great post Phill!! I caught myself nodding while I was reading it. I couldn’t agree more. It seems today that people are generally weak willed and fragile. You can always tell the people that are self reliant.

Especially men these days. These metrosexuals look like you could break them with two fingers.

I have an undergraduate degree in exercise physiology and a master’s in Education. But like you said, I learned more from working with my hands and from others that work with their hands. I am glad that I don’t have to dig ditches anymore to make ends meet but I appreciate those that do. The days of the teenage out doing construction work for the summer seem to be over. everything is handed to them on a silver platter.

Like you, I could go on and on.

agian, great post Phill.

Hell yes seems a fight to get kids to even walk somewhere let alone work or Know how or even have the desire to know how odd weird fright of anything ou actually have to live and do.

Oh and Like you said I dont HAVE to dig ditched to make ends meat now But yes Ive been there I can CHOOSE to do anything I need done knowing I can but hell may pay out or trade some things we have a choice now and hell yes the lessons learned or in many cases now missed are irreplaceable IMO

Great post yourself

Thanks Phill, the axle is SMOOTH but I made sure to not paint it and the rust/chalk mixture help give something to hold onto. it is 2"
the rack pulls where with a normal bar, as soon as this comp is over there will be alot of deficeit snatch grip deads for me, as out of the hole is obviously where I am lacking. being I just did 10 reps with my 1 rep max on a low rack pull.

Nice work bro axles are killer I think mines 2.25 or 2.5 havent been able to mess with it in a bit but man killer on grip

Hey try giving zercher DL’s with that axle a try if you are weak in the bottom man you have to get UBER low to get elbows under the bar and drop the ego/load but they seemed to help me with all my lifts. They will aid the hell out of your kegs and stones.

Lower ME May 15th 07

Day of surgery 250 an few ounces today scale near 230 about 233 not sure how accurate mine is though the other was at the hospital. I think the loss is all arm LOL

Another day of labor less intensive but still well shovel tearing down tile etc etc plenty of repetition work needed to lift Heavy so:

LETS SQUAT!!!

  1. Front Squat (14 inch box squat touch and go)
    Bar x ton
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    275 x 5
    315 x 3
    365 x 3
405 x 1 butter, just smooth!! but did feel bi and arm getting tight grabbing bar hard

415 x ABORT I needed to GRAB!!! The bar and just not comfortable with that yet LOL Hate excuses BUT heck doc said no lifting over 1 lb sooo prob smart

225 x 20
These tried the holding pair of straps method different but was ok

I cant rep anything remotely heavy have to reset due to the arm not being able to REALLY grab tight

  1. Back squat 14 inch box touch and go ( what the heck been a while)
    225 x 5
    315 x 3
    405 x 3
    455 x 1 (slow but solid)
Wow Im happy with that seeing as havent really back squatted in over 9 weeks and I did all the front squatting first felt good.

  2. High Bar ? squats little over 1 foot ROM Pin #12
    565 x 5
Then a few from dead stop bottom up light just work on that mid range and blasting I was pretty baked by now
    405 x 5

3A)One arm DB SLDL
200 x 3 (3sets)

3B) step ups and Decline weighted abs
3 sets of each

All in all good work loved back squatting got about dbl body weight fatigued after all the front squats. Mentally arm messing with me last few days working lifting prob good need to NOT blow this but also keep rollin Front squats just weren?t feeling great very nervous

Stay Strong
Phill

Killer work Phill. That didn’t sound like an excuse, that sounded like a reason. When you are 100% healthy, there are no excuses, period. When you are working around an injury, you have to be smart. It means pushing all out on the stuff you can do, and being smart enough to know what you can’t do. Good lifting, keep up the solid work.

Man, I just don’t see how that would help.

I think c. is right, cups aren’t regulation, although I know some people wear adult diapers, so who knows, maybe anything goes.

the volumeator is back!! that’s a lot of squatting there. I’m hoping to get in at least half of that volume tonight.

I can’t imagine what the training is going to look like once you are %100.

meat

damn…looks like everyone is still kicking arse…nice work…just did the mid atlantic strongman contest, came in tied for 4th, which means 5th,

this angers me, but is an improvement…if i did more conditioning work would have place d higher…i just ran out of gas on the last few events

  1. 230 12" log----00, only 2 people got it, dont know why, i chalk mine up to nerves, was actually shaking, and couldnt calm down…oh well

2.710 yoke/725 tire–came in 2nd on this, me and the guy in 1st were the only ones to complete it

3.300 farmers–first time trying 300, so it was a pr, usually if i can pick it i cruise, but i dropped it at about 45 ft, 1st time that ever happened, so now i guess i need grip work and pick work, either way a pr.

  1. stones–was absolutely gassed at this point…but got the 260, 300, 315…which sucks b/c i ve gotten all of them in training(misssed 330,338,355)…but whatever, most people only got 3 anyway…it didnt help anyone that it was hot as hell, which make tacky like grease

  2. 280 hydrant carry/580 sea chain drag-- this killed me, crushed it eassily in training but, was dead at this point…oh well

Good work, sounds like you had fun and set some PR’s. Heat is a killer, maybe some extra GPP in the future. When is the next one?

That’s what I figured, but I just wanted to make sure!

So, did some close stance low box squats last night. I believe it was on a 12" in box. I was suppose to be going about 2" below parallel.

Well, I took a video of my last set and after watching it, I am really rocking with the weight when I get on the box. That’s probably not good.

I uploaded the video to my profile but it’s not working for some reason. When it is working I’ll let you fellas know so you can critique my form.

If you are rocking to get up a couple of things come to mind. First, it could just be too much weight, plain and simple. You could be sitting back too far (pretty rare).

Or you could be trying to drive the feet into the floor rather than driving your head/shoulders towards the ceiling. Just some initial thoughts. Let us know when the vids are working.

Well, I was only using 225 for the reps so who knows.

I’ll let ya know when the video is working.

One more thing.

The last couple of times I’ve done GHRs, my left hamstring pops when I get to a certain point on the way down.

There is no pain or discomfort, just a pop feeling. It’s when I try to go to parallel. And maybe it’s not my hamstring that is popping, but that’s the general area where I feel it.

Any ideas?

Phill how the hell do you do that much squating in one day? everytime I have ever tried to do front squats right after back squats it just won’t happen! Is this something you have just got used to over time?
