What is Big After All?

I’d rather see you learn a few things than actually leave which doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have bodybuilding goals, but Professor X is right and not just about you.

Every time size is the subject the non size guys find it necessary to tell us how we should view our discipline. The only thing I care about what the general public thinks is that they immediately know they’ve run into somebody who trains. I’m working on that and getting there. Good God dude, If appealing to the public were the goal I’d have to starve myself and run 20 miles a day to be “in style”. Nobody chases anybody else around telling them how silly their views are except where bodybuilding is the topic.

I haven’t had a lot in common with you in the past and have found some of the advice you’ve given to be entirely disagreeable, but in spite of that I’d find it unfortunate if you just up and left.

I wouldn’t.

You know that I share your mindset on training just about about up and down the line, but that’s pretty rough. On the other hand if he pouts, picks up his marbles and goes home then he has bigger problems. No non official is running me off a website I want to participate in. So, I guess if he really does leave he proves you right.

This is true…so why cuddle these morons? A discussion can’t even take place on this board about gaining strength and size without the input of someone who hasn’t made any progress since Bush Sr. was in the White House. If you want for that to stop, then quit making it ok for it to continue.

I could see your stance if the person in question had the slightest motivation to actually make some progress, but that is not the case here.

There are too many of these guys who log in just so they can talk theory even though they haven’t experienced anything at all and don’t even want to.

Ah, if bodybuilding is the case, then that’s true. In any case, I was just providing a different point of view.

Why wouldn’t it be the case? What is the deal with some of you trying so hard to NOT see this as a bodybuilding website? This isn’t even the first time you’ve done this. We can’t even escape you jackasses in the BODYBUILDING forum of this BODYBUILDING WEBSITE.

And why are you making such a big deal about a different point of view? Does EVERYTHING in the BODYBUILDING FORUM have to be in the CONTEXT of BODYBUILDING? Is the NO more room for some food for thought? Should we all just SHUT UP if anything we have to say has NOTHING to do with BODYBUILDING?

If the answers to ALL of these are a RESOUNDING YES, then I must have jointed this website for the wrong reasons.
I am tiny, people make comments on about me being “big” and its hard for me not to laugh. Now when I compete at strongman I am damn near the smallest person there, even in my own weight class.

Why compare myself to normal non gym going people or people that just “workout”? That is doing nothing but setting yourself up for mediocrity and who wants that? I compare myself to the top LW strongmen in the country. If you are into Olympic weightlifting than you should compare yourself to the top lifters in the weight class you plan on competing in.

Same goes for people with primarily bodybuilding goals.

I think he’ll be back. I read some of his posts and even saw his training log. He has surprisingly sound advice for a guy that small and inexperienced. I think he loves training and this site. I don’t think he’ll just leave for an argument like this. Maybe he’s on vacation.

I never left. That would be really stupid and would prove to the Prof that I am the idiot he thinks I am.

I’m just pissed that a simple out of context comment would be bloated by X. I’ve been commenting in the beginners and strength forums in a similar fashion, and people either let them go, appreciate them, or cordially argue. All of a sudden, X makes a big fuss about everything, attacks me on a personal level, calls me a moron, claims that I’m an attention-grabber, slaps at my training progress, and why? Because I’m 150 pounds and I made a comment he doesn’t appreciate.

Oh, and I’ve made progress, not in bodybuilding but in my quest for strength and a dunk, but I guess that wouldn’t matter in a bodybuilding forum, making me pathetic in X’s point of view.

All of this could’ve been avoided if he chose his words to be more civilized, but no. He just had to bully me.

So here’s what I’m gonna do. I’m still gonna be part of the forums, but not as much. I’ll avoid hot-headed people like X and stay where I am appreciated.

It’s not that I can even disagree with any of this, except the cuddling, no cuddling for me. I would like to wave a wand and have the world full of guys who want to populate the globe with specimens of intimidating largeness. Especially in this country. Alas it is not so and I just don’t feel right about encouraging people to leave here, at least intentionally.

There’s a couple guys I’m pretty sure disappeared because of me, one of them despite my efforts to be completely friendly, even in PM,s. Oh man, you would’ve loved this guy. A true warrior in the crusade against gaining even 4 adipose cells in the quest for muscle. He looked pretty good too, but had lotsa room left that would never be realized due to his dainty eating habits, but that wasn’t good enough. He made it his life’s mission to see to it that nobody else ate an untrimmed steak again either. There I go on another tangent.

That’s the way I see it whether I like it or not.

If undeadlift’s goal was truly to get some eye opening point across, he would be more focused on your post and less focused on his public display of internet tears.

Personally, those empty worded people are the cancer that is killing the bodybuilding aspect of this site.

Bingo.

I don’t mean to ask a stupid question, but do all the people in this bodybuilding forum want to have bodybuilder-ish physiques? I mean I’m sure there are people in this forum who just want to look good in the beach or look good nekkid.

Answer this first;
Do you think the method is different between the two when it comes to reaching that goal?

“Building” your “Body”.

“Body”+“Building”.

Bodybuilding.

How do you define a “bodybuilder-ish physique”? There’s a lot more to bodybuilding than Mr. Olympia.

Lots of lean mass, proportion, separation… all of which are almost impossible to obtain without becoming bigger and heavier.

You think some guy who wants “
to look good in the beach or look good nekkid
” is going to do that without GAINING any muscle mass which would usually involve getting bigger and heavier? You think they would “
look good nekkid
” without being in proportion?

I’m glad someone said it. You talk about training and diet with someone and they say “nah man I just want to look good not be all buffed”. It’s not like progressive training and big eating is going to make you completely bypass that lean underwear/fitness model look along the way. If you two twins are both 165 lb untrained individuals, one wants to be 190 and lean and the other 240 and lean do they have to do drastically different things?.One just has a lot longer to go in order to reach his goals, they can use the same exact plan to get there. One might take a 1-2 years, the other 3-6 years.

This is one of the points that drives me craziest. Most of the “I don’t wanna be huge” guys will never even look good nekkid.

I think there is a divide between those who want to get bigger and those who want to get big. While there is significant overlap, this divide seems to invite vitriol. Perhaps there should be another forum topic. Perhaps something as simple as ‘Intermediate’.
