Weird, but impressive

I have an irrational dislike for the 25 kilo plates. I only use them when bar space is going to be an issue, like on the trap bar or for rack pulls. Put another way, 25kg plates are the front squats of inclines presses.

Nah! Everything that makes me move less. I’d actually really like to have some 40 or 50 kg plates. Would make yoke loading so much better.

Yeah, but you strongmen can’t be trusted when it comes to ordinary common sense. On the one hand, everything needs to be heavier. On the other hand, you don’t want to have to move all the plates. On the other other hand, you engage in a sport that has you moving heavy stuff from one place to another.

It’s like, pick a lane, strongmen.

Truer words have never been said.
I use a fucking hand truck to get the plates to my farmer’s handles/ yoke. And that’s a distance of maybe 7 meters at the very most, from the plate tree.
I realize that it’s the pinnacle of irony when I refuse to carry the plates there by hand … when the next thing I do is carry the loaded habdles… by hand. But I stand by it and frequently call my hand truck the mvp of my equipment.

LOL and it never occurred to you to move the plate tree closer or something? Or conversely, and stay with me here, move your stuff closer to the plate tree?

Not feasible because of the room layout. All of me bar and rsck stuff is in one corner and then the lane for carries is in the other one. Luxury spacing dilemma.

Or suck it up and do loaded carries as part of your loaded carry session?

I’ve never been to a gym with lbs on plates, just don’t exist (that I know of) over here. Cable machines etc. All have both marked.

I confess to being the owner of a pair of 25kg plates, a decision I regret to this day. They aren’t shiny or red though, I’m not a total pervert.

Exactly. Whenever I have to go put the plates back on the tree, I just think to myself ā€œyay moar gainzā€. Shoot, I even clean up after other people, just for that 1% extra pump. Sometimes while they are still using the equipment.

But yeah, I don’t know why we have a mix of kilo and pounds, but I daresay it has been like that at virtually every gym I have visited here (commercial types). I am a whiz at simple numbers calculations, so it doesn’t phase me.

One of my old gyms (the only non-shitty commercial gym, Chris Eubank Jnr used to train there) had a sign saying ā€œleaving your weight out doesn’t make you stronger, putting them away doesā€, which had certainly influenced me to always clear up after myself.

You guys aren’t fat enough to have a word in this. It’s all about saving those calories!

I actually have a funny Big Z story for this.
The story was told to me by Martina Ollesch, wife of Heinz Ollesch (German strongman legend). I can’t remember what event they traveled to but they were traveling with a bunch of strongman including the legend that is Z.
What struck Martina as odd about Zydrunas was that he appeared to be absolutely absent of movement during the whole flight. He would just sit there and stare right in front of him, not moving a muscle.
When another member of the travel group approached him and asked if he wanted a chocolate bar, he didn’t turn his head, he just moved his eyes to the side to fixate the candy bar and then grabbed it with a very sudden and lightning fast move of his arm, like a lizard catching a fly with his tongue.

The next day at the breakfast table his behaviout r didn’t change. Apart from eating, he sat perfectly still. Martina eventually was weirded out enough that she asked ā€œZydrunas, why don’t you ever move?ā€
He replied: ā€œHave to save calories.ā€

So that’s the secret to success gents, @strongmanvinny2, @T3hPwnisher, @strongmanbrett, @mattjp

Funny one lol I mean technically u save yourself the work/calories/fatigue but ur body recovers through movement keeps things circulating

He probably has an amazing response to your last post, but has calculated it would consume 1.3 calories to type it out.

Nah that calculation would have cost too many calories.

Even hamster brains consume at least 10% of a body’s energy

1 calorie to do the math, 1.3 calories to do the typing. That’s unhealthy when you gotta push press on the same day.

I make up for it cuteness.

How many calories do I gain if I consume a hamster brain?

Brain is 40-50kcal/ounce. Given how little hamsters use brains, as evidenced by @guineapig , it’s probably on the fattier side.
The average edible hamster weighs 4-5oz and probably has a small brain, so I’d imagine a hamster brain comes out to 1-2kcal raw :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
*i probably burned 2-3x that formulating and typing out this response
