Squats looked deep enough. If anyone read my article on raw squatting you’ll see what I was talking about on your 2nd and 3rd reps of the first video. You have the strength to move that weight pretty easily, however you can see from the side that the bar moves out from the center of your body, away from your power path. I bet money that on those reps you felt the weight move onto the front of your feet didn’t you? I would concentrate on making sure you keep your arch harder and push through your heels more. You’ll nail 5+ reps in no time if you do that.
good job on the strict press. looked easy.
as for the squat, you are “chicken winging” as you come out of the hole. what that means is you are allowing your elbows to drift back which in turn puts the weight in front of your hips instead of keeping it centered over the hips. I’ve spent a lot of time perfecting the squat and that was the biggest thing i’ve worked on. you need to get those elbows under the bar and as you drive out of the hole you want to force them forward. when i’m training folks on the squat i have them pretend that there are cables attached to their elbows and as they drive out of the hole someone is pulling the elbows forward with the cables.
that low bar position that you have really makes it hard to keep the elbows down. that’s one of the reasons why i switched to a higher bar position- it’s easier to keep the elbows under the bar. the lower the bar, the more you have to actively force the elbows down and forward. my arms would ache horribly for weeks after a heavy squat with low bar position.

Thanks for this. Will work on my arch and staying in the proper path. Was the article you wrote posted on this site or a different one?

It certainly did not feel easy. Thanks ![]()
Learn something new everyday. Thanks, I had never heard of “chicken winging” lol. Thanks again.

It’s on my blog. MM also touched on the elbow issue. I address the elbow problem in it as well.
Looks like my journey to reach those goals have hit a stumbling block. Just found out that I’m going to have to make my own gym downrange. No gym facilities where I’m going. No weights, no nothing. This is going to be an expensive year. Any suggestions on where I can order the necessities online, that will ship to APO addresses??

For the most part Iâ??ve been building mine over years, picking up deals when I find something someone is getting rid off.
Got a used cage, got mats when my gym replaced their floor, got a bench for just hauling it off, ect.
Doesnâ??t sound like thatâ??s going to work for you though.
Texas strength systems has some used powerbars on sale for cheap:
http://www.texasstrengthsystems.com/salesstrengthequipment.html
Thanks for the link. I’ll definitely be scouring the net for sales and such. I’m also going to approach my unit about funding some stuff for morale purposes. Should be pretty interesting.
If I could shake this damn head cold I would be doing ok. Seriously, its May in central Texas. WTF gives?
Ok, enough of my bitching. It was bench, dip, curl night. My training buddy had shit to do tonight, so barbell benching was out of the equation. Insert DB bench and I roll on.
DB bench:
50sX15
75sX8
100sX8
125sX5
140sX8
161.2sX6
171.2sX4
181.2sX1
Despite not being able to make my nose function, this went rather well. My sets with the 161.2s and 171.2s both tied old PRs, and I had never attempted 181.2s before. If my training buddy keeps having shit to do on bench night, I will see how I can do on the 181.2s when I’m a little fresher.
Dips:
BDWx15
+40LBs of chain X10
+80Lbs of chain X10
+80LBs of chain X9
BDWx12
These felt ok. I am pleasently suprised by not having shoulder pain from these at all. I need to get my reps and weight up on them though.
Curls.
BarX10
95X10
135X5
The 135 set was a rather large pain on my wrists. Next time I am going to try casting them with my wraps. If this does not help, well, we shall see what happens.
DoveOfWar – where are you in TX? I’m in Austin on a contract right now.

conditioning day- so… this was our first conditioning day. i played it conservative and will slowly increase the intensity and weights used for the sled. all in all i’m very happy with the first one. i videoed some of the stuff we did. it’s pretty funny to see how actually slow i run. hopefully that will improve over time.
here’s the not-so-good, bad and really, really ugly.
hill “sprints”
second set of hill “sprints”
sled pull
sled row uphill
i also have vids of joweeee on my youtube site.
AHAHAH! the hill sprints are great!
I finally found something I think I can beat you at.
I’ll have to post a video to show you how I do them.
Are you timing any of your conditioning work?
you sprint funny, no offence i probably sprint like an idiot.

yeah… i’m a big stupid animal. my legs and arms are so fucking short. plus my damn thighs got so pumped that it looks more like a waddle.
no…not yet. i’m just easing into it. once my body has adapted to the activities, then i’ll start timing. i don’t want to push it and pull a muscle right now.
i look like a box running up that hill.

that’s why i put sprint in these- “”. my thighs were so pumped that it made it really hard to run. how do big guys run??

My first thought was “Damn, I didn’t know a refrigerator could run.”
