ bench
315+ squat
405+ deadlift
I would not say there “strong” but I would be IMPRESSED.
Mine is something like that, Bench is 285, squat is 385 i did 4 plates but wasn’t happy with my depth so i dont count it,and dead is 465. i’m kinda going between 180-185.

Haha. I can hit 18 chins, rep 405 on deadlift, and easily row 115 kroc style.
But I’m Nowhere close for squat or bench lifts!
Unsurprisingly, I have big hamstrings and huge ass and a solid back- but unremarkable chest, arms, and quads.
I don’t consider myself strong yet though and when it comes down to it I don’t look particularly strong. Personally, when I can hit an ass to grass front squat with 365, hit my 5 plate deadlift, and throw up the 120s on db bench press, I will feel I can call mysef strong and have a muscle base to back it up.
To me it’s all relative, if you think you are strong than that is good enough for me… There are to many variable’s for this; age, yrs lifting, weight, height, gym consistency and what about injuries and so forth.
I bench 345 for 3, squat 400 for 1, DL 405 for 1, DB ROW 125x5, 15 bw chin-ups.
I am 5’5" 197, 32yrs old and have been lifting for awhile… I have a few lagging injuries, right pec, two torn rotator cuffs and a bad left knee.
All that aside… I think I am average or below. I see young kids and guys older than myself lifting way heavier than me. I think I am strong compared to the everyday joe but not anywhere close to the gym going BOI.
The funny thing is, when I started lifting again a few yrs ago, I thought to myself 225 bench, 300 squat, 300 DL, for sets and reps was way strong. Then I got there and was like “this is weak”. I also thought 315 on bench was hella strong, then I hit it and thought this is weak. I want a 350 bench, 405 for sets n reps, 400 squat for sets and reps, weighted chin ups 50lbs x20, but when I get there most likely those numbers will be weak.
you just added to my point… Everyone has their own opinion on what is strong. I agree with you, IMO a 700 DL is strong, but where does strong begin. I bet there are some guys here looking at my numbers posted above thinking that they are not stong numbers for my weight and time lifting, yet I have friends that think I am Hurcules.

Well considering the “average” person doesn’t lift its strong. If you’ve been lifting for a year you should be above those, yes. Considering the “average” person cant lift half of that yes its strong. How we talking average world of your age group. Because 80% the population are pretty poor you’d be very strong for those lifts.
I don’t know many two-hundred pounders that can not bench half of their bodyweight.
Back when I was weighing 74 kg, I could do (at least) 125 kg on the bench press and pulled a 180 kg deadlift. I never considered this to be particularily strong, since lots of people were outlifting me in my gym. I guess I didn’t consider the fact that they were also outweighing me, seeing as I’m considered advanced by some of the charts mentioned (deadlift 2.4xBW, bench 1.7xBW). As for squats, I don’t know, as I was still neglecting them at that time.
So just out of curiosity, what would YOU consider competitive if I were to drop weight towards the 165 lbs mark again, from a powerlifters point of view?
