Weird, but impressive

The obvious problem being that he does like 50 reps at 200 kilo. But actually, maybe this is exactly the kind deadlifting I should be doing instead of forcing myself to do conventional stuff when I don’t really want to. Something to think about, anyway. Today is my DL day, so I will probably start working my way into shape with the trap bar. I think my gym got a new bar, but I don’t know if I like the looks of it.

Bit late to the convo. What specifically is ur goal here? I’ll drop some GuineaPig wisdom on u

Well, probably not the usual goals. I am still kinda sitting on the fence and trying to figure out if and when to unleash Operation Phat Gainz. Also, short term is just getting used to shit again. Beyond that, for any lifting of dead things - whether sumo, conventional, trap bar, farmers, etc. - is mostly just to keep it a decent level and get some decent upper back work in. I have no numbers goals for those lifts. Too dangerous for me.

Anyway, went and did some work, as follows:

  • Sumo Deadlift

    • 60 kg x 5 reps
    • 80 kg x 5 reps
    • 110 kg x 3 reps
    • 130 kg x 3 reps
    • 160 kg x 3 reps
    • 180 kg x 1 reps
  • Trap Bar Deadlift

    • 75 kg x 5 reps
    • 115 kg x 5 reps
    • 135 kg x 5 reps
    • 165 kg x 3 reps
    • 165 kg x 1 reps
    • 135 kg x 1 reps
    • 115 kg x 1 reps
    • 75 kg x 1 reps
  • Farmer’s Walk

    • 20 m | 165 kg
    • 20 m | 135 kg
    • 20 m | 115 kg
    • 60 m | 75 kg
  • Ab Wheel (standing)

    • 5 reps
    • 1 reps
  • Muscle-Up

    • 1 reps
  • Pull-Up

    • 20 reps

So this was all fairly tough, but mostly because my grip isn’t quite where it should be, particularly my callouses. Shit just hurt, so I wanted to put it down before my grip actually became an issue. That said, I think this was the right approach. Also need to consider just using straps.

Never go full strongman.

Was the pretty girl in the rack again?

I know right. What I actually meant was that I should just use them on some of the top sets so that I don’t have an excuse to bitch out because it hurts.

Sadly no. Just did that one rep before the Pull-ups. But my hands were on fire at that point, so I stopped after 1.

Don’t worry, with sumo deads, you’re on a good path of not going thst way.

Still I don’t see a reason why you should avoid straps if you’re not planning to compete in powerlifting.

No goals no wisdom drop.

Was using figure 8 straps today for my conventional stance work. Felt the power of strongman flowing thru me. But I pull sumo

Even though those are the ultimate strongman cheating straps, they are banned from a lot of competitions and federations. In Germany we can’t use them for example.

Must be some good shit if it’s banned in strongman.

I grabbed size small so ROM-wise it is the same my hook grip pull and is very fast to set up. Feels like hook grip pulling also

One aspect is the cheat. The other is safety. Some nasty shit can happen in a car deadlift for example.

I guess this is exactly what I am considering. I think there is a value to doing it both ways.

Even if u is straps have plenty of utility

I have some good straps I have used for years, just haven’t been relying on them much at all lately. Will be watching how your experience goes with the figure 8s.

Figure 8s pretty good so far. Vs lasso straps is faster set up, nil slippage as the set goes by. More secure too. If sizing is right they won’t decrease ur ROM aka cheating. I already cheat enough. This way the positions mimic my hook grip pull. Don’t see any reason to use lasso style straps anymore.

Do some power cleans.

I don’t lel. Don’t see any reason to do them either

The explosive triple extension is good for training the suplex.

I prefer choke-slamming people, so please recommend an appropriate exercise.

BTW I bought some weak-ass pilsners to enjoy out in the sun today, and you were right. That hit the spot.

Glad I could help.

I think a front squat and press would help with the choke slam. You’d need a strong upper back since the weight of the human is way out in front of your center of gravity.
