ME Lower Cycle 2

16" Box Squat
135x10
185x8
235x6
285x4
325x2 (rep PR)
335x1 (weight PR)
345x0
315x1

Partial Squat (4" above parallel)
405x3
415x1,1

Good Mornings (pin 6)
275 3x6

Reverse Lunges
155 2x8 (r,l)
155 1x8 (r only)

Narrow Neutral Grip pullups
90 5x3 (rep PR)

Db Curls
65 3x3
62.5 2x3

Notes:

Squat - Upper back sagging. Really gotta tighten up under the bar, look ahead and lead with the head going up. Too many reps at the lower weights too. Little disappointed. It’s only a PR cuz I haven’t done 'em for a while. Got stapled with 345. Sitting down good though - controlled to the box. Tend to bring my feet in when the weight gets heavier though. Gotta watch that.

I think I screwed up my deload, dropped intensity and volume when I ought to have dropped only volume. Now I have to make it up.

Good Mornings - tough. But got 'em done. drop the height an inch or two next time.

Reverse Lunges - right glute and ham aren’t up to snuff. Favoring the left side for pushing so I did extra set on right side.

Pullups - nice and smooth. Going up to the bar fast. Now pulling up one and half times my bodyweight.

Thanks for the input Skidmark and Meat.

i think they are perfect for Kroc Rows. If you would like a variation. Ditch the bench. Put the other hand on your knee and as you lower the dumbell turn it in and then as you pull it, bring it back out to the side. I get a huge stretch in the lat doing it that way.

DE Upper

A. Med ball chest passes (4kg ball)
5 sets of 6

B. Push press
10 sets of 2 with 155

C. Pull-ups, wide-grip
5 sets of 4

D. Rack lockouts (6th pin)
225 for 3 x 5

Comments:
Decent workout. Was up way too late last night so didn’t get good sleep and was pretty tired and had a lot of shit to do so it was kind of rushed… but still decent. I definitely feel more explosive on the med ball throws and push presses and I hope that will translate to increased hitting power. Pullups were fairly easy today, I’ll probably move to 4 x 5 next week.

I trained at a different gym today. One of my friends is a trainer there, so I finally had a reliable spot.

08/08/07 - Upper (ME)

A) Bench Press

225x5
275x3
315x1
345x2 (miss on 3)
345x2 (miss on 3)
360x2 (2 rep PR)

B) Rack Lockouts (Pin #10)
365x1
405x1
455x1
495x1
520x1 (PR +5lbs)

C) Barbell Holds
585x11sec (baseline PR) (Holy Freaking Heavy)

D) Close Grip Bench
225x20
225x10 (fried)
225x10 (")

E) Lateral Delt Raise
25x10
35x10
40x10
40x8

Just couldn’t lock that third rep out on the bench. First two felt great, and I didn’t feel drained, so went for a 2 rep PR at 360. Pretty smooth.

I locked out 520, and was going to do a hold, but I had Meat’s voice running through the back of my head, and I had a solid spotter, so I went for 585. Just for the record, 585 is heavy. It’s heavy when you are doing holds, it’s heavy on the deadlift. It’s just a lot of weight, and people stop and stare.

Overall, I felt pretty good today. I’ll take the 2 rep PR in place of the 3 rep.

8/8/07 DE Lower

Bodyweight was 224.5 this morning. One of my old clients trained with me today. He was a great client who was basically up for anything, just to do something different. He asked what I was doing today, so I told him I’d be doing some speed squats, heavy deads, pistol squats and fallouts. He was game.

A)DE 12" Box Squat w/ light bands
Bar x a bunch
Bands only x 5
135 x 2
225 x 2 x 3
230 x 2 x 1
235 x 2 x 4

Chris and I switched off on these, although his loads were different and box was higher than mine. This was awesome, as it kept the pace up and I’ve never felt better on dynamic work.

B)DL
135 x 3
225 x 3
395 x 5 x 3 (10 lb. PR for set/rep scheme)

This was easier than last week’s 385. Again, switching off with Chris kept the pace and energy up.

C)Elevated Pistol Squats=BW x 12 x 2

I hate these fucking things but I’m convinced they’re doing a ton for my squat and knee health/function. I haven’t had knee pain in months.

D)Blast-Strap Fallouts=8 x 3

NOTES: What a difference having a like-minded training partner makes. Chris and I usually have different schedules so a regular thing isn’t possible, but hopefully we can do this again.

Modi, I bet 585 is fucking heavy! I could see that helping alot though, good job on all the prs yeah whore.

Norwegie: Its crazy how much better and more fun it is to train with a good training partner ha? I wish I had the chance more often…

I am just sitting here waiting for my ride to go to the airport, BORED so bored I even took some progress photos with gasp BB style poses… I think I need some more carbs, its effecting my brain!

I did learn a few things though

  1. I have no idea how to pose
  2. I still have a good amount of fat on me.
  3. I am very white
  4. I wish I took pictures like this more often as I have nothing to compare to

There in my profile if anyone wants to see a short, fat pasty 200lb guy with lots of stretch marks

great training!! I knew you had the 585 in you. It should feel so heavy that it’s going to crush you, but you hold that fucker!!! 11 seconds is awesome!! keep going with them and I’m sure that lockout strength will improve dramatically.

Nice work there Modi.

And benching should be easier now. After all, now your arms are shorter…

  1. That means your arms are stronger than my whole body LoL

I agree and think I need to get under some partials again they really help make the heavy loads of Full ROM not feel so damn heavy after a long time away.

NICE!!! work I think we have our first calander month

That’s it! That’s what it felt like.

I thought “holy shit, this is going to crush me”, and then I thought, “wait this isn’t so ba…” and before I could finish that thought the bar plopped down onto the pins.

The second the elbows begin to bend, it’s all downhill.

Heheh. By that logic, they are pretty much stronger than my whole body as well. And I could use a little help in the shorter arms department. I don’t exactly have T-Rex arms. lol.

Kalle, looking good. You’re right, your posing is lacking something, but nice job on the weight loss so far.

Oh, I hear that if you take your shirt off every once in a while, you can be less pasty.

Thanks Phill. I’m going to make one more run at a DL PR on Friday. If my warmups go well, I’ll take another stab at 610. Then the ball is in your court.

My current goal is to keep my Squat ahead of my Bench!

ME Deadlift

Warm-up: Mobility work

Reverse band sumo DL (green band)

185 x 3
275 x 3
315 x 2
365 x 1
405 x 1
435 x 3 x 1
465 x 3 x 1
495 x 2 x 1 (hips were killing me, put on briefs)

Rack pulls (pin #3, right below knee)

worked up to 535 x 3 x 2 (PR!! wore belt)

Green band leg curls
3x15

Ab pulldowns
2x15

Notes: It’s getting impossible for me to do deadlifts anywhere. I’m getting freakin’ pissed about this and it has only driven me to set up a garage gym even faster. There was this assclown clanging 155 off the floor like it was 5 plates or something (with some of the worst form I’ve ever seen mind you).

Well, this chrome and fern palace has a childcare center right below the squat rack area and somebody down there complained about noise. By the time I worked up to 435, some personal trainer told me I was making too much noise and had to ‘put the weight down easier’.

I was in no mood for this and I think he could tell, plus I let him know the noise was coming from the Diesel Weasel imitator just 5 minutes earlier and not me. I ended up putting thin Airex pads underneath the plates to muffle the sound and satisfy the prick.

Oh well, back to the lifting. I tried going raw again on the reverse band DLs; it worked fine up to the third set with 465, but my hips and groin let me know they weren’t able to handle it much longer. I pushed through and decided to add loose briefs on the final sets - just to keep the hips and groin comfy.

The singles with 495 were a little harder than I thought they’d be, but I was able to get 'em clean. I’m probably done with this exercise for this training cycle and I might test my sumo max next then take a week off and work up to my opener for multiple singles in a suit 2-3 weeks out from the meet.

I was tired after the sumos, but pressed on with rack pulls from pin #3. This is just below my knee cap and is the spot where I hit a brick wall when I pull. My hands were super sweaty since it was about 80 degrees inside, so I pussed out and used straps (but stayed double overhand). Had to check my old logs and discovered that my old PR was 525 for a single.

So I was worn down yet able to hit 3 sets of doubles on a pin that I had made no improvement weight-wise for 9 months. I think you’d call that progress. With this kind of gain, kind of anxious to see the results for my full ROM pull.

After next weekend, should have an idea what my openers will be, but my ultimate goal is 600/440/550.

Thanks Modi, just real bored today, I’ve never taken any pics like that for whatever reason, I really wish I had when I started, mid way, etc… posing always look right in the mirror, lol not a big deal of me, you should see the shots I didn’t upload…

If you think thats pasty you should have seen a couple months ago.

Phill, Thanks to maybe I can get a tan before its time to shot the calender lol.

Waiting in the terminal to board my flight in an hour.

Little bit more rest than GAME TIME!

8/8/07- Wednesday- Strength Lower Body

A)Squats w/ Draper Top-Squat Bar
135x5
185x3
225x2
265x2
295x1
315x1
335xMISS
315xMISS (spotter bumped into me and fucked my momentum)

B)Front Squat (arms crossed BB style)
(135x5 185x3)
205x3
215x3
225x3 x3

C)Romanian Deadlift
315x4
355x3
385x3
415x4 (10lbs weight PR)
415x5 (10lbs weight PR and rep)

Notes: Felt good and awkward as usual using the Top-Squat Bar. I think my previous best is 335, but I think that given a slightly different set-up, I could have had it. When I missed it, my spotter/parter couldn’t lift me so I had dump it forward in the rack. When I went back to 315, I would have had it, but he was too close and bumped into me, destroying my momentum.

Front squats were surprisingly decent.

I wanted the RDLs for a 10lb PR x 5 reps and a 60lb PR in the last 3 weeks. I had the vid camera set and my partner couldn’t figure out the video till the last rep. I stopped at 4 thinking I couldn’t get 5. FUCK IT, I want 5 and I want the whole goddamn thing on tape. So I did it.

I’m thinking next week will be a good time to test my conventional dead.
