Weight Belts

How often should one use weight belts? Only during heavy sets of squats, deadlifts, or overhand rows? What about Good Mornings? Thank you.

I use mine 3 times a week!
For those who can’t tell this is my harness set up.

As for your question I don’t actually use a weight belt in the gym, but then again I’m not deadlifting 1000 pounds or anything close to that…yet

squats and deadlifts only for me.

I don’t use a weight belt at all, neither do my athletes.
Strengthen your abs, erector spinea, internal and external obloquies (your natural weight belt) to protect against injury.

I lost (on purpose) the belt about two years ago. I dropped weight and relearned how to squat and then learned how to deadlift. I have surpassed my old bests here in the last 6 months with obviously better form. I still love it when people tell me I should be wearing a belt to deadlift / squat / bar row … as they don a belt and straps to do their set of one-arm-reverse-preacher-hammer curls.

Can we start a rant discussion on dumbest things ever seen / heard / witnessed in the gym?

Absolutely, until you are lifting profoundly heavy weight, do not use the belt…It causes a lot more lower back injuries than it prevents, you will not learn how to tighten your core, and it will rob you of strength in the long run…once you squat and pull over 500 pounds, think about putting the belt on for your heavy lifts…

Best of luck

I powerlift raw and rarely use a belt…I’d only use it when trying to hit a squat PR… never use it to deadlift.
Train your core hard and build your own natural belt…

That depends on you. If you lift with occasionally lax form, excess weight, or jerky movements, a belt may stop you from hurting yourself.
