The article above is about how people are
(finally!) waking up to the realization that
high carb "diets" don't work, and that the
food pyramid is completely wrong.
I had to post this partly because I find it
really funny (yes I have a sardonic sense of
humor sometimes), and partly because I need
somewhere to vent about it. If I wasn't
laughing about it, it would be depressing
how inanely clueless americans are about diet
and nutrition.
Partly I'm amazed that a mainstream media
outlet like the NYT actually got something
right at all on this topic. OTOH, I'm amazed
that it took them this long to question the
dysfunctional status quo.
I think I completely understand how people
like TC and Chris must feel when bombarded
by ignorance and errors about nutrition and
training, compared to what they publish on
T-mag. Oh well, at least it has entertainment
value.
I completely agree. I thought it was refreshing to see a well written article in a publication like the NY Times. I hope some people take it seriously and start experimenting. One of the things that pisses me off more than anything are these folks that argue, until they’re blue in the face, that the lowfat way is the ONLY way, yet they won’t even TRY a higher protein/fat diet because they think even two months of it will damage their health. It’s ridiculous. The school of thought that any carbs are ‘ok’ as long as they’re low in fat is absurd. People just don’t want to entertain the thought of having to give up their Coco Pebbles simply because they are lazy.
It certainly is amazing, isn’t it! The “food pyramid”?!? What a freaking JOKE! All of the advancements that we have made with nutritional knowledge and application…and year after year the food pyramid remains the SAME. Hell, it would be more as effective if you flipped the damn thing upside-down.
The thing that pisses me off is that they are still teaching the food pyramid to kids in public schools. These kids grow up thinking that wonderbread and breakfast cereal are better for them than a steak. Don’t forget that since there is no fat in cereal it won’t make you fat, haha!
I am sure you enjoyed 20/20 last night. Where the media was held up to a dim bulb about how they over play things in a effort to create news.
Always monitior results, check references (don’t just look at the footnotes get out the quoted sources and read them. You would be surprized how many things are miss quoted or taken out of context) and be your own T-man.
Best of Luck.
you know what is amazing to me about this so called food pyramid, is the unbelievably high recommendation of carbs. 6-11 servings what the hell is that. i mean that is even high for someone that is bodybuilding or engaging in strenuous activity. let alone the average fat guy who sits on his couch all day wondering why he cant reach his cock anymore. on a serious note. what is alarming is that diabetes type II is going up at a record pace. it has basically become an epidemic in this country. i believe that the food pyramid is partly responsible for for this. what do you guys think?
Does it drive anyone else crazy how 95% of people try dieting without having any concept behind the diet and then they don’t get results? People ask me all the time what I do and they just assume that I’m naturally gifted and workout, but I have to tell them that I I spend 60% of my energy on maximizing my diet. Are the masses just that stupid? They go to nutritionists who themselves are like 15 lbs overweight and then ask what them what they should be eating! Many friends of mine asked if I saw the article as if it was a revolutionary new finding! It’s just unreal. Can anyone see why this happens? Are the masses are just that unmotivated, insecure, uneducated and/or passive?
