This is gold mate. If you program sensibly and keep progressing slowly before you know it you are doing 30 reps In a session with a weight you struggled to do for 1. This is real progress and why I love putting myself through the discomfort of training each week.
True wisdom as expected from an old fart
Press Day today, and I kinda last minute decided to put it on the TM rep scheme, at least for a bit while I try to figure out what is next. I put the training max a little higher than what is suggested, but I figure my body has been getting used to these weights already so it should be okay for now. Probably a good choice in hindsight, but I had enough left to go the max 5 sets of 8 on the backoff sets. First one at 85 went up nice and quick, the joker one was a bit slow.

Had another off day yesterday. That is like 2 off days in a week, insane. Feel pretty good in general, but nerves and joints a bit fried today doing some bench. Did sorta the same as last week, so TM on both Incline and Decline, but this time in the reverse order…incline first. Probably a bad idea, works better the other way. No jokers, have been avoiding them all week.

The incline at 100 was harder than it shoulda been, kinda wasn’t in the groove. All the decline stuff felt poor, except the backoff sets for some reason, for which I did the max allowed.

I am trying to think up some clever response, but I am legit clueless as to what point you are making. I mean…they were presses?
They’re called presses. It’s like calling a squat a standing barbell leg squat (BBS)
I’m being picky because I have nothing of value to add to your training.
Semantics gains
I approve, if nothing else. OHP can mean any manner of pressing a bar overhead, but “the press” means something.
And it’s awesome.
Literally what happens here is that I have an app I use to track everything I do, and what you see there is what they call an ordinary “Press”. I am just copy/pasting it over as-is. Maybe next time I will overwrite the exercise names just for you.

I think so. To me, OHP is the general term for pressing over head, and probably includes the elusive military press*, probably the BtN press, probably pin presses and maybe even push presses, I dunno. A press is the one where you don’t put any leg drive, often called strict press just for extra clarity.
*which @boyce79 has come to define as a press that only comes down to about eye level, which works for me but no idea if it is right according to the textbook.
I agree. A press is the basic movement, all the others are variants in the same way you have front squats, SSB squats, Anderson squats etc.
I don’t have the textbook. I’ve always understood the military press to be a strict press with heels together, “standing to attention”.
For me OH press means no leg drive. Push press means means leg drive. Jerk means that prick who cut me off at the crossroads !!
What would make that different from strict press?
