New Castle is right outside of Wilmington, so I’d say about 2 hours from here (depending on I-95 traffic of course). I used to work in West Chester, PA, which is about 15 minutes away from Wilmington, so I know the area pretty well. You could actually ride along with me and my fan club (my wife) if you’d like. It is a hell of a lot closer to us than Bristol. Let me know what you think.
thanks for the offer!! i’m going to check out the fed and see what goes. It definitely sounds like a good time.

It will be an APF meet, so basically anything goes. I’ll be taking part in the AAPF, which is the amateur section, since this will be first bona fide meet.
The APF has been around for a while, 25 years I think. If you don’t read the forums, which I don’t anymore, the APF/WPO is having some problems right now in terms of rep, due in part to real and perceived lax judging standards as well as what some consider excessive allowances for gear (of all kinds).
However, that is way too broad of a generalization and a lot of the heat is due to the near comical lifts that received white lights during the WPO Finals @ the Arnold Classic a couple of years ago, as well as the guy who owns the organization, Kieran Kidder. A lot of people don’t like him.
Really, I could care less about all the internet politics bullshit, I just want to lift some damn weights and post a total.
Hey, I live in Wilmington! When/where is this meet or is there a website? I don’t think I could be competing but I’d love to stop by and do some learning and cheer you guys on.
Damn, small world. I used to work right next to US-202 in WC (actually West Goshen township to be exact). I miss the days of driving by WCU’s campus on a warm spring day, when the co-eds would shed their winter layers for more revealing attire. Sigh, I feel old.
Whereabouts in Wilmington are you? If you’re interested in coming to the meet the address is: The Training Center (great name, I know) @ #807 Churchman’s Center, Rt 273 and Churchman’s Road, New Castle, DE. I went to a meet there in April - great atmosphere, really loud music and super-nice people.
Edit: forgot to add that it will be Sept 15th starts around 10 a.m.
I don’t live far from 202… right off Naaman’s Road. I’m gonna check that gym out, I’ve been looking for a better atmosphere to train in, although there’s not much back in the summer and I go back to school soon. If I can get back home on the 15th I’m definitely stopping by. Thanks man!

with the hold, set up with the bar almost at lockout on pins. have a guy on each side. have them help you lift it into the lockout position. then hold it as long as you can. I have one of the guys time me to see how long I can hold it. when i reach 20 seconds i add weight. you shouldn’t be able to unrack it by yourself.
meat
Maybe I need to add some weight to my holds then. I found I was able to lock out 120lbs more than my max and hold it for 20 sec, but it was a hard 20, and I started on the pins, not on the rack. Since I don’t always have a reliable partner, I figured this was the next best option.
when I say “unrack” I mean to pick it up off the pins. you are right. there’s no reason to unrack it when it’s easier to just have them pick it up off the pins. but if you can push it up off the pins then you are just doing a rack lockout anyway:)
meat
Gotcha. Should I be doing more weight, assuming I can get a hand off? I’m not sure I could have gone much longer than 20sec at 505, but I was able to lock it out.
Basically I worked up to a bunch of heavy singles on lockouts, jumping 20lbs each time. When I hit 505 I held it for 20sec. Then I bumped it up to 515, and only hit 12 seconds because my shoulder started to feel funny. This will be my last week with the holds for a few weeks, so what’s your thought on it?
i would bump up the weight next time. i think 520 would be good for you next time. If you are doing it as an accessory I would go straight to it for 2-3 sets.
good luck… you whore

Thanks. If I can’t get a lift off, I could probably lock that out myself, if I don’t burn so much energy on the warmups.
I guess my question is, why not start with a rack lockout, if you can do it? Does that mean the weight is too light to be beneficial for a hold? Or does that mean I’m just good at the last 2" of my bench, but suck at the rest? lol.

That’s pretty scary. I didn’t weigh myself today, but I might be tied with you. Like Phill said, you’re just a shit ton stronger, that’s all.
Good luck in finding a meet. That really sucks that they canceled the VA meet.

I do a hold at the end of my rack lockouts as well. But I find that extremely heavy holds really work to the bone. I usually do holds with around 200lbs over my max. I could never lock that out. Give it a try. If your max is around 400lbs right now. throw close to 585 on the bar and get two guys to lift it up for you.

It may be a blessing. With my new found leaness, I may wait for my weight to level off and then hit a meet or two. My strength has been pretty good but my endurance is starting to be affected by the weight loss.
Hey Meat, you stole all this from Chad Waterbury, haha just kidding… I like how everyone was asking if you can incorporate the program for all 3 lifts together somone replied
“yeah its called Westside” lol…
Ive noticed the same thing with the fat loss, strength has been good but I got to watch the volume.
A. Box Squat
135 x 8
185 x 5
225 x 1
235 x 1
245 x 0
245 x 0
185 x 6
B. Deficit Deadlift
225 x 8
275 x 3
325 x 1
345 x 1
C. Glute-Ham Raise
BW x 4 x 8
D. Standing Barbell Curl
60 x 8
70 x 8
75 x 8
75 x 8
Yet again, I couldn’t match my previous PRs. My previous PR for box squat was 245 and I failed twice trying to hit it. 235 went up really smooth and got my hopes up, but both 245 got stuck a couple inches off of the box. Hopefully my body will get back into shape and I’ll be back in the flow of setting more PRs. It’s annoying that just two weeks off affects me so much. It’s like taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back.

Yeah, I think once my weight stabilizes the endurance will come back. My lower back is loving the smaller Budda Belly though.
We should put together a Westside Thread calender. I’ve always wanted to do one of those shots were you are looking back over a shoulder while simultaneously having a look on your face like you smell something really bad. I think it’s call “Blue Steel”.
Strict enough for “Kroc Rows?” Just curious what people’s opinions are…

i think they are perfect for Kroc Rows. If you would like a variation. Ditch the bench. Put the other hand on your knee and as you lower the dumbell turn it in and then as you pull it, bring it back out to the side. I get a huge stretch in the lat doing it that way.

A calender lol… I bet it would be a hot seller come holiday time.
I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing? I don’t think I want to market myself to that target audience though…

I haven’t taken two weeks off in long time but, I have stalled out like this after a week off(drinking and lack of sleep don’t help anything). Instead of trying again in week 3, I focused on getting 5 lifts at +90%. I pretty much stayed at 90-92%. This has happen to me twice and it has work to get me out of the rut both times. I don’t know if this will work for you, but it is a suggestion or something to try.
