Thanks, Phill. The way he’s growing I figure he’ll be able to FUNCTIONALLY pin me when we wrestle by the time he’s 14. I’d have him lifting now, but his coach nixed the idea and I don’t want to reduce my son’s respect for coach by contradicting him.

I do believe you’re right about him getting a good base of strength through gymnastics, especially having read Coach Sommer’s articles…

Cheers

Reaally good on you bro many parents try and get way to into that sure be there support them but get those mixed messages going and man thats tough and leads to other areas of life

As well can quickly turn NOT FUN which is huge it should be a blast for him now and hopefully forever

Phill

Productive few days have all kinds a new toys taking shape.

1 motorcycle done and getting offers. More othjert stuff work

Then have finished:

suitcase carry pretty much one farmers walk I think I casn use it to DL one armed as well

Fat bar DB

2 indestructible collars

My hain yoke whiche I think is going to be very damn usefull Now looking at it I can put ithem on any oly bar I have and if I choke it up can use as weight releasers so can overload the top end on squats etc as well

700lb tire I cant flip it one handed so putting it to use as well I have it almost able to be hooked to my chain yoke and pick that big sucker up with BB and walk inside it. I think if one was man enough they could drag the sucker as well now

Should be a fun week of training LOL

Ill pop some pics up later

Phill

Here ya go this is the wall I had to knock down this is early last week is a bit cleaner and more finished now but an idea Great GPP for a one armed bastard

Phill

New Fat DB and killer collars

This one kinda tough had to jack round with the brightness and contrast due to the sun to try and make it better visible but Chain yoke/ weight releasers

I dont know man, I think you had something left on that failed bench attempt. They did seem to grab that bar very quickly IMO. Nice work man.

Matt/AA,

I can’t argue with the spotters, they were just there to help. I don’t think I was ready to give up on the attempt, but I did notice two things.

First was that I didn’t get my feet very wide like my other attempts, and second, just before I take the weight off the rack I try and reset my shoulders. I think I had a bad setup and wasn’t very tight, and that’s why I try to reset.

I’ll hit that weight soon enough. Bottom line is that it wasn’t my best effort, so I can’t really be upset with the spotters, the blame is on me. But thanks for the support.

Awesome job Modi and Matt McGorry! Great vids too.

Love the not cursing woman. Was that a judge or something who said that?

Heheh, that was the head judge that scolded him!

He did apologize right after he nailed that lift though.

Seems like it would have been easier, and neater, just to light a stick of dynamite there! Nice work, how long do you think the project will take?

Nice job on the homemade implements as well.

Modi,

Looking at that last bench attempt, it just looked like you got a bad start off the bottom, but it was still going up when the spotters grabbed. I think you would have had it, personally.

Hey Phil how about some more info on that chain yoke and the collars, I need to make some collars for my farmers and log, that chain yoke looks like a killer! talk about working the core. Should make a solid yoke seem real easy.

Sure what do you need to know

Its just steel pole like fence post a 2 1/4 I think to just fit over the bars with a little slack. The collars simply drill holes in the peices of pole 3-4 inches of pole. Put the nut and botl in and weld the Nut to the pole/pipe them you can really crank the botl down and its not that cheap pot metal you can put a few nut/bolts in it if wanted and yes great for farmers thats mainly why I made them

Chain yoke is killer and actually pretty stable once you get used to it. really have to get the stride or it swings. Same pipe same nuts to hold in place. take two U Bolts each and weld them on the pipe first with the plate that goes bolts on the U to get them placed. Pinch the u’s together then tack them and just weld the suckers.

Then got the tire done last night think itll be killer to use as a yoke as well

Man anything more and just holler I can be more descriptive even snap a closer photo if needed

Oh the ends of the yoke. I just took off the end of an old BB I had cheap one and welded stops on them on the bottom . You could also just use some 2" pipe

Phill

Couple thing of note.

My scale while not accurate for the total tells me changes damn thing reads another 5 lbs or so down friggin 225 WOW it hasnt read that in a long while

Not a huge accomplishment but went to test BP at the pharmacy, My good (left arm) well it no longer fits the thing it squeezes in the machine nice and snug prior to turning it on. LOL Guess the new arm work is working  again not a huge accomplishment but kinda felt good and at a Lower body weight

gonna have to up the intake soon I think but as long as getting stronger all good for now

ME Squat day
Bottom-Up Squat (4s pause on pins)
115x2
165x2
205x2
245x2
285x2
325x1,0 (PR)
315x2,3 (Rep PR)

Deficit deadlift 2" deficit
235x2
275x2
315x2
355x2
395x2
425x1,1,1,1

Romanian DL
315x4,4,4

Notes: Now I know why warmup is important. Hamstrings up near the hips were wailing on the 325 SQ. But they were just hummin’ on the 315 SQ second set. I started with no general warm up. Had I done so I bet that 325 would have been 10 lbs higher.

DLs feel tight, but they really show the weakness of my hamstrings and I’m not clenching my butt to bring the hips to the bar. Ran through some RDL’s to practice that. Still locking the legs first and pulling with the back (a two phase movement) rather than a single coordinated rise to the top. I think as my squats get stronger my deadlift form will improve. The weight may not for a while, however…

Also - what the hell am I doing? Even though the squat was a PR, I did not have the mindset to do PR’s in the forefront. If I’m not attempting to get PR’s then I’m bodybuilding. Stopping at 95% and doing reps is for assistance work. I ought to be going for 100% percent every ME day. If I need to do reps, get the PR first and then drop weight.

Now that the meet is over, I’m going back to 5x5’s for my ME movement for the next 5 weeks, deloading for 1 week, and then sets of 1-3’s for ME for 4 weeks, then deloading. I’ll repeat that cycle again if it seems to be working.

05/21/07 - Squat (ME)

A) 14" Box Squat
135x10 ATG
225x6
275x5
295x5x5

B) 17" DB Stepup
65x10
70x10!

C) Pullups
Bodyweight
12
12
9!

D) DB Pullover (elbows wide)
70x12
80x12
80x12

I felt good today. A little residual soreness from Saturday, but it felt good to get moving.

My plan with the 5x5’s is to start at my week 4 weight from the last phase. So if my 5 week progression last time was 265x5x5,275,285,295,305 this time my goal would be to start at 295x5x5,305,315,325,335 etc. Obviously if I can make a bigger jump, I will, or if I need to make a smaller one I will as well. And I’ll only make the jump in weight if I get 5x5.

Right on, I think I got it, good idea on the loading pins for the yoke, you should be able to use this for rolling thunder/1 arm deadlift to, just get a chain and a handle.

Maybe a close up of where the chain attaches to the bar on the yoke? Whenever I won’t be building anything anytime soon.

so your going to attach the tire to your chain yoke? Damn I would trip all over using that. shins would be messed up!

Damn so you have lost 20lbs or so?

You better start eating or else we will start weighing the same, ever sense I started trying to maintain my weight and cut my calories back a bit to stay under 200 I have started gaining weight quicker! Not sure wtf happened, I weighed 203 in my boxers first thing in the morning the other day, by far the most ever. Still not to heavy to make 200 for comp though.

Modi & Matt,

Congrats on the meet! You guys did a great job and got a couple of PRs to boot.

Modi, I think the spotters definately pulled your lift a bit too early. They ussally give you some time to battle it out. They may have grabbed it because one side was coming up faster than the other. I’m sure by the next meet you’ll open with that weight! Congrats!

Matt are your videos on a time delay? On the bench attempts it looks like you were jumping the press command? I also think maybe your opener was a little too low to start out with since 260-303 is a pretty big jump. Great job on the pulls! Looks like you could have added weight to that last attempt and still smoked it! I bet you got the bug now!

How well did you guys do in the overall and individual standings for your weight class?
