Weird, but impressive

I’m sorry you had such a disturbing time at school!
And people say kids today are weird, haha (they are though).

I went to a party-all-the-time high school filled with soon-to-be frat bros, who are notorious for thinking that type of thing is funny. We had parties with hundreds of people there quite frequently, but kids who passed out with their shoes on were lucky if they only got dicks drawn all over their face with a permanent marker. Never saw this myself, but definitely heard at least 2 times about a picture circulating with someone passed out and a nutsack on their head. Not sure how guys can simultaneously be macho and do stuff like that, but the jock/frat bro culture is such that I’m certain we weren’t unique in that sense.
I was a skinny stoner, close with most everyone in my class but closest with all the stoners. Being with that crowd kind of kept me from being around too much of that stuff, but also led to me having more dead friends. 10 from my class OD’d by the time my 10th HS reunion rolled around.

I come here to see feats of strength, and I come back with nightmarish images. I guess you do need a strong will to pursue the sport of iron

Wait, how did I miss that you posted this!!! @cyrrex take a look at his video, I shouldn’t have had to divulge any of this info in here because that video said it all, if you’d watched it there’d be no explanation necessary, hahah. Oh well. ‘Twas for the best, I suppose.

It’s all good, bonus banter was had!

Rough about your HS friends!

Jesus where was your school located?
Also I’m not sure which age is ‘high school age’

New York, but as is evidenced by that movie scene, this stuff is everywhere. I’ve seen videos of Rammstein concerts too, so Germans are not exempt

Oh, and 14-18.

I was more referring to T E N people in one high school class dying of drugs.

Rammstein is awesome but I am not sure their concert videos are an accurate representation of the German school scene.

But yeah lots of dodgy things happening on schools everywhere, I imagine! Just not as ‘American Pie on acid…esque’.
Comparably mine was rather civil. Or maybe just my peers and classmates. At least from my memory. A teacher killed himself in a gruesome way with the intention of being found by his class though… so not all fairytales either on that school.

Also: Sorry about your losses. Didn’t mean to be hurtful

I was totally being lighthearted. I was positive, and still am, that you meant no harm and took 0 offense. My area of Long Island, NY was hit harder than almost anywhere in the country by the opioid/opiate epidemic. Starts with oxy, which is just synthetic heroin, and when the money runs out ($80 for one 80mg pill), you can get the same high for $10 shooting it up. But all dark discussion aside, you weren’t offensive at all, dude.

People actually read @alex_uk 's posts? I will have to consider that in the future. Besides, your explanation and stories really helped to provide some needed color.

Ah shit, didn’t make the connection to the opiod crisis.
It’s interesting in a cruel way that people who formerly used marihuana are at higher risk there. If you can say as much, but at least in the case of your HS peers there seems to be a correlation, right?

Yeah, it’s a bit of a catch 22, since those people were always looking for the next thing from the beginning. Some people never wanted more than pot, but the group of stoners in high school generally encompassed everyone from general potheads to full blown addicts.

C2W1D4 - Day of the Deadlift

A bit underfed the last couple of days, so not feeling really strong today. I think I need to “commit” to a more workable diet, something that will feed the gains without me feeling overly guilty about what I am stuffing in my face.

Also tried today to get into the proper Sumo stance for the deads, as we have been discussing in Hamster’s thread. I paid a lot of attention to opening up my hips, and getting my knees stacked over my ankles, and that means a wider stance than I have been using (I use Squat Sumo stance, according to J). This felt very much like my old approach to Sumo, including the reason I stopped doing it…my left knee in particular does not like the torque. So even if it is the theoretical “ideal” starting point for Sumo, I don’t think I should really be doing it anymore. Need to stick with Squat Sumo, or just Conventional.

Anyway, it all felt a bit too heavy today. Put everything up by 5 kilo. Also did the bare minimum on the back-off sets. Sad little joker set as well.

  • Barbell Deadlift

    • 70 kg x 5 reps
    • 85 kg x 5 reps
    • 105 kg x 5 reps
    • 120 kg x 3 reps
    • 135 kg x 3 reps
    • 150 kg x 1 reps
    • 170 kg x 1 reps
    • 170 kg x 3 reps (joker)
    • 120 kg x 3 reps
    • 120 kg x 3 reps
    • 120 kg x 3 reps
  • Standing Barbell Shoulder Press (OHP)

    • 40 kg x 5 reps
    • 52.5 kg x 10 reps
    • 52.5 kg x 10 reps
    • 52.5 kg x 10 reps
    • 52.5 kg x 10 reps
    • 52.5 kg x 10 reps

Press assistance sets were all fine, but I am reaching the point where I am in a state of almost constant shoulder fatigue (from these and the benching). The reps keep going up, but what a grind.

Felt almost too harsh even as a joke!

Well then you almost showed a remarkable bit of restraint =)

What does your current diet look like? Because from here it seems to be mostly pizza, beer and burgers which seems perfectly sustainable

Again. Is not the stance width that makes the sumo is in the hips opening

Yeah, I get that, but like with that video you linked, the wider stance helped to get my knees into position over my ankles.

I still open my hips a little in my squat sumo position, just not as much. But more than conventional. Will probably just have to stick with that for the sake of my knees and back.
