I’ve pretty much done my own program for about the year and a half that I have seriously devoted time to training. And I’ve made very considerable gains (mostly thanks to my genetic makeup).
Regardless I went from a enormously overweight fatass or 180 to a moderately muscled (in my opinion, and probably yours considering I have no photographic evidence) 210 pounds at 6 feet, which by no means is incredible or even worthy of much praise, but I find it very exciting becauses it pleases me, and knowing that not many other 15 year olds in my school can even closely match up to me.
Recently, I’ve decided to try out the Westside for Skinny Bastards program, as it seems fairly sucessful for pretty much everyone, but I have one question.
If I start it, can I switch the earlier in the week Maximum Effort Upper Body day with the later in the week Repitition Upper Body day, or would that just mess up the plan?
If you’re asking if you can do RE Upper Monday, and ME Upper on Friday, than hell yeah. As long as you don’t change the principles of the template and get enough rest between days then you can change it to suit your life.
That’s part of what makes “Westside” so popular, it’s a template not a “DO THIS ON THIS DAY WITH THIS MANY SETS THIS MANY REPS WITH THIS MUCH REST BETWEEN SETS…” type of workout.
Why would you want to switch the days? Don’t just ask a question without telling us why. Yes the program gives you options with exercise selection but the days themselves are pretty strict. ME day must come first in the week or else it will suffer. Put what you want to improve on first in the week, and first in the workout.

I dont agree the body wont know if hes doing the ME on friday or monday as long as there is plenty of time betweem then it wont mean a thing they are just days.
It will be fine, do them anmd since you are not doing sport practice etc be sure to add in the work GPP stuff sprints, dragging things, flipping tires playing games etc for the lower body as you only have the one ME lower day,

Great program choice,

It’s simple-better work is done earlier in the week. period. I don’t see any need to switch the days.

LOL how and why would you think this. The body again dont care if its wednesday, saturday, monday etc. as long as there are a few days of reast prior to the ME work the actual name of the day means squat.
By your thinking it would mean if say I did
MON ME Upper
TUE ME LOWER
WED off
THUR off
FRI RE Upper
Sat OFF
SUN OFF
id get lesser results then say
MON RE Upper
TUE off
WED Off
THURS ME Upper
FRI Me Lower
SAT Off
SUN Off
PLLEEASE fill me in and explainm how either plan is lesser than the other or any mix there of

Yes TECHNICALLY the day doesnt matter but it’s common sense and most people feel that they work better at the beginning of the week. Thats why a lot of lifters may go to the gym on monday, tuesday, or maybe wed. but drop off at the end of the week. Just follow the damn program.

Generally I’m the most tired on a monday. I in fact almost always take mondays off.
Some people have weeks that are hardest at the beginning and the weekends are the best time to get quality training in.
good point, but I’m pretty sure most people are not in that situation. For most people at the end of the week they are tired and too lazy to lift. Good discussion though.

In the end they are the same right?? The difference bieng you need to do what works for YOU!! So it may be the perfect choice fopr the OP to swap he days.

What if he hypothetically started the system on a Wednesday, and that was always his point of reference: that Wednesday is the beginning of his training week.
Though, he would be putting two heavy workouts close to one another, but if he can make gains than you can’t argue with that.
Actually, the reason was just that, I feel like shit on Mondays. And I don’t think that it would be the best day to hit ME.
And since I have no sport, I sprint on a GPP or skill day or do some sort of sled dragging or strongman training, or sometimes I do another Leg workout, depends on my mood. Usually in the middle of the week I fell like throwing, pushing, and hitting things to blow off some steam (I’ve used working out to self remedy my inherited agression problems, not saying that I have a short temper, because I absolutely do not, but when I get mad… I get ANGRY) so I’ll usually do a strongman workout. I’ve acquired my own sled and welded my own farmer walkers in my Uncles workshop, and it shouldn’t be too hard to find a tire in East LA.
And I specifically did it so there is adequate rest between workouts of Upper then Lower then Upper then Lower. So far, I think the program is going to work great. Although since I kind of just “winged it” when I started lifting and made my own bastardized version of 5x5 program I really wish I would have really looked into Westside earlier.
So, point is, rest remains the same in the program, I just switched the ME Upper day and RE Upper day, without a loss of rest, so I guess it works out fine. Kickass.
