Day I dunno.

You’ll all be pleased to know I have full use of my arse today.

Went for a run, the same loop. It’s actually about 2.15 miles, and I was a little faster today by virtue of my stupid Fitbit actually recording the whole distance for once. 8.43 average, which is still slow, but a pleasant enough pace that I don’t hate it at any point.

You might think you’re slow compared to people who care about running, but I think you have a pretty good pace for your purposes.

I guess I just think I am slow compared to myself and how fast I think I should be. I know what it feels like and what it takes to be much, much faster, so I always have that in the back in my mind. On the other hand, I also don’t want to go through the torture it takes to get significantly faster…because if I take a step back and remind myself what the whole point of this was in the first place, I don’t actually care. Slowish is fine, if it means I can stick with it without hating every second of it.

The Army has a new fitness test. I think the 2 mile run time for 70 pts (out of 100) is 18 minutes. You’re good.

Haven’t we been over this? I remember my 2 mile run like it was yesterday. Right around 11.50. That is what I compare myself to.

Jeez, for every day people a 9 minute pace for 2 miles is alright, but for the army that’s a pretty low standard. I thought I read 16 minutes was 70/100 on it.

I am sure there is an age scale. The target moves the older you get.

True- your crusty old self probably just has to survive.

Really, I just want to be able to outrun the slowest people and the zombies.

Yep. My nephew plans to enlist, so I looked into the new PT test and recommended him a PT routine, which he promptly ignored. The score for each “event”, including the two-mile run, is scaled to the individual’s age.

It’s a new test and finally one that doesn’t favor a 150 lb pip squeek who is good at running and body weight exercises.

It’s a series of events and you have to get 60% of the points to pass. It’s higher for different specialties. The run is also the last event. My buddy said he went all out on the sprint/drag/carry event and it made the 2 mile run awful.

Are you still training at home? When are gyms opening up?

Yup, still at home. Current message is that gyms will not open before May 5, but nothing is super clear. Been like 4 months now or something.

Mate I take my hat off to you. Maintaining that level of training and intensity with limited equipment at home is not easy. Good work mate.

Hah, intensity? Not so much. I feel like I am slacking everything. But I am at least doing something about 5 days a week.

I know I rag on you a lot, but I’ve always admired your attitude

Thanks, I appreciate it. And the ragging is all in good fun, so never worry about that =)
