Weightroom Idiots

Alright, I just got back from lifting and I had to get this out because I’m still quite stunned. I was just finishing up my workout today and doing some core work. I look into our pretty boy mirrors we have and notice some of the dumbest stuff I’ve ever seen in my life. These two guys (who looked the part of guys that had never lifted before in their life) were benching.

The guy getting ready to bench was first of all, laying backwards on the bench (had his head where your mid-back should be). He asks the other guy to spot him (when he’s trying to bench 85 pounds), and the guy says, “Hold on, let me get a belt”. As if this wasn’t pointless enough, he grabs a dip belt, puts it on and procedes to spot his buddy. I didn’t laugh because I was too stunned. I look around to see if anyone else is noticing this and see that the guys next to me are doing curls in the squat rack. I figure they don’t know any better either so I grab my stuff and call it a day.

Honestly, if anyone can beat that, there are dumber people out there than I thought. Please though, bring on your dumbest story.

Does stiff legged deadlifting with the smith machine count?

Ok I have one for you…
The guy next to me while I was squating was taking up the power cage to do arm curls. Ok that’s bad enough but he was also on his cell phone and then after doing a set would do look at himself in the mirror!

I once saw a complete noob using the standing calf machine to perform what looked like a machine hack squat.

The fact that he was so skinny that he couldnt even keep his socks up made it even funnier.

I’ve seen my friends use the leg curl machine for Tricep pushdowns and claim they were more effective than overhead tricep extensions.

Needless to say, I tried it jokingly to see how if I could feel it at all and I pushed the damn thing down so fast I landed on my ass.

I guess somebody posted something about me in a forum that day.

I knocked myself silly with a medicine ball doing ghrs. Tried bouncing the ball off of the floor and it bounced back and clobbered me in the face.
Idiotic but damn funny.

Put your squat rack curls stories here:

I’m actually a bit proud of this… I was super-setting between leg extensions and seated leg curls, got distracted between the two when someone asked me for a spot, and proceeded to forcibly extend the seated leg curl until I turned purple…all the while wondering why 70 lbs got so heavy so fast. Thank GOD no one was in the gym that late. It’s the little things that keep you humble. Yup, I’s a dumbass.

i am struggling to comprehend how you could have seen anyone push down on a leg curl machine, much less do it yourself. the leg curl machine curls upwards, what is it you would be pushing down on?

I was doing neck extensions with 135 lbs at the time and am proud to say that I can now use more. I had three plates attached to my Headstrap for Hercules. I was standing up and doing neck extensions with my hands on the straps of it to spot myself.

I was wearing a watch so a guy came over to me and asked me what time it was. I ignored him. He asked again. This was very hard work for me at the time and I gritted through my teeth “Not now!”

I don’t know how it went so well. I’m amazed that I didn’t kill him as I’m known to have a blackout rage problem…poor guy. He then turned his head upside down and got the time off of my anolog watch (it has ditagal functions as well. It’s an Adidas model.) and said thanks.

My gym watch is 8 years old and jammed with chalk plus it lived in my shed for a couple of years when I couldn’t find it so I cann’t adjust the time. God knows how far off that thing is. Bastard.

I would have told him if he waited one minute for me to finish.

The moral of the story is to never as someone what time it is when they have half of their bodyweight strapped to their head.

You gotta be fn’ kiddin’ me??? F’n idiot!

it amazes me how stupid people are…this stuff goes beyond inexperience and straight into stupidity

You probable should have offered them adice. Looks like the def. need it.

Whats such the big problem with using Squat racks, cages, what ever is available for curls. I always do straight bar curls for my last set of Bi’s. I try not to use the squat rack or cage, but if they are empty and everything else is being used… I have done the curls with the bar on the floor before (no biggie). I dont understand why everyone seems to hate straight bar curls? Not try to argue just curious.

I’ve spent plenty of time here…enjoy.

well, I’ve now spent half my morning looking at stuff there…not a bad site

I was 3 days out, doing pre-carb-loadig upper body depletion workout, carrying ~ 5% bf.
This pencil neck “supplement guru” comes to me and says: “You are lean, but not lean enough, like you would have been if you were on this new CLA product.”

I wanted to rip his head off.

My personal favorite is the tool who wears lifting gloves when they are using the restrict-fullmotion-machines. This kid this morning at the gym was wearing these gloves that were clearly for bike riding and doing tricep pushdowns on the machine.

And on top of that, this kid (who was the typical guitto and never lifts) would flex in the mirror inbetween every set for a solid 45 seconds. I just wanted to go up to him and say, listen kid, lifting is much easier if you man up and build calluses so you don’t look like a tool with your bike riding gloves

Everyone is talking about WHY???

I saw behind the back wrist curls in the squat rack yesterday. I chuckled.
