Things are going well. I switched to raw powerlifting a year ago and I am really enjoying it. Thanks, you’re pretty hot yourself. Good to see you here as well.

do you guys consider the main lift day in regards to accessory work?

as in bench day will have triceps/chest accessory, etc? sounds like its not uncommon to do copletely unrelated stuff.

also does order of lifts matter? i plan to do 4 day and the setup in 5/3/1 says press, deadlift, bench, then squat. does it matter if i shift it around or is there a specific reason for this order (lol)

A noob question: how much do you rest between sets on main lift?

-do what works for you.

A noob question: how much do you rest between sets on main lift?

  • three to five mins should be good.

Is good this Accessory work for Wendler’s 5/3/1 program:

Squat: BB Lunges, DB Step-ups and Good Mornings

Military Press: Pull-ups, DB Shoulder Press, Dips and Face Pulls

Deadlift: Front Squat, DB Rows and DB Shrugs

Bench: DB Incline, BB Rows and Pull-ups

Ab work is done every session

I’m looking for input as to exercise selection. I using a 4x8-12 set/rep scheme

Is it better to do straight sets or ramp up the weights in each set? Right now I do two warmup sets, then do my 3-6work sets. What are the advantages of ramping up versus straight sets?

I think most people use stright weight for accessory work. For the BBB part I either use 55% or start at 70% and work down to 55-50%. I use the same weight for hypers/GM’s etc but I add weight each week.

Just try both ways and see what works best. The accessory work is not as important at the first 3 working sets of the day and you should already know what they work.

I really dont know how common it is for me to end up with 1rms around my provious. I dont really worry about that aspect so much, as much as I do setting weight/rep PRs

My gains so far on the main lifts have been:

Squat
800x1 to an easy 830x1 IIRC

Barbell Row
315x4 to 315x14

Deadlift 630x1 competition gear to 710x1 raw

I also managed to go from 330 to 290 during the same time I was making these gains. In the squat I wore the same gear at 290 as I did at 330, so it was much looser.

As for training with Wendler, if by training, you mean hot man on man sex, then yes. Otherwise I have no idea.

Jason, how long a time frame has it taken to see those improvements?? The jump in your deadlift in particular’s sick!!

yes, how long did that take? that is intense!

also, the 40lb drop makes it more impressive. did u do anything to lose the extra weight, or is this some magic from the program on top of the mansexing?

and exercise order: is it set for a special reason or does it not matter if i go squat bench deadlift press?

5 months or so. I started the 5/3/1 but dont remember when I did the maxes. A month or so ago I think. Id have to get into my log and look.

Do you think your big gain on the barbell row had a lot to do with the increase in your deadlift?

For Squat/Bench and deadlift is better to do Straight sets or Ramp up the weights in each set? What are the advantages of ramping up versus straight sets on fundametal exercises?

Interesting… thanks for the reply. If I could even take 60 or 70% of your deadlift gain I’d be a happy camper!!

Absolutely. Lockout was where I was have always had issues with my deadlift, and now, I know it was due to my upper back not being as strong as it should be.

so at the end of the 4wk cyclish, after you get your 1rm from the 5/3/1 days, you deload then use the new 1rm and do another cycle?

if you got burnt out from the 5 and 3 before the max single and you got lower than before, do i just use my old 1rm or my current noob one?[/quote]

This is all explained in the book.

Whatever it takes to get the job done - probably 3-6 minutes or so. Why rush through this?
