What are Good Numbers???

something similar happened to me on my first meet. everyone really is rather supportive at meets. definitely different than on the internet.

So if you’re on a football forum, and some guy comes in, for the 100th time that year alone, and asks how to throw a spiral, are you going to take the time to re-explain it to him as you have done the previous 100 times? It’s kinda like that.

The search function exists for a reason.
Nope, definately wouldn’t do that. If I responded at all, I would simply point him in the right direction. Hypothetically, I may tell him to use the search function or reply with a link to material that would be helpful etc…maybe enlighten him that the inquiry is redundant and tell him where to go for answers. I would not, however, leave him with a sarcastic and unhelpful response as you did in this forum. I understand that most of you are apparently tired of responding to “typical questions” but there can be a tactful way to do so in my opinion. Even if compelled to give a smartass response, folling such with some sort of help, to me, makes sense. Personally, I just think it is a waste of everyones time when threads get flooded with a bunch of sarcasm/unhelpful replies.
Ignore vtballa34 he is a level 4 dbag. He is great at counting to numbers as high as 5 though.

Not only are you dumb, but you are butthurt and going after one of the few guys in here that actually isn’t an idiot. Seriously, there are so many other people you could try calling out. Hell, call me out. If you call me names, though, pick something better than “dbag”. This isn’t the 10th grade.

I’m curious about this “level 4” thing. Is that as high as it goes? Would level 5 be like Justin Beiber? Would level 1 just be someone who is mildly annoying?

I am really looking forward to a reply.

Thanks, but not a helpful reply…I dont care what the “records” are as I wouldn’t expect to be a record breaker. I know very little about powerlifting…I was simply asking so that I could perhaps get some opinions/feedback from those who have experience in the sport. Like I said initially, I’m just curious as to what is competitive in an average meet for soomeone my size.
Well if you want to gauge your competitiveness then observing the respective talent pool of the sport via records isn’t a bad place to start. Where are you at now?
I don’t know exact numbers for my 1rms but I can regulary hit singles of 340 bench, 400 plus on squat and I can pull over 500 from a 4" platform… I never have a spotter and havnt been super concerned with max lifts, so I really don’t know exactly where my numbers would be.
Gah damn it. Some people these days. Know they are strong, but come on a forum to ask, then hope to get there e-penis stroked.

The worst part is, they say they’ve done some looking into the topic, which is a lie, cause if they had googled it or used the search on here they would have found a million articles. Stop being so lazy.
You got it clown…hit the proverbial nail on the head. I wanted my “e-penis stroked”… If I had a substantial knowledge base regarding the fuckin sport I wouldnt have asked the question. I find in life that asking people who have “been there, done that” to be a more reliable resource than sifting through google search results.

I know that I’m “strong” compared to the very few serious lifters at the gym I go to but also realize that that doesn’t mean shit. I was simply trying to get a barometer for a sport I have never been invlolved in as I enjoy competition by nature. It’s becoming apparent that I asked a question that has been beat into the ground in the past…I now understand that…
Nailed it.

I think VTBalla has made the point about if the same question has been asked 100 times, you wouldn’t answer politely. Stay up there on that horse, its easy to comment from there.

Good thing you’re asking people who have competed, which I have too, on the internet, rather than using the fucking internet to search and find a thread with the same god damn people answering the questions.

Compete. As people have said, once you let people know its you’re first meet, everyone is keen to help you out. Some may even high five you for having such sweet lifts.

I’m just saying that if this is the 100th time I’ve seen the question, I reserve the right to answer in a snarky, judgmental, and non-helpful manner.

And Casper 'ol boy, I am far beyond a Level 4 douchebag. Stop making “blanket statements” (and also find out what blanket statement actually means lol)

What I find ironic is that the standard advice on this forum is " Shut up and compete, everyone there will help you and they are cool as fuck" yet most folks on here are total smart asses and unhelpful, nor “cool as fuck”…that lends me to believe that none of you people compete or you save your helpfulness for these alleged competitions.

Why can’t people just answer the question or just don’t type? the guys at EFS get asked the same shit 1000’s of times and they don’t act like doosh bags…

OP if you want some real advice without all the cynical teenager shit talking try wanna be big…and yerah I hope this pisses some of you off. Happy Holidays lol

There was really only one dick post in this thread. I think that “don’t worry about the numbers and compete” is really good advice because if you’re waiting to be “strong enough” then you’ll never actually compete. There are no “good numbers” or “bad numbers”. There are just numbers. Good or bad is relative to your own progress and level unless you’re actually going out to try to set a record which you’re not going to do at your first meet.

Here I will borrow one if your gems for you. Are you “butthurt” that I called this person who you can’t seem to take your mouth off his nether region a dbag? If it bothers you why not simply ignore the comment?

You should maybe brush up on your vocab skills. Your math seems to be ok. Perhaps your ability to count to 3 will come in handy when I knock you out figuratively and potententially literally if you want to keep up this discussion. Also you haven’t reserved the right to do a damn thing you choose to be a smarrtass.

You’re sounding a little short bussy today ol’ chap.

Also, you spelled ghost wrong.

So I messed up some words typing on my tiny blackberry cell ohone screen, sue me. I think you get the message. It isn’t like we are running for political office here. I don’t think a few mispelled words are going to hurt my reputation in the strength training community.

The thing is the OP did not ask the question more than once. He asked a simple question and was very respectful toward your sport. If you can’t answer it without being a douche then just don’t answer. Also, considering how dead T-Nation forums has been lately you should welcome the discussion.

You can be the strongest and most intelligent guy on this forum but it doesn’t mean shit if you’re too arrogant to offer some basic information.

To the OP, I recommend competing as a few have said. Your numbers look solid; research on rules and regulations for a particular competition and practice your lifts under those circumstances. If you can pull those numbers in a local competition I’m sure you would do well.
