WEC Tonight

On the Versus Channel, for those who get it. If you haven’t caught of these “UFC Light” fight cards you are missing out. Frank Mir is an awesome commentator and they cut out all the UFC bullshit so it’s just fight after quality fight. Faber vs Curran is the main event, two of the best feathers in the world. Jens Pulver is also making his debut at 145, and you get a good look at one of the best grapplers on the planet in Pualo Filho.

I wish they’d get on a better network.

Time Warner doesn’t carry Versus in my area and it’s a rarity to find a WEC torrent. I’m usually stuck scrounging around on Youtube and Dailymotion for individual fight clips.

I’m looking forward to it.

I like WEC - especially the lighter weight classes.

Pulver needs to win, but I can’t stand him.

Faber might be the best pound for pound in MMA.

I have my DVR set for that tonight. I never used to be huge into watching MMA, but last saturday I was sick so I didn’t work. I rolled out of bed and turned on the TV only to find the entire season of TUF on all day. I became a huge fan of MMA that day.

If you liked watching TUF wait until you see some of the higher caliber fighters go at it. That will really get you hooked.

I didn’t even realize there was a big WEC event today until I was flipping through the TV channels last night. Really looking forward to it now though, should be good.

Filho is an animal. He’s undefeated with a KO on Joe Doerksen and submissions against Ryo Chonan and Yuki Kondo, I’ll be looking forward to seeing another one of his WEC fights.

NO shit, he's a bad ass.

I’m stoked, I just found that I DO indeed have the channel on high def no less. And to boot, finals are done and no school for 5 weeks or so. YEAH!

This should be nice, and I'm looking forward to seeing how pulver does at this weight too.

Any predictions before we blast off guys?

I’ll take Faber by decision. Should be a good fight, but not so sure this style match up means for a real thriller. I think Faber will be able to get and keep top control long enough to take the majority of rounds.

Chael Sonnen is a much improved fighter, durable and lots of experience. Unfortunately, Filho is a stud. He looked shaky at first in his first time in the cage, and by shaky I mean he still cold clocked the guy in the first round. I’ll take Filho by arm snap in the second.

Cub Swanson is a great underdog, and a good bet. I’m going to take him for the upset and clocking the definitively chinny Pulver out early.

Guess when your Org. doesn’t have many big names, You will pull bullshit stops out of your ass like that too.

The stop on Sonnen was questionable. I couldn’t tell if he was screaming “NO, NO” as in I’m not going to tap or just screaming “OH SHIT” because his arm was breaking. Destined to be debated for the next 6 years.

And Jens Pulver put it on Swanson. Not a punch thrown, sick looking choke. In only 35 seconds.

Whatever. When your arm is bent past 90 degrees, your face is contorted in pain, and you are screaming, what is the ref supposed to do. Chael Sonnen should get on his knees and thank that ref. Now he will be back in the ring getting a pay check in two months, instead of about a year getting his snapped arm rehabbed.

He had 5 seconds left, He was saying No. The matter of the fact is its his choice when to tap. He wanted to try and wait those 5 seconds and its his choice.

No, it’s the referees choice to stop the fight whenever the fuck he feels that a fighters health is in danger, which he did.

If it was half way through the round I would agree. but with 5 seconds left its a fucking bad call.

It was also probably a bad idea to take a guy down when you almost got your arm snapped off in the first round and were tooling him on the feet. Filho looked total crap.

Another great win for Faber.

Agree on Filho looking bad. Sonnen was doing well on his feet, got too ambitious or stupid, one of the two.

Faber whopped Big Frogs ass.

So when will we see Faber vs Pulver? Jens need one more solid win under his belt first?

Jens is pretty old. Who else is there at 145 for Faber to fight? He’s a big name, might as well use him now.
